I am a Mac Tool Box guy all day long. But I needed a Tool Cart to make things a little easier when working in other areas in the shop away from the Car Shop Master Set or the Tool Box in the Machine Shop. So I bought a Tekton for pretty much free.
The catch is I purchased 2 of their 48 Tool Cabinets for the company during the 20% earning promotion getting me a $1000 credit.
First off the Tool Cabinets are really well built and heavy duty. The Slides work great and the Drawer Liners are right up there with the Mac Tool Liners. The drawer Latching system is user friendly and stout. I love the way the Drawer are design with the embosses and slits so you can easily add dividers. The Casters are very nice too.
The same goes for the Tool Carts. Nice sturdy unit after it is all assembled. The Assembly is easy and they ship you all the tools necessary save for the Ratchet (7/16 DP Socket for the Casters, a T25 Torx Driver hand held and a 3/8 long reach for a ratchet). The design is pretty straight forward and basically becomes a series of interlocking features and shear plains making it very ridged (more ridged than any of the 3 Mac Tool Carts I have owned over the years). The Caster are high quality and use a Bolt for the Axel vs a pinned over tube like a Rivet...bearing too not a sleeve like the cheap Casters. The Caster lock work really well.
Took me about an hour to assemble it since the directions were in an envelop attached to the outside of the Box and Fed X had managed to rub them off. The plastic envelop was there but the directions were not. Pretty easy however.
2 tings I don't like, first having 4 locks to lock the thing down. 1 for the top and 1 for each drawer. No biggy for me as I do not lock any boxes in my shop. But for someone wanting one where they need to lock it up that may be a deal breaker.
Second, It has Swivel Casters on all 4 corners. I prefer 2 locked Casters on one end and 2 swivels on the other. Makes the Cart more manageable going through doorways.
Is it worth the $720, no tax and free shipping. Yes if you own a Mac Macsimizer and probably not if you own a US General (my opinion).
Would I recommend a Tekton Tool Cart: Yes. Over a Mac? Yes except if it is one of their Macsimizer Tools Carts (insert spendy here). Snappy...I have no experience with any Snappy Tool Storage at least that I have owned.
I was impressed enough with the quality and function of this middle of the road priced line of Boxes that I ordered a 60 inch Cabinet for our Panel Bending Department...leading to another $590.00 in store credit so now all the tools in the Tool art are basically free...at least that is what I tell myself.
