But I really wanted the set with the ergo handles. =(

The ergo handles can be bought for a few bucks apiece at Lowe's. You're saving so much money on the files it's still a great deal even if you buy the ergo handles separate. That's what I did after I received my maintenance set.

Part number or anything else? I've never seen them there but would like to pick them up.

I needed six and luckily enough six is how many my local Lowe's had. 21 bucks plus tax.

I ordered a bunch of handles way before the deal for files I picked up at a woodworking show, so maybe some of the leftovers can be used for these files.

Yeah, Amazon has really pissed me off on this one and definitely damaged my impression of them. 3 of the 4 sets I ordered have been canceled now.

To be honest, I'm disappointed, but I'm understanding.

They are able to buy up x number of sets, but 10x number of people placed orders. I imagine that a lot of folks ordered sets to resell as well, compounding the issue.

Nicholson or their distributor might also be to blame for supply issues. Who knows.

If these files ever arrive I think it will be a miracle. The amount of E-Mail generated for one allegedly mis-priced set of files is stunning. But, entertaining, just the same.

I still have an "open order" on the 7 piece without handles, but the ergo set just plain disappeared from my account with no emails at all about why I'm not getting them etc.

I feel like venting, anyone have a phone # to contact them ?

I always find it's a ***** to find the page where they will call you back. I think you can get to it from here. Login and give it a try. I enter my phone number and they usually call within a few seconds.

You can't call them. In the help section, there should be an option somewhere for them to call you.

Two emails back and forth later:

Hello,

I'm sorry this has been a disappointing order experience for you; this doesn't normally happen.

I understand that you waited long time for this item and it was canceled from the order.

I see this item is available from the seller but at a higher rate. Sellers on our website are allowed to sell items at any price they feel is fair. However, we do have rules sellers must follow:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=1161272

If you'd like to report a particular seller or listing, please go to the URL below:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/reports/

Our investigations team will look into the situation and take appropriate action. However, we can't disclose the result of any investigation we may perform.

I'm forwarding your message to the appropriate department--I know they'll want to hear about your experience. We'll consider your feedback as we plan further improvements.

Customer feedback like yours really helps us continue to improve our store and provide better service to our customers.

I'm very sorry about all of this. I hope you'll consider this an isolated incident and give us another chance in the future.
*shrug* guess there's nothing more to say. *sigh* really wanted those files.

What did you say that prompted that email?
My first email complained about the frustration and disappointment about the lengthy wait and the time it will take for me to find the product elsewhere. They then send a reply saying "we're sorry but there's nothing we can do" and that I can order it from a 3rd party seller.

I then emailed that this is really disappointing and that I see it is available from 3rd party sellers but for an extra $50-60 over what I ordered it for.

I also said some of things, but you get the gist of it.

I brought up the replacement cost issue in hopes they'd issue a promo credit or something of the sort, but instead the give me links about 3rd party seller rules. Ah well, I suppose it's a dead horse.

Good for Amazon, on this. I find the whole "whine, ***** and moan until I get my way" attitude of today disgusting. Amazon has great customer service, and they bend over backwards to take care of their customers, I've found. Sometimes "sorry" should be enough.

Agreed. While we are at, I also find the people that order many in these situations disgusting.....especially those that look just to flip them for profit. As for anyone that is bitching about not receiving "all" (of the same thing) the ones they ordered, I would have been happy to get the one that I ordered!:headscrat

I figured it was along those lines. Are you like me, if it had been cancelled upfront without the BS, I would have shrugged my shoulders and said "bummer"?

I received an email saying they will honor the price on my (new) order when they (Amazon) receive stock.
I really hate to keep checking back every few days.

Yea. 3 weeks and one was cancelled. 4 weeks later the other one was given an updated ETA. Then another week later and they cancelled the second item.

If they figured this all out within a few days or a week, I would have been less disappointed. I feel that I was led on, although I agree that there's not really anything that could have been done.

I agree with that too - ebayers and resellers tend to ruin it for everyone.

I also had the ergo handled file order canceled. Amazon is really F'ed up. I ordered a Grip-on pliers in nickel finish and they sent me one in orange and black paint with a different part number. Their ad showed photos of both but had the part number and description of the nickel finish one, and the main photo was of the nickel one. I called and they sent me ANOTHER one in paint finish. I'll bet they never checked to see what the problem was so it could be fixed, as I asked them to do. Just shipped one more out. They did it no charge and sent me a return label for the first one. At this point I think they don't have any nickel finish and are obviously unwilling to change their ad or even fix anything, so I'm just keeping them both! Screw em.

This is getting amusing. I'm getting these messages on a daily basis. They ask to approve the update or the order will be cancelled. I'm not sure if this is their strategy to wait it out or not. Anyway, I continue to approve and the order stays live.

Hello,

We're writing about the order you placed on April 07 2011 (Order# 103-3586010-xxxxxxxx). Unfortunately, we are unable to ship the item(s) as soon as we expected and need to provide you with a new estimate of when the item(s) may be delivered:

"Nicholson Machinist Hand File Kit Without Handles, 7-piece, 7" Length/10" Length"
Estimated arrival date: May 31 2011

If you still want us to ship the delayed items when they do become available (though they may arrive later than expected) please visit this address to approve the delay:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/css/summary/edit.html/?useCase=approve&orderID=103-3586010-xxxxxxxx

If you do not approve this delay by June 02 2011, we will cancel the item. However, if the item becomes available before that date, we will automatically ship it to you. If the option to approve a delay is not available from this link, that means there has been a change in your order and approval is no longer necessary.

If there are other items in your order, they'll be shipped according to the delivery estimates listed in the order details in "Your Account" (www.amazon.com/your-account).

By approving the new delivery estimate, you are letting us know that you still want the item(s) though they may arrive later than expected. If there are other items in your order, they will ship according to the delivery estimates listed in the order details in "Your Account" (http://www.amazon.com/your-account).

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this delay.

Yeah. My order started with 3 sets (1 of each) and now it's down to 1 set and I've approved every delay request. I'm very disappointed I didn't get the ergo set.

Recently, it's a daily occurrence. I'm guessing it's a ploy to get me to miss one so they can cancel the order.

Just got my final email telling the 3rd Nicholson set (I ordered one of each) had been canceled because they noticed a "pricing error". Funny how they sent me 5-7 different messages about shipping delays, asking me to approve, etc... and NOW 2 months? later they noticed the price was wrong.

I just got another one cancelled as well. Totally unacceptable in my opinion. In fact, I had even gotten an email with a delivery date last week, then this week its cancelled! Getting sick of Amazon!

Did you notice about 1 month difference between the cancellation of the 1st item and this final item?

We're contacting you about order #104-. Unfortunately, we recently discovered that an error caused the following item(s) to be displayed at an incorrect price:

Nicholson Maintenance File Set With, Flat/Mill/Half-Round/Round/4in Hand/Taper, 6" Length/8" Length/10" Length, (Pack of 1)
Nicholson Machinist Hand File Kit Without Handles, 7" Length/10" Length (Pack of 1)

In this case, we're unable to offer this item for the incorrectly posted price. Therefore, we've cancelled your order for this item.

At any given time, despite our best efforts, a small number of the millions of items on our site may be mispriced. We're very sorry for this disappointing news.

Yup, I got shafted for all but one of the sets I ordered. When the deal popped up, I ordered one of each kind. One shipped right away. The rest went through the "approve this change!" thing every day for weeks. Last set was canceled this morning. I wrote a 3rd angry email and they gave me a credit. I'd rather have had the tools!

I have a few issues with amazon on this. Those of you fully supporting them are very much entitled to your opinion.

1. I had one item (the ero grip file set) simply VANISH from my order. No email, no item, nothing. This is spooky-bad from my standpoint.

2. Amazon taking 2 months to realize a price mistake is unrealistic. I have to conclude that I was being lied to about the price mistake part. This likely removes the "incorrect price" legal loop hole that protected amazon from liability for deceptive trade practices.

3. Some people got their file set at the lower prices. On principle I do not like to be be treated less well then any other customer. To do so violates my rights and, again, this strips amazon of the legal protection of the "price was incorrect" defense - and may expose them to a whole new class of legal trouble based on geographic or other discrimination.

4. I got spammed almost daily about a file set that was "In Stock" with new shipping dates a few days out. I can only conclude that amazon was trying to catch me off guard and have my inaction cancel those items. This is not how I like to be treated by vendors. As was said above; "fess up and cancel them all at the outset" would have been much better and honest. This was disrespectful to me and felt plainly deceptive - how can you continually not arrange logistics on an item that you show to have in stock?

5. I can never be sure if a good deal on amazon is a good deal or not ever again. I warn every person I talk with about amazon about this situation and note that amazon may not honor posted prices so buyer beware. This kind of story can erode a brand value over time - this could cost amazon many thousands of times the cost of a few files.
