New Snap-On Guy, NOT Happy

So we had an awesome SO guy, always had lower than MSRP prices and reasonable weekly payments. Then for some reason SO decided to rezone the routes, and literally put the line right smack dab in my dealership lot. So us at Subaru got a new driver and Nissan, Chevy and Toyota get to keep the old guy.

This new guy is like a SO Kool Aid drinker. He is young and has no real concept of how working as a tech is, including dead weeks with barely any flagged hours. Everything I ask for prices on he gives me MSRP, I mean identical to www.snapon.com prices.

Plus, another tech missed one payment with the old SO guy, like 6 months ago, and the guy never gave him a hard time, but this new guy told this tech that if he didn't make up the payment right that week that he would have to go into collections and maybe take one of the tools back. Mind you, this is after we pulled a week where most of us didn't even see 20 hours.

The old SO guy stops by the Nissan service area (same building as us) on Thursdays and this guy for us on Fridays. It's so frustrating...I want the old guy back. :(

I am not sure how that is going to work, because all our accounts were moved over to the new guy. I am sure I can still buy from the other guy, but I don't know if I can get another truck account with him.

As long as your ex snapon driver has no objection you can ask your acct to Be transferred to him . I dont think snap on would care which dealer you buy from long as they get your moneyss ;)

Then walk across the street to the old guy. SO will prohibit the old guy from crossing into the new guys territory, but I see no reason you can't buy within the old guys franchised territory.

That's one of the things that makes this whole thing frustrating. It's not even across the street, we literally share the same building as two of the three brands that still have him.

I will talk to him on Thursday and see what can be done.

there are certain "rules" every dealer has to follow, not cross other's route is one of the big ones.

call Snap On, let them know you and other techs will spend the money with the old Sanp On guy or Matco. gather all of your guys, and everybody calls everyday for a week, see what happens.

Actually they do care. I used to buy from 2 different snapon guys because one of them is a good friend and would give me better deals on things. But he always said never let the other dealer know because he had gotten in trouble before for the same thing.

As above for the boundary. But I sometime's drive to see my old SO dealer, or give him a call and tell him what I want, and have him drop by my friends place to do the swap  that said we don't work to a clocking system.

Our MAC guy sounds like your old SO guy though, so tend to get most stuff from him - he runs his business like clockwork and never lets us down....unlike our local SO dealer!:dunno:

but it's hard for the OP and other techs doing this way on regular bases.

FWIW, I've dealt with 2 of the Snap-On guys in my area, and none of them have ever quoted me anything but MSRP. Can't speak for how they handle payments.

Do you work at Inskip? Because I think you would be all considered one account. It would be weird snapon would break up a company like that so close together.

Stop whining and complaining and pull your head out of your a-- and spend your money where you want to. It's a free country for a bit longer. If SO is running your life, you don't have one. Gee, what is this new generation going to do?

Actually, no, you can't. I'm going through this now, I'm trying to change jobs but also buy a tool box from my current SO guy, he said as long as we sign the papers by the day I leave I'm golden, but if I start at my new job, he's not allowed to sell to me anymore.

The only advantage I see buying off the truck as opposed to the website is being able to inspect the tools for defects ahead of time; otherwise if the truck is the same price as the website, where's the incentive? They should give you a 10% discount for paying with cash in full, or at least not charge you sales tax when paying with cash.

It's a mobile business and different owner will have different way of running their game. Whether it will be successful or not, it shouldn't matter to you. Just don't buy it from him and let's see what will happen next.

Grow a pair. Tell them if they want to sell to you, your terms. Right now they tell you anything and "you can't buy" and you walk away. Waaaaaayyyy.

Tell SO if they want to sell you a box, here is where I am. They have the problem, not you. Hellooooo. They need to sell more than you need a box.

Loan sharks on wheels is what they are. :D

Not really. Truck account has no interest rate. The driver carries that balance out of his own pocket.

The corporate financing is where they nail you, bad.

I always stuck with the truck account, and was paying $100 a week just to keep the guy happy for a while there.

Lol, everyone on here is a tough guy huh. It has nothing to do with snap on not wanting me to buy a box, it has to do with I want the price my current dealer offers, which is very, very fair, and him not wanting to get his franchise pulled for selling a box to someone in another dealers route

Well, if you want the box worse than they want to sell, they gotcha. Pay up.

What you don't seem to understand is that he is not buying a box from Snap-on, he is buying the box from a small business owner. They each have a territory that they purchased the right to have the exclusive sales of that product in that area. A dealer selling in another area is in violation of his franchise agreement and can get their franchise pulled.

It is no different than putting up a McDonald's in an area. You are not allowed if you are not the franchise owner in that area.

I don't get it. I really don't. I'm not being price gouged, infact I'm getting 50% off msrp. If the dealer at another location cant match that price, why would i buy from him?

Well, I've been saying that. Sounds like SO and the "franchise" dealers that paid SO for the territory are colluding to screw you. Just the way I am, but when that starts to happen, I'll offer the cash for what I want and if they don't take it, screw em. SO didn't consult or pay you to have you in a "territory" now did they? It's another Cabal. Fight back. What give SO the right to decide which person you are allowed to deal with or not? That is how SO has been screwing all you guys with rediculous prices all these years. Competition keeps us all in the game with fair rules.

im under the impression that if enough of you tell the new guy, or call the area manager or whatever, that you can tell that guy to ef off and not come back... i mean hell, actually i guess the shop manager could tell eff off and get the old guy back.

But I'm not going to buy from the new guy. My dealer said he will sell to me as long as I haven't started the new job yet.

When you become an automotive technician, working 10 hours a day to try to make your hours, then and only then will your opinion matter, and it won't matter that much.

No shipping costs, truck financing and up until last week, better pricing.
