I have nothing of value to add but I've seen junk drawers that look more organized than that. What a CF!

Yeah and I would have pry been ok with it if I hadn't taken a look in there. After seeing it I really just want to take it upon myself to redo the whole thing. I just wish you could pick up these boxes at the hardware stores. Ebay seems to be the only option other than trying to get one outta the phone company lol

Over the years, I've done, and redone quite a few phone installations at my houses and for my daughters. I've always been able to get "almost new" NID's, splitters, etc., etc, but swinging by the phone company and looking into the dumpster out where the technicians park their service trucks. They come back in with lots of parts, which they have pulled out of a house, and rather than store them away in thier trucks, they toss them in the dumpster, and stock the trucks with brand new, in the box, units.

Sometimes, what I pull out might be missing a screw, or some other part, I always grab more than I need, and have never been without something that I needed. Actually, there have been times, when a technician asked me what I was looking for, then helped me find a good one.

Unfortunately the company here is all fenced in n trucks are behind a gate. I will try n make good with the tech that comes out tomorrow n try n get as much info and possibly parts from him. Basically I'm at the point to where if I don't get a new box tomorrow I'll source the parts via eBay

Of course took the day off work yesterday for nothing, apparently the ticket was closed. Looks like I'm gonna order from eBay n do it all myself smh. Phone company ensures someone would be out by 7pm Monday but I'm not holding my breath. So any particular NID I should purchase? Also gonna get myself a dsl splitter to go with the new to me box

Escalate the trouble ticket. Ask for a Field Supervisor call back, if you get nowhere then tell them you want to escalate this trouble/SAFETY hazard to the FCC and make a complaint.

Okay, v1ru5879, some yards here are fenced too, but the driver of the first truck out of the yard opens the gate, and it stays open until the last truck returns at night. The discipline ins't good on securing the gate, sometimes the "last truck back" thinks others are still out, and leaves the gate open for them, often it stays open all night.

In other yards, the dumpsters are outside the fence so the trash company can get to them. On the other hand, the newly renovated yards have power gate operators and card readers, so those yards are closed all the time. It varies widely, at least here.

Well today the work order got moved from being first in line and a tech showing up between 8 and 9:15 to 9:15 and 1:45 smh! Lets see if I dont get a tech saying everything looks ok and leaves. I specifically requested a new box be put in. I am pretty much on the verge of going into the local office since the 1800 number seems to get me nowhere! Wish me luck that a tech actually shows up

New NID installed telephone lines not connected to help with internet speed not a big deal since we don't use a landline anyways. Also got a new modem that is dual band. 15 mbs on my download as opposed to my usual 8 overall very satisfied and lucked out with a really cool tech who had no problem doing as much as he could for me. Also got his personal number for any future issues or concerns.

Here are some pictures of the current set up. First picture is where the cat5 at the NID runs to inside. Second pic is the feed from the phone company. Third is the tap n ring wires with the terminal ends not connected to anything. Forth and fifth is the splices into the main. Sixth is the original lines going into the house. Seventh is where they didn't go though the gromet smh. The last is the wires that are in the screw terminals

It's "Tip, Ring, Sleeve"

Goes way back to the old days of switch boards where you saw operators with cords....you called her and said "I want to talk to the Jones's"....she would pull out a cord that had a plug on it....a metal 'tip', an insulator...and then the 'ring' and above that the 'sleeve'. Yup....just two wires....

And I was about to ask why you still had a hardline....then I saw your internet connection...so you have DSL.

To be honest....you might want to consider going to cable. Unless your provider is going to install fiber....that DSL is not going to keep up.

We have cable....but only for internet....and VOIP for the house phone. For the phone I use Magic Jack....$95 for 5 years

TV is OTA.....and we have Netflix and Amazon Prime....We buy so much **** off Amazon, the Prime cost is worth it.

The cable provider is Spectrum...pretty consistent 100MPS

Yeah that was my typo bad on the tap and ring, musta been the auto correct on my phone.

Unfortunately bonded DSL is the best we can get in the area. They are literally the only phone company that services the area in high speed internet. I would love to have a cable connection. Our best speed available is the 15mbs

We have a verizon extender box and are all on the verizon network at home so the landline is really only there as a requirement for the DSL. Believe it or not we were still able to stream multiple devices with the poor connection we had before. The new parts will definitely make everything much more enjoyable. Biggest upgrade was the new dual band router, its the Windstream Actiontec T3200
