Is tooltopia good for SK tools? I bought some socket sets from amazon and I think they are old stock. I did not realize they were coming from a third party seller. Amazon seems to be getting pretty bad for this. The socket cases were just wrapped in plastic and sockets don't look the greatest. I want to make sure I'm getting new production SK and not buy from a place where the tools have been sitting around for years. Thanks

Tooltopia and Harry Epstein is where I get most of my SK.

well, SK has not made the roto ratchet since bankruptcy around 2010ish and recently over 20 NOS roto ratchets showed up on Amazon. They sold like hotcakes once garage journal got wind of it! The roto ratchet was patented by SK and many are clamoring for the new owners of SK to start producing them again.

Can you tell its new stock?

Everything I've bought through the two is brand new current stock. My boss has a ton of older SK (as well as some old stock I've grabbed on eBay). I've had a bit of a wait for some individual sockets through Epstein, but that was because they were waiting for SK to ship the stock to them. About as fresh as it gets...:D

Thanks. I'll have to place an order. Tooltopia seems a little cheaper for sockets and Epstein's better for a few other things. I won't be ordering from amazon again. Tooltopia is new ideal sk stock right? I figure if I'm going to spend good money I want it to be brand new

You can tell the difference between old and new Stock by the type of rail it comes on (any plastic rail is definitely pre Ideal, but some post Facom years did use metal rails too). The stickers are also unique to the current ideal SK. No good way to describe them. The way the sockets are broached is another, but hard to explain the difference between the two.

Tooltopia has always given me new stock, but check out HJE. We are having SK day at the end of October and you should join!

You shouldn't have to worry about old stock from any legitimate online store.

I have browsed GJ for years, but this is my first post. Hello everyone!

I know this thread is a few months old, but thought I'd help anyone out that is looking for individual SK impact sockets. I have the complete set of 1/2 inch drive Craftsman deep impact sockets, both metric and standard, but the set does not have very many sizes, (example, there is no 20mm), so last weekend I went through my impacts, and the SK catalog, and ordered every individual socket that SK made, of sizes that I did not already have, to complete my set. I ordered them from Tooltopia.com, now to their credit, the shipment arrived pretty quickly, especially considering that Monday was President's Day. BUT.... about 2/3 of the sockets that arrived were old stock from the pre Ideal days, completely different packaging, a completely different design, some of them missing the size markings, most were rusty. I emailed Tooltopia, but no response as of yet. I'm sure they will make it right, so I am in no way bashing Tooltopia, just want to give a heads up, if anyone is looking at similar 1/2 inch drive individual impacts, you may want to keep this in mind. I wouldn't have minded getting old pre Ideal stuff that was rusty, if I would have known what I was getting, and saved considerably on it, but it's a bit frustrating when I pay new prices. Also, a side note, does anyone know if Wright makes SK's impact sockets? Or vice versa? One of the sockets was a Wright socket, of the correct size, but in an SK bag. Nice looking socket (I have no Wright stuff) just curious how this happened. Hope this helps someone, and thanks to you all for years of excellent tool reviews and advice!

SK makes their own sockets.
Thank you ChevyEFI, curiosity killed the kitty cat :) The Wright socket looks identical to the current SK impacts, except for the Wright having tiny ribs around the outside of the socket, while the current Sk's are pretty much smooth. I was just curious but thank you for letting me know.

Buying a 20mm impact socket just to complete a set may make you happy but, I doubt if you will ever use it:wtf:

I understand the urge to fill an empty peg or have sizes run consecutively without skipping but, if there isn't a use for it why? I am familiar with the concept of it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it but, if it's only going to take up space and gather dust...:dunno:

enjoy your new sockets and welcome to the journal:beer:

Thank you Fedwrench :) Just hoping to help someone out so they don't end up with "new" junk looking tools like I did.
