It's a broken record but I'd much rather spend that same money on a used vice.
If you can find a good quality vise for the right price on the 2nd hand market in your area, I don't blame you.
But I didn't want a vise restoration project and the only bench vises in my local area are overpriced scrap metal boat anchors.

Here is a Wilton Bullet, HF based the Doyle vises on this design, and the guy wants $450 in rusted beat to **** condition...

WILTON Bullet 450s Bench Vise / Vice *Made in USA * - tools - by...
Wilton bullet 450 s vise. Opens and closes smooth. Jaw teeth are like new. Vise is dirty and the swivel locks are stuck locked so it needs some penetrating oil and maybe a propane torch to free...phoenix.craigslist.org
I'm not questioning your decision at all (you do you) and it's up to whoever buys it to determine if the price is fair but that Wilton actually looks to be in very good shape. That looks like surface rust and I don't see evidence it has been beat to ****.If you can find a good quality vise for the right price on the 2nd hand market in your area, I don't blame you.

It is magic as best of best was cast steel or cast high tensile pearlitic malleable iron made without compromise that was an absolute chore and marketed as unbreakable by some of the best/proudest manufacturers .Sure, but $450 for a restoration project vs $300 or less for a new premium quality Yost ADI, etc. When I looked for used vised 10 years ago this is what I saw in my area- overpriced boat anchors. I gave up on used vises; it's just ridiculous that people think that 50 year old cast iron is magic as compared to new. No one here says, you have to buy 50-year-old sockets, the new ones are inferior. But somehow vises are different.
If you post your location I bet one of us old vise fans can find a good used vise on C/L for way less than $700i bought the 4 inch yost beforeit was $212, i busted my cheap one, but it took me 36 years to bust it
the used vices around here are $700-900, everybody think there gold
I appreciate the vise community that is represented on this forum. I was put in touch with a guy who offered me a great vintage vise for reasonable money. Ultimately I went with a Yost 750 Di rotating vise for the things I do (which turned out to be the right thing), but if I'd decided on a more-traditional vise I would have definitely invested in the time and relatively small amount of additional money for an older MiUSA vise.If you post your location I bet one of us old vise fans can find a good used vise on C/L for way less than $700
What major city do you live near?
