New (to me) 30x30

So a few years ago I bought a house with a garage and this 30x30 shop/quonset hut. Guess it was used for horses back in the 60s. Idk.. anyways.

This thing needs some TLC to get it to my liking. I thought it would be nice to show you all my progress as I go about the transformation.
Fix concrete (big crack),
Cinderblock wall is in bad shape and not worth tuck point. It will be removed and 2x6 stud wall will be put in its place with a service door and 2 new windows and steel panel exterior to match rest of building.
Change the sliding barn door to an overhead door.
Batt Insulate both gable walls and the new wall that is replacing the cinderblock wall. Spray insulate the quonset curved wall. Plywood for interior wall.

Still debating on how to do the ceiling. Under the rafters, put a layer of plastic visqueen and then either steel panel or plywood. And then spray loose cellulose ontop to insulate.

Going to be a long process and slowly done over the course of a year or two as the extra money is available.

First off was fixing concrete.

Removed only the bad area and also in the doorway where the new overhead door would go. Regraded, rebar pinned to existing slab and foundation wall under the block and poured new Crete (was free:bounce:, I'm a redi-mix driver and was leftover from another job) 4" thick slab and almost 8" by the foundation.

Next is the new over head door. Which is ordered and on the way. 12x9 insulated. I will have to do some minor frame work first but not bad. The current door opening is higher than the rafters so I have to frame it down from 11 and a half feet to make it all work with my 11ft rafters. And give me the headroom i still need.

Debating on which kind of a garage door opener to use. Traditional or a shaft style. Opinions??

Great job on that floor! My father-in-law has a place almost exactly like that. I’ll be following along so I can share ideas with him.

Well, little detour today. On my way home, about a mile from my house, out to the curb I found this little work bench base. Not very heavy duty but I thought, why not. So in the back of my truck she goes.

I got to thinking what I could use it for. Maybe put it in the basement for the wife for her arts and crafts pinterest bologna:bounce:

Then I thought, well I would like to make a stand for my drill press and grinder. So that's what I did.

A little spray paint and cut a new piece for the top out of my plywood stash and there ya have it. I new stand in less that 15 min of work

Oh by the way. The concrete has cured enough to move the shop back and get it a lil organized so I can start using it again.

Got some expansion joints cut with the partner saw and officially done with the concrete.

I picked up the door last night at menards. Should get started on that later this week. Hopefully a work rain day wednesday.

Update!

Next step of shop renovation....

Bye bye sliding doors that freeze in the winter. Hello nice new over head door. Gotta finish the steel siding but ran out of daylight. Atleast it will stay dry for the next few days with all the rain we are suppose to be getting.

New door is 12x9 insulated which will be nice once the whole place is finally insulated.

Had to frame it down to the 9 feet from 11 and a half which was actually higher than the rafters.

P.s. I have 25ft of barn door track and 4 rollers for the doors if anyone has use for them.

Well, getting a lil closer to wrapping up this part of the garage door and siding. I reused the tin from the barn doors to piece in the area where the track was and the area where I had to bring the door frame down 2 and a half feet. Pieced it in the best I could and still make it look nice without having to start completely over.

Between rain and beer breaks:beer: I almost have it done. Just need to do the corner trim now where the old track board went out passed the building.

I cant seem to find the same trim that was used on the edges at any of the box stores or online. I have some pro rib corner/gable end trim but is bent differently.

Anyone able to help me out here? I would like to find the same stuff if I can.

Close up pics of trim and measurments below

Bussssssssch Latte's sure do make for good beer breaks !!

I have a pair of similar buildings but they are in way worse shape than yours. The previous owner used one of them as his oil changing area as the ground inside it is oily enough I think it could be collected and reused one day.

The place looks great and I think your plans are right on track with what I'd do if I were to finish one of my hoop sheds out !!

Mmmm yea buschlattes really hit the spot.

Got some more odds and ends done today. I gave up on trying to find the same shaped trim that was used so I had a buddy who has a body shop been me some that will work out perfect. Little paint and will put them on later this week.
