Interesting, my guy said that he was told that they will always be at least several models available of The Dual 80. They may be branded as Williams, but they should still be available for decades to come. The 36 tooth Snap on mechanism from at least 40 years ago is still available as Williams, so I would expect them to do that if they are not available branded as Snap-on.
Hmmm. Bahco has dual 80.

I’ve had good luck with the 100 tooth so far but definitely like the feel of the Dual 80 better. Give me the square hard handle any day over the hard handle on the 100 tooth ratchet it’s not great.
Really (on the handle)?

On my tiny phone screen they look very similar. I need to look on my desktop and put the images side by side

I looked at the

3/8" Drive Cynergy™ Ratchet
Item no :F100

And

3/8" Drive Dual 80® Technology Standard Handle Ratchet
Item no :F80

Is it related the length or girth or what?

I have to admit that I like the Proto 90 tooth handles. They do look vaguely similar to the snap-on but then they have some nice knurling.

The hard handle on the Dual 80 is like a hard plastic squared handle. The hard handle on the 100 tooth is basically the soft style handle but just a harder plastic.

Ohhjhj you mean the fh100, not the f100....

And you know, I think someone, probably you, said something that made me realize that earlier and then my brain just melted this evening....

Hard handle does not mean the metal handle. Every part of my brain says that's wrong. I usually think of that as comfort grip

Clearly I'm losing my mind. Thank you so much for clarifying that. I went back and took a look and went oh hard handle ugh

No worries. I really hope they don’t get rid of the squared hard handles on the Dual 80. I was talking to a member here and he said he heard they had been discontinued but I really hope they haven’t because I’m not big on those soft handles. The metal handle is ok but my favorite is the hard handle.

My truck dealer said the supplier for Snap-On hard handles shut down their factory and hard handles are gone now. It's only NOS inventory now.

Yeah my dealer also confirmed with me that hard handles, the old school ones, are heading out the door for ratchets. I don’t know if that also will affect screwdrivers or not or if it’s just Snappy going full send with the new ratchet handles.

That explains why the hard handle dual 80s are stupid money on eBay. At that price, I'll just get an flf100 or sf80 for the price of one hard handle...

I doubt that Williams will be selling dual 80s. But I'd love to be wrong. Well, if they do, they'll most likely be at a similar price level to the SO 100T models to not steal market from SO; so, they won't be a deal at all. Kinda like how the Proto 90T ratchets can cost more than the same Mac model, which is insane.

I also don't buy that SO discontinued the old-style hard handles because of a vendor issue like bankruptcy, or whatever. Typically, SO would own the tooling to make the handles, even if it was done at an outside vendor, so they could just transfer that tooling to another vendor; this is the norm, and it allows the customer to not be held hostage for exactly this issue, or if a vendor cannot meet delivery quantities that were agreed upon in their contract because they're incompetent. It's possible that the tooling is worn out, and/or that the majority of their recent sales are for the newer style of soft/hard handles and they decided to just focus on that design. Regardless of the GJ opinion, or whatever justification, the reality is that most of the current screwdriver market offerings are no longer the hard plastic style, and I'd expect ratchets to be the same.

People shouldn't worry about hard handles now of days, if you have a 3d printer you can print them easy. Also multiple vendors have original and new stock to replace them.

I think when my driver comes next week if it’s still available I’m going to pick up the 1/4 drive flex head square hard handle from him in red. It’s his last one. Disappointing to hear them being discontinued. Glad I already have most every ratchet I need. Every good thing always ends lol.

I really cant see SO ditching the coloured hard handles TBH, theyre a cash cow for them. SO certainly has the ability to take the injection molding in house if its the result of a supplier closing as well. This seems poorly thought out IMHO, if I ever see my driver again, Ill be sure to ask.

They’ve been pushing the new ratchets pretty hard and I’ve currently got 3 of them. I’ve been using them for most stuff lately and with a lot of use they break in nicely. I won’t be getting rid of my 80s for them, but the slimmer heads have come in handy a few times and as long as they work they’ve got a place in my boxes.

I was kind of surprised too but my driver seems to know his stuff pretty well. I didn’t hear him say anything about a company going bankrupt or something similar, just that Snap-on was discontinuing the old hard handle to focus on the new hard handle you see on the Cynergy ratchets. He hasn’t had any old hard handles on the truck besides a few 1/4” that have been lingering around. He was adamant about the Dual80s being phased out for 3/8” too as Snap-on is pushing the Cynergy ratchets. He said it wasn’t going to be overnight but it’s happening and certain styles of Dual80 3/8” ratchets are already non-orderable.

This is all ratchet stuff, I have no clue about screwdrivers or picks. My assumption is that it’s only going to apply to ratchets unless Snappy has decided to go all in on Instinct-styled stuff.

I’ve noticed a lot of new colors of the instinct handles coming out. Hopefully they keep hard handles too. My driver swears they aren’t discontinued but everything online and what I’m reading here points to them being discontinued for ratchets at least.

Could be a regional thing that’s going through beta testing? See how it works in one market and then go from there?

If you look on SO's website, there are only a couple of hard handle Dual 80 ratchets available. So, I think the old style hard handles are going away on ratchets.

The new style hard handles don’t have that classic look, but they do fit my bigger hands better.

Those new ones ****, also didn't like the instinct handle. The soft one get stickier once they get soak in oil.

I printed up a hard handle in the correct size to fit, they have a long shaft so regular snap-on handles won't fit. Didn't know that's so it was super annoying when I bought a bunch of ebay.

I prefer the dual 80 over the 100, but it think they can refine the 100 for the future. The dual 80 is pretty much already done.

Haven’t had any issues with mine being sticky. The old style 3/8 hard handles are pretty small in my hands so I like the newer ones, but the older ones do look better. Since the newer ones have a little more texture they’re not as slick when covered in oil and grease.

Humidity, I live in a really humid climate(65% or more). My soft rubber handles all get sticky. Luckily I can replace them easy, also I can add texture to the print to make them grip. Thanks you just gave me and idea for my next print.

My dealer had to trade with some other dealer friends of his to get two of my recent hard handle purchases. I was limited to what colors they had on their trucks, because those particular ratchets can no longer be ordered.

SO tried discontinuing hard handle ratchets years ago when the fat rubber handles were "all the rage". I bought one of those and absolutely hate it. I never use it. People got vocal and the hard handles came back in more colors than ever before. They sold a boatload of them and are now repeating the cycle.

I don't like the new handles, so my ratchet buying days are over. I've got a dozen or more hard handle dual80 ratchets, so I'll live.

That is very cool. Did you design the print yourself or is it a model that's freely available somewhere? Were you able to find a print media that's comparable to the OE injection molded parts?

It's a remix of a already available file, no need to waste time designing one from scratch. Multiple accurate files available for various people, can even have the snap-on logo.

Filament used is PETG as its heat resistant, and oil/fuel resistant. Nothing is really comparable to injection molded parts. The material most use is ABS or some sort of ABS. I can print them with ABS or ASA. Quality just depends on the settings you use to print.

So far my printed handles have been durable, but they aren't as strong as injected molded parts. They don't need to be as these are consumable and easy to replace.

Mm 🤔 I lived in Texas, never experienced up 90% humidity. I'm not sure the difference is climate here from the US. But the hot humidity here *****, my house doesn't have AC or built in any real insulated way 😂. I have to use multiple dehumidifier because we get 90%+ constantly.

It's cool how many options we have now for handles. Snap-on needs to follow suit and give us more 100t options.

Also to add, my Snap-On guy said they were phasing out dual 80s. He didn’t even keep any on the truck. He sold his route though.

Aa there is the difference, we are wet here. Constantly showers, hot and humidity. Feels like walking in an hot sauna 😅.

Dang how they gonna just face out the dual 80!. It's the most popular ratchet they sell, I also chose one over the 100t. Need to try the new improve version(100t), they seem cheaper for sure.

Has anyone here removed the grips on the newer 100s? I’m wondering if it’s just a simple swap to go from soft to hard?

When they release the old style squared off handle FLL100 in pink for Susan G Kormen day, only on trucks, that will certainly happen.
