Well, I found one close, but still not a 150. 1958 '80', I've started to restore. I hope you plan on showing us how you'll do the headband as it looks like I'll be needing to do one also.

Cool DP, nice stepping stone until you find that special 150 ;) as for the headband, I have a sheet of shiny aluminum or stainless(I need to dig it out and see) and planned to try two styles. First one would be flat, either engine turned or brushed. Second one requires me building a bead roller and rolling a few horizontal deco lines in it with rounded over edges for a 3d style. Still trying to decide if it's worth making a temporary flat one or using that time to make the bead roller that I can use here and on other projects as well...

Oops, sorry I did not see that. Dang for $100 that was a great deal. The other folks that bid up the off shore drill press to $2xx must have thought you were a fool for spending so much on that old piece of junk. :spit:

Aw, that isn't bad at all. That handle can be repaired or easily replaced. At least none of the casting got broken.

Yeah, here is is, I think it was a Chicago but I know it was made in taiwan. It went for $275 and the Atlas was next... I got nervous bigtyme. My mind started racing, how much $$ did I bring, how much $$ can I really go, I knew how much I wanted it but it's also rent week and I need a place to stay...***** being poor with decisions like this...:p After what seemed like an eternity(30 seconds or so), they started the Atlas auction. I was mentally prepared to go $350 on it but absolutely did not want or need to.

Supposed to rain this week so I rounded up all my ready to paint red things and ran outside. This will take care of a few projects all at once, even the pallet racking I just got from my scrap guy, the dog and my beard...

Nice drill press nine. I finally finished up that Wilton vise and I'm starting to look at my next project. I coincidentally saw a pic of a Craftsman 100DP bench top model. while scanning a garage sale ad with pics. The guy wanted $80 for it. he didn't sell it last weekend and I took the first chance I had to run over this morning and look at it. Well I Still have my money and he still has his drill. It was the biggest pos ever. Broken missing parts everywhere, newer motor, just junk. He said "yeah the original motor was bad so we replaced it and threw the old one in the scrap pile. I had him go look for it but it was gone. Oh well. These deals like you come across are very rare around here.

"She" always helps, this time she was busy qc inspecting the bottoms while I painted the tops. :lol_hitti

I used a HF hvlp gun and rustoleum safety red paint thinned with mineral spirits.

Are we sure he didn't just dip the dog and rub him on the beams ? :lol_hitti

That would be cruel, I only use her to clean up :lol_hitti

Thanks guys, here is a recent resto on a Block Grinder, just in time for it's 50th birthday. Black and Gold Hammertone, coarse and fine wire wheels. Still need to get some visors and a light. The grinder is dated June 28th, 1963 :Willy_nil

Well, this poor thing gave it's life for me...The armature burned up wire wheeling parts. Note to self, use larger HP grinder next time...

Well you will just have to find one that is thrashed, only really good for parts and use it as an organ donor. No need to waste all the restoration effort!

Right on, I have another 1/4 hp that the case is pretty bad, I'll probably swap windings and part out the ugly case.

That's so sad, I'm sorry for your loss.

Chock it up as a learning experience, I know now to use at least a 1/2 hp for buffing/wire wheeling.

wow, thats a bummer!

It's all good.

Got any new project going on in the new year?

Still reorganizing my shop, I do have a few machines lined up for refurb though, including the Atlas Milling Machine, couple more block grinders and a few drill presses.

Mind if I ask the colours you used on that block grinder? I have an old Beaver DP I plan on fixing up and those colours would look goooooooood! ;)

Rustoleum Hammered Black and Hammered Gold

You could always get it rewound, shame to let it go to waste

I can't imagine how much that would cost, I'll probably be swapping parts off my other grinder that still works but the case is trashed.

Thanks for stopping in guys!

Ok, I swapped out the guts from a 1/3 hp donor so I have a hot rod supped up sleeper model grinder now :3gears: Label says 1/4 :lol_hitti

I gotta dig out the other side cover and two shields, this one will remain a light duty stone grinder from now on.

I think you stole someones boat anchor Nine. :willy_nil That top one looks like it has spent time under water.

That is a shame all your hard work and the grinder died, at least you were able to salvage most of it.

That boat anchor came on the only grinder stand that I have(already repainted). The guy used it for ceramics and pottery or something, I literally only bought it for the stand but amazingly the grinder was smooth as a brand new off the shelf grinder and ran for minutes after turning off. Works out though, I probably would not have tried restoring the outside of that donor anyway so at least I get to use it.

I have two style labels on the same style grinder, these are both 1/4 hp. I assume the 1/3 could be either.

Lookin' good. Are you going to keep it single speed or put a multi sheave pulley on the motor? Didn't anyone tell you, chuck keys make an awful drill bit. ;)

Selling this one since I got the Craftsman bench and Atlas floor models. It will be sold with this pulley, it was missing the motor and motor pulley when I bought it. Still has about 6 speeds with motor adjustment, just the upper speeds will be compromised with the small motor pulley, no harm for metal working.

It would have been better with a clear background instead of the white but this was more of a refurb than a 10 pt restoration... Overall I'm happy! Hope to get about $300 or I will just hang on to it...

Thanks WarrenJ! Here is a sneak peak at what I have been working on lately.

It's an old Kennedy 20" carry box I just refinished.

Thanks Outlaw, yes glue, top coat and lots of time. I used a flat clear on the Kennedy and a satin finish on the Craftsman to check the difference. I kind of like the satin more but from 10' or so you can't tell the difference anyway.
