So question for you guys, what’s supposed to go under the auger and drive belt levers to keep them at the appropriate height?

I guess I don't understand the question. The springs return the idler pulleys away from the belt so the drive doesn't spin. When you squeeze the hand levers the idler pulley puts tension on the belt to run the drive.

I think the lack of an air filter is due to the fact that winter air is pretty clean
no dust
