Well officially disappointed in my first HJE order! I got an e-mail yesterday (6/14) saying my ratchet shipped. But as of 4PM today (6/15) the tracking status says that USPS is still waiting for the item to be dropped off at the post office.

I was hoping to be able to tryout the ratchet this weekend changing my Radiator, but I doubt that's going to happen now. Hopefully it's just USPS's tracking system being weird, and it was actually shipped on the 14th. Otherwise what's the point of offering 2-day shipping if you're just going to sit on the item until the end of week? Going on that further, why say the item has "shipped" when it hasn't?
The tracking from USPS is horrible. I couldn't tell you how many times I've ordered stuff that has been delivered before any updates from their system.

Once had an item updated to deliver almost 2 weeks after it was in my possession.....not sure how that happened, but I got it so I didn't care too much what the tracking said at that point.

I ordered the SK from Harry J's Tuesday afternoon, it was picked up yesterday and is within 20 mile of my home. To be delivered tomorrow. I order USPS priority and the tracking is very good. Much cheaper and faster than UPS most of the time. We have a really great group of mail carriers in my town.

I generally only buy from E-Bay, NewEgg and Amazon, and the item is almost always out the door the same day or next day at the latest. I have no problem if a place takes a few days to get an item to the shipper, but it irks me when the seller says the item has shipped, but it actually hasn't.

I know from selling on eBay, that sellers don't have control over that. As soon as I print the label, it marks the item as shipped, even if I print it on the Saturday night of a holiday weekend. I do have to enter the day I plan on dropping it at the post office, but for some reason that is not shown to the buyer.

Well the tracking finally updated, and said the item wasn't received until ~6PM tonight. Looks like it did indeed take them over two days to ship it out. USPS says estimated Saturday delivery, so fingers crossed I still get it for this weekend.

I ordered mine Tuesday night at 10:00pm. It was shipped USPS the next day (Wednesday) and is scheduled to be at my house in NC tomorrow (Friday)... Can't wait to try out this new ratchet.

Another smooth transaction from HJ Epstein; thank you!

USPS just dropped it in my mailbox. It feels like good old American quality. Well oiled from the factory. Chrome is very well done. The selector is stiff but switches easily by turning the drive a bit. The back drag and ratchet feel like any brand new ratchet- sharp and precise. When it wears in it will be a very good smooth ratchet. It is already my favorite. Hopefully the 1/4 and 1/2 drives will be out soon.

I noticed the dual 80s you can hold the selector... on the sk it will free wheel as you ratchet... not a big deal but not good either, dual 80 does nothing so you can hold the selector hard left or right as you ratchet...

Mine got arrived today, buttery smooth. Great feel to also. I am a fan of the SK knurled handle, but I really like the feel of this too.

Why do you need to hold the selector as you ratchet?

Opened the ratchet and got you some photo's. Put some mobil 1 5w30 ep in it and ran it around a dozen times. Now smooth as silk. I have not held a dual 80 so I can't compare. It is much smoother than the 120 gearwrench ratchets I have.

Big pawl with lots of teeth for engagement!

I don't expect this to be an issue, just deporting smart found, my bad....
I was just curious to why you hold the lever while ratcheting. I just couldn't figure out a reason why that'd be done. That's all.

Seems to be the standard reaction to a crappy ratchet that won't stay in gear, maybe a worn Craftsman or Pittsburgh Pro? Just making an observation.

Thank you for doing this.

I'm surprised to see it's a single-pawl design like we see in several other brands. For some reason, I thought it would be something unique. I don't know why I thought that.

Anyway, we know this type of design can be very strong. Hopefully it won't have the issue with locking up that we sometimes hear about in the Apex Tools
version of this design.

This design should be fine. Im convinced the Danaher era design problems are largely due to the dinky pintle/pivot they use. The SK design very closely resembles a Nepros 90 and I've never had an issue with any of their ratchets getting jammed or self reversing.

Sorry it took so long to get those photo's up. It's been a busy day. I have not felt any sign of a lockup on the ratchet. With the gearwrench 120's I could feel a problem right away so I think this SK is going to be a winner. As soon as the 1/4 and 1/2" drive versions come out I'm going to order them. Time will tell. The members of this forum will find any flaws for sure.

How does the handle feel? Nobody has commented on that yet other than a few guys complaining about the absence of knurling. It looks to me like it would be real comfortable; no machined grooves to cut into your hand.

That is really an individual thing. I have large hands and it feels comfortable to me. As I get older I am more sensitive to sharp edges and protrusions. This ratchet has none of those problems. I imagine a smaller hand would find it comfortable too. For me this is a great tool.
