Looks real good! What size....? tall . Any idea on a price comparison of the 4"x6" or 6"x6" treated posts vs the 2"x6" laminated post that are being used in the first picture? Thanks

I stopped by the building site at lunch time today. Despite rain over the weekend the crew was working today. They got the door headers and most of the purlins installed by lunch time.

This is the West side of the North end.

This is the West side of the South end.

The North end is 56 X 48 with 16 ft side walls. The South end is 48 X 48 with 12 ft side walls.

The building is 48 ft X 104 ft. There is a 48 X 48 shop section that has 12 ft side walls and one 10 ft high x 12 ft wide overhead door. The 48 X 56 section has 16 ft side walls and three 14 x 14 overhead doors.

The poles are 2 X 6 triple laminated with staggered finger joints. The portion buried in the ground is treated. I did not get a price comparison. I think the reason they use laminated poles is to avoid the twisting and bowing problem they would have with solid treated lumber.

The sheeting has been applied to the roof. That is good news as we are expecting rain and snow the next few days. If it is raining they will work on tinning the interior ceilings tomorrow. Here are a couple of photos:

A few more pictures taken this morning. And yes that is snow on the ground. We had just over 6" yesterday. They worked inside putting the tin on the ceilings. It is one big muddy mess.

Awesome! Hopefully our weather holds out a bit longer. Who's building it?

The pole building is being errected by Foltz out of Detroit Lakes, MN.

I will hire the concrete work, heating and most of the electrical.

I spent the day putting perimeter slab insulation around the shop end of the building. Friday or Saturday I will start the other end. The building site is very muddy so I spent most of the day Saturday dewatering the site.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate this week.

The outside has been tinned. Waiting for overhead doors

The interior of the North end still needs lots of fill. I hope to get some of that done Friday and Saturday.

I took the afternoon off from work and headed to the shed to get started on the kick boards and perimeter slab insulation on the North side of the shed. They could not get concrete delivered today so the concrete crew prepared the South half of the apron.
SouthEnd.jpg

The North portion of the apron will be left open for a few more days while additional fill is placed insde the building.

Seems I have a pile of trash to get moved before adding for fill.

how does the concrete finish up at the bottom of the walls
On the inside there is a green treated 2 x 6 laying flat between the poles and on the exterior there is a vertical 2 x 6 attached to the outside of the poles. The top of the vertical 2 x 6 is approximately flush with the top of the flat 2 x 6. The concrete will be poured to the bottom of the flat 2 x 6. This 2 x 6 will also serve as the bottom nailer for the inside wall panels. I added extra vertical kickers below the vertical 2 x 6 that was installed on the exterior of the poles. 2" foam insulation is installed on the inside of the kicker boards between the poles. The reason for the extra boards is to hold the 2" foam in place while adding fill.

The South 2/3's of the apron was poured today. We had good weather. The concrete pumper was not available so they poured the outside first. The shop portion of the inside should get done Monday. They did get 2 overhead doors done today and most of the hardware for third door in the North end.

The concrete crew got started adding and compacting fill on the North end. This section should get poured Wed or Thurs. Then they will move outside for some additonal work (weahter permitting)

The 2" floor insulation has been installed and the heat tubing has been installed against the South wall of the North section.

The rebar is almost completed. And the floor drains have been installed.

Concrete will be poured in this section Friday morning. That will leave about 40 ft of apron in front of the building and somemore driveway if the weather holds.

Where do the floors drains drain to - just where they sit, or is there an unseen piping system?

The bottom of the floor drains are about a foot deep. The 3" pipe is well below the insulation and concrete. The shop drain exits to daylight on the East side of the building. The North end has three floor drains that are tied together with one exit pipe also out the East side. The plan is to install one or two dry well pits on the East side of the building. I am also doing some landscaping around the perimeter of the building to direct the runoff in the proper direction. However, it has been too wet and muddy to get much done.

It rained Friday morning so the concrete crew did not do the last apron. There are no gutters, so any water coming off the roof would land on the newly poured concrete. The weather this week looks good. They should get this last apron poured on Monday, then they are going to start working on a short section of the driveway. It is still very muddy, so I did not get very much of the lanscaping done. Just got the South wall backfilled.

I stopped out at the shed at noon today. They have poured the final apron section and started tearing out some of the gravel driveway. We are expecting a few more days of high temps in the mid 40's so I gave the concrete crew the go ahead to pour about 40 ft more driveway. That will still leave at least 100 ft of gravel and a project for another year.

The weather cooperated today and we got somemore driveway poured.
Nov17001Medium.jpg

Lows will be in the 20's tonight, so they plan on covering the new concreted with insullated blankets.
Nov17004.jpg

About the only thing finished on the inside this week was the last overhead door.
