I bought some screws at Lowe's for fixing some gutter that's hanging down. Had to buy new bits as I've never seen this type. Maybe proprietary?

I’d return them.

They (FastenMaster) are phasing out Spiderdrive since about April of this year, and replacing it with Torx ttap. And Torx ttap can be driven with regular Torx bits. Wouldn‘t recommend going with Spiderdrive for a single application, that’s going to be a pain every time in future and basically already obsolete now anyway. Would be different for someone already using them, but starting with those now, no way.

Kind regards,
Olli

SpiderDrive is proprietary to FastenMaster. The bits you pictured don’t hold up well to impact use. The screws are harder than the bits and the splines will strip off. I have trashed dozens of those bits in short order. I recommend a drill for installing. And Milwaukee offers a much higher quality HeadLok bit. A #3 phillips works surprisingly well too. Keep that in mind if you ever need to remove them and don’t have the special bit.
Those screws don’t have much thread engagement. They hold fine unless they are torqued down too much and will strip out.

When I think of screws I think of GRK.
Doesn't really matter what you think of if they don't have the thing you want, does it?

I’d return them.

Thanks for that info. I think I'm returning them.

It looks like Menards has a screw that will work and uses torx heads.

They do look fragile. I had planned to drill pilot holes so there wouldn't be much torque applied.

I ran several dozen 12” screws in with an impact using those bits. Worked fine, none of them cammed out.

Can’t say I like finding Yet Another GD Screw Head Design.
Wasn't really pleased to find that was the only screw on the shelves that looked like it would work the way I want them to.

Buy a bunch of extra bits for the future.

I have one of these BS bits after helping a buddy with a deck / addition a few summers back (top of the bit holder, right side) because we used a ton of headlok hardware:
