Last weekend I spent most of my time doing exterior landscaping. I cut a drainage trench around the South and East side of the building. Since we got more rain and now some snow I think I am done with that project until next summer. The electrican did arrive on Monday, so now we have lights.

The building contractor came back to the job site and finished insulation and sheeting the interior walls of the South section. The common wall between the North and South sections will have pine boards. They should go in next week.

Hhmm...metal ceiling...inside meter...unique.
The meter in the photo is the "Off Peak" meter. The in-floor heat uses an electric boiler. The local rural electric uses a subtractive system. All incoming power is fed thru the main meter which is located on a pedestal next to the pole out at the road. On our other building the utility set a new pole near the building and we ran 3 short length 200 amp services into the building. One service was the main power and the other 2 were for the off peak heating. Both meters are located outside on the pole. Under there new rules they will not set another pole next to the new building. They want you to run your own wire from there existing poles. However, they did permit the off peak meter being located inside the building, which saves running the extra wires in from the pole. In this case the run is over 200 ft.

The manifold for the in-floor heat was finished. The boiler is hung and waiting for the electrican to get it wired. I hope that gets done early this week, as it in getting colder inside. The lakes all froze in the last week with low temps down to the single digits and highs in the teens.

Not much progress this week. The insulation and metal sheeting on the cold storage side was completed. It has been very cold for the last week, even got a little snow today. I did get a new toy.

It's been a couple weeks since my last update. The heat is on in the shop and we have started framing the bathroom and a small enclosed work space. Both of these rooms are on the cold storage side of the building, but accessed from the shop. There will be a mezzanine storage area above these two rooms.

This trailer is parked in the shop with some building materials for the wall.

The door on the right will be the bathroom entrance. The "Cold Storage" side can be seen thru the stud wall.

The "Cold Storage" side was quite comfortable because the doorways were cut in, but the doors not installed allowing the shop heat to warm the "Cold Storage" side of the building which is fully insulated. The dump trailer was on that side of the building getting some repair work done on it.

We made a little more progress this week. The dividing wall between the shop and the cold storage side is being covered with prefinished tongue and groove pine.

The door between the shop and the cold storage side has been installed.

On the cold storage side the mezzanine has been built and the railing installed. This week we should get the rest of the walls covered with metal.

The stairway to the mezzanine was finished.

I picked up a couple of 8 ft oak butcher block counter tops for Ikea and did a trial installation. Then it was time for a snowmobile ride, so that is all I got done.

The shed is a long ways from being finished. I spent very little time working there in the past 6 months. Here are a few photos I took today:

There is lots of snow. The new shed is on the right. The one we built 6 years ago is on the left

The cold storage side in almost finished just need to add some more shelving.

I have gotten a good start on installing some Gladiator benches & cabinets, but still have quite a few still in cartons.

One side of this shop is used by my son-in law for his fishing gear.

There are 2 small rooms between the 2 sections. I am working on finishing the larger room this winter, but I have not made a lot of progress. I hope to get the rest of the Gladiator cabinets installed this winter and errect some shelving. I will post more pictures as I get closer to being finished. But I am not in any hurry since I am still working full time and would rather "play" on weekends when the weather is nice.

Is there anything between the concrete and the boards running along the bottom? The concrete goes under the flat 2x6's? Wouldn't this heave up from frost? I'm new at this and trying to figure this stuff out.

What a nice place you have there. Please keep the pictures coming. I am sure that it will take sometime to Finnish everything you are wanting to do. I am starting a shop that is a 62X48 the poles are up but we can't pour concrete till this darn rain stops. I will start putting pictures up and start a thread when I figure out how to do it. my shop will be board and batten with a metal roof. It will have 6 inch thick concrete floors, as I plan to put in an auto lift. Keep the pictures coming as this is where I get my ideas.
Thanks!!
