Figures. I just ordered an FLLF80 last week and haven’t even got it yet!

I disagree with the criticism above. The Dual 80 has had a long run already. It was about time for an update, if progress was possible. And it seems it was. There is plenty to like here, at least on paper:
  • head is a bit smaller in width: 1-7/32″ (F100) versus 1-1/4″ (F80)
  • head has less height too: 15/32″ (F100) versus 9/16″ (F80)
  • 20% higher tooth count (granted, there wasn’t much to complain about with 80 teeth)
  • 10 versus the old 7 teeth in contact, suggesting the new mechanism should be at least as strong despite more teeth
  • only a very small price increase.
There’s nothing on the website about back-drag, but you’d hope Snap-on has done its homework there too.
Small price increase?

I bought a flex head dual 80 when they were fairly new around 2007 and it was $80 (which was crazy $$ for a ratchet). That's $123 today... they're asking another $50

It's the same thing as when ordering cans of spray paint. You gotta phone in your order and have a credit card number ready.
I have a good relationship with the local SO guy. I shoot him an email with what I want he gives me a price and meet him at one of his stops and pick up what I need. He's good to deal with.

They used to be only be $0.99 a piece. Sure is a cheap price for a piece of super high quality spring steel.

The SPP837 is only $9.30 and useful if you ever get a late model Snap-on box.

Yea that $0.99 tool fetches about $15 on Ebay, shipped free. I made one.

At my age a SO toolbox is not in the cards, but for someone else that tool would be useful for sure.

About 30 years ago, I ordered 10 of those ratchet ball tools. I felt funny ordering just one at $0.99 since Snap-on paid the shipping.

At the current Ebay prices for them, including shipping, ~$15, that would have been one hell of an investment for someone.

Good to know. I'll hit my dealer up for the repair kit. The spring tool is a must have? That I know for a fact he doesn't have.
I used to just use a pocket pry bar or a flat screwdriver. The tool is better to use. My driver ordered one for me and just gave it to me. He was surprised I wanted it, but I also have some other ratchets that use a similar ball on spring and the tool totally makes it easier to assemble.

I hope to have the repair kits by next week, and to put this freewheeling issue behind me. I crushed a piece of solid copper wire that has worked in the past holding the ball in place in other ratchets. I'm pretty sure it will work for these.

A dude on YouTube did the same thing with some electrical wire. It worked fine so I think you’ll be good. I’m surprised at how many drivers are so stingy with stuff, especially repair stuff. My driver would rather I do the repairs so he can focus on other stuff like selling me tools. 😂

I hear ya, my guy has been good. I didn't press the issue on the tool. I read somewhere that they're called "restricted tools," whatever that means. They market field repair kits, you'd think they'd be selling the tool to make field repairs easier.

I bought an F80 a while back...from snap on truck (had to have it that day to finish a job). Of course a while later it started to slip. Gave it to the snap on guy and he said he'd rebuild it but had to order the part. I said fine, bring it back when you're done. Still havent' seen it, been a few years too. I called him, left messages, texted, called snap-on directly, called his boss, nothing. I mean I get answers but still no ratchet. At this point I'm calling it a loss of about $110, but at the same time I didn't' forget, when it comes time to buy another tool it won't be from that jack wagon.

My guy is Top Notch but generally I like going through my ratchets, cleaning them out Etc. I am also doing some modifications making the 3/8 to quarter conversions etc. so he just gave me one of those tools.

What? You haven't gotten in his truck and asked for a replacement?

I found out today the repair kits are on backorder with an ETA of 6/15. I'm usually not an early adopter of anything, I went against my better judgement buying too soon. Lesson learned.

How do you know you're getting a revised version? Snap-on should stamp it with a revision letter like F100A or F100B.

I really don't care though. They'll be plenty of new old stock 80 tooths on eBay for me.

Easily enough, and it doesn't require opening it up to look. The direction lever was changed, and to double check it doesn't freewheel if pressure is applied to the direction lever.

+1 Dropping the Dual 80 would be a mistake imo. My guy said the 100 tooth ratchets aren't selling well.

The Dual80 is great, people are resistant to change, and the early 100 tooth ratchets were problematic. It will take a while, even after they shake out the issues, for people to come around.

They, probably, won’t stop making the Dual80 until after the 100 is pretty universally considered better than the 80.

I've noticed that FLF100 are going for the same price if not less than FLF80s - tempting
Yeah, I see that the prices are relatively close between the 80t and 100t. I need a new locking flex head and was thinking about the FLX80B, but I'm wondering if there is a point in buying dual 80s with the Cynergy line rolling out now. If a locking flex 3/8 100t comes out soon for the same price, I would feel compelled to buy the 100t, I think. I love all my dual 80's, though.

Any opinions on whether it is worth it to purchase dual 80 ratchets now, if they are being discontinued relatively soon?

I won't come around. The dual80 with the old style hard handle is ratchet perfection to me.

I played with a 100t on the truck, ironically while buying a new dual80 hard handle. I liked the feel of the dual80 more.

And it doesn't look like the 100t will ever have the old style hard handle, and those are all I'll use.

I'm really surprised they haven't made a greater variety of the Cynergy ratchets. The smaller head is the biggest improvement in my opinion - while the higher tooth count and reduced swing arc are nice, the form factor is what would drive me to purchase one.

There should be a bunch more announced at the SFC in August.

I messaged SO, and they said they are gradually phasing out the dual 80s.
Interesting, my guy said that he was told that they will always be at least several models available of The Dual 80. They may be branded as Williams, but they should still be available for decades to come. The 36 tooth Snap on mechanism from at least 40 years ago is still available as Williams, so I would expect them to do that if they are not available branded as Snap-on.

Oh so now I'll be able to buy them maybe as William's branded cuz you can't right now...

Very interesting. Will see.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out. The person I was messaging with said that they are gradually phasing them out, but didn't know a specific date when they will be discontinued.
I need a locking flex, so I was wondering if I should grab a dual 80 model now or pick up a mid-level LFH and wait for the 100T version to come out.

If that's the case and the dual 80 will be rebranded as Williams, then not sure if there is any point dropping the loot on a SO dual 80 now.
