I don't make my living anymore using my tools. So some years ago I sold off the main body of my tool collection.
Just recently I have decided to start purchasing some minor hand tools and try to build up a semi decent set of basic hand tools.
I have owned a lot of the higher end truck tools such as Snap on etc...
I really like the quality of their tool as well. What I don't like are the price tags.
I have gone ahead and started to build back up with mostly gearwrench and Tekton. I have a few others as well but it has to this point been mostly those two brands. I am personally very happy with what I'm seeing come with the gearwrench brand but not so much at all withe tekton.
I would like to hear some input on these tool brands and I would also like to know some other brands of tools that aren't crazy expensive but are of decent durable quality. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sunex gets a lot of love here, although I don't own any. I do have a set of the new tekton wrenches and love them. Moving up the scale from GW you have USA Williams, SK, Armstrong, Wright. (No particular order)

Toptul sounds good as well, but I don't own any.

Carlyle from Napa is good stuff as well

VIM is an Oem for a couple of the truck brands so if you need bit sockets you may want to check them out

You will like those Gearwrench pliers. I have all the ones pictured except the big Tounge and groove , end cutters and linemans. I bought them because they were inexpensive and decent. I needed a set for my service van tool set. I have nicer and more expensive pliers that I didn't want to lose or get stolen. Make sure you put WD-40 on them because they will form some surface rust. I am partially to blame because they do see temperature extremes because they stay in the van.

I'd second VIM, I have lots of their stuff and it's really good and not too hard on the wallet. I've tried some GW stuff but I'm on the fence about it.

stark tools? interesting
When i ordered them they were supposed to be XtremepowerUS or something like that. I spoke with one of their reps and the answer i got was that's what your gonna get if you order XtremepowerUS. I like the wrenches any way just from looking at them.

I wish i could have found ones to order with a rack. They will be fininding a different home as soon as i find a bigger box.
The stubbys are also tektonand i actually do like what i have seen of them.

Another chance to be a GearWrench shill (As I was accused of on another thread...)

My Ratchets and Sockets...

I love them....

And my Tekton ball pein hammers...They are well worth the money...

I had a talk with Santa, and he told me that I was going to get all the Tekton 72 tooth Low Profile Ratchets, both the extra long Ratchets, and the Swivel Head Ratchet Set for Christmas...10 in total...

Tekton #'s---15010/15013/14902/14901/14931/14932/14933 and 91804...

Total cost: $ 193.15 from Amazon...

So far both brands are more than living up to expectations...

What has been your reaction???

So far...

But...

Not USA made...

Chinese, I'm afraid...

However, the price $ 51.97 (8, 12, 16, 24, 32 and 48 0z) is well worth it!!!

Less than $10.00 a hammer thats not bad. I know tekton was trying to bring some usa tools back into there line.

Why did you sell your other tools?
Necessity.

fngrtoe... retired postal wrench?

On topic otherwise:
I like Gearwrench as a brand. They offer a decent quality product at a pretty modest price. I've got some of their stuff in my personal tools. Their sockets are pretty darned nice for the price. Got a 3/8" drive roto head that I have been using day in, day out for a couple of years straight. I blew the guts out of it early on, on a rusted exhaust bolt. Warrantied it, and tossed it right back into service. It's my basher ratchet, and my go to at work. My go to at home is the Snap On longer handled roto head. Bought that when I was still responsible for my own work tools. But yeah, GW isn't bad. Ratchets are pretty nice, sockets are well finished with very nice chrome and stampings, the wrenches are a pretty good bang for the buck, and I've seen them in plenty of service carts.

I can't actually comment on Tekton. I don't own any of their offerings. Welcome aboard. Some of the folks get a little bent out of shape if there is already a thread on something. I think most of us just like talking tools though.

I should have thought to search for an existing quote but I'm a newby to this forum type thing. I certainly wasn't trying to step on any toes.

Nah its all good. Just want to make sure you get best for your money. They sell bigger sizes of the better wenches but in singles. Just have to look them up. It's Hard to sort thru sometimes bc they sell alot of diff kinds.

"Retired Postal Wrench?" = Were you a mechanic for the USPS? We get our tools issued there, and while some of it is good stuff, a lot of it is as old as I am. Lol. They are very idealistic in the notion that the issued boxes are completely sufficient for the job.

No i didn't work for USPS but I did work on a few different types of our nations Military aircraft. So they're pretty darn cautious over tool control.
