Thanks guys! Upholstery is just part of the job, unfortunately fixing half the **** the owners/builders do is always a battle.

Customer has a hidden radio antenna in the car but special ordered this $4.98 shark fin from China for me to mount on his roof. I had to use the contour gauge again to shape the base to the roof curvature. I almost want to leave the hidden antenna hooked up and just tape mount this on for his satisfaction. Honestly, it hurts my heart to drill a hole in the roof for this piece of plastic but he specifically asked me to and he is a paying customer...:wtf: :dunno:

I hear ya on the shark fin. That's not cool on an old hot rod especially it its original steel. Screw the radio, he should put in exhaust cut outs and listen to the engine. But as you say, paying customer gets what he wants. A cheap Chinese made plastic antenna that will probably fail before long.

I got some replacement bearings for the drill press motor, factory bearings were 8502 with one metal shield and one open side. The ones I found to work(others discontinued) are 6202 15mm ID sealed with dual rubber shields.

Yes, I have some nice aluminum and stainless sheet but haven't had time to rip one out and engine turn it yet.

Any progress on the A/C yet?

Nine ordered bearings for the A/C too, but those haven't come in yet. Apparently they were almost as hard to find as the muffler bearings he sourced for the sweet ride he's been working on.

If those bearings have a lateral load on them they won't last very long.

Good thing it's a drill press and not a mill :) Nine had two conditions when he trade me an Atlas drill press:

(1) No milling
(2) If I ever sold it or died, he gets first dibs.

Fortunately he hasn't kill me yet...

Haha. We use that same bearing at work in sizing roller beds and they last about 3 weeks to a month. So I was just warning.

If I knew what "sizing roller beds" were, the information might be interesting and/or useful. A Google search wasn't helpful. Perhaps you'll explain?

As to the suitably of the bearings for nine's application, no problem. A 6202 is a deep groove radial bearing designed for, primarily, radial (lateral?) loads. I'll confidently rely on the designers of that vintage motor regarding the magnitude of the anticipated loads. Too bad the designers of the "sizing roller beds" were not as concerned with service life.

I use a 6202 as a clutch release bearing in my Ducati. It handles axial loading nicely. If you wanted to really have something to handle axial and radial loading, you could use a pair of 7202 angular contact bearings with the thrust faces facing inwards toward the armature.

The only load on these bearings will be belt tension from the motor to center pulley but thanks for the info!

AC guy just left with a parts list and will be back shortly to install it! Yay, its been HOT!

Nine,
Just catching up on your work. Nice job making the car "as it should be" minus the fin :lol::lol:.

What does a guy need to do to get a leather beer holder?

Keep knocking the projects out of the park!

Cheers,
Chris

Ned, my hero! I was jealous of your recent mill refurb so I had to go on a mission. Finally found me a small Bridgeport and just got it home today, it may become a project soon but wither way, it will help make some projects! Sorry I haven't updated the thread lately, as some of you know we got flooded back in August and I'm still working on rebuilding the house and the customer's hot rod. I'll be posting more pics on it soon, we have made some changes inside but most of it has been drive train and electrical repair so far.

Chris, send me your mailing addy and I'll whip you one up(beer coozie) next time I'm on machine. I think I read Orange, just let me know how you want it, sorry it's taken a year. :lol_hitti

Nines, you almost snuck in under the radar. You really need to find some time to get back here more often. That thing is awesome. I want me one of those. It appears to be in pretty good shape. What needs to be done? You said it might become a project. Or are you just talking about making it prettier?

Don't give him any ideas Rick... He was looking at the 3m peel chrome side molding to put on his running boards to protect them from door dings already. I'm just hoping he doesn't want the fake fender vents stuck all over it too... :scared:

You too Brien! My phone was stolen on Friday afternoon and I did not back it up so I no longer have your number(or anyone else here for that matter) so call or text when you get a minute and be sure to tell me who you are so I can save you in again. I still have that bigass vise if you want it, it'll need a de-rusting again now.... Anyway, have a Merry Christmas and a safe, Happy New Year!

Merry Xmas Nine! Hope the MIA phone is the end of the negatives and you can start the new year moving in a positive direction! You certainly deserve a break, and keeping up all the hard work is how to power past the troubles as you have shown!

Thanks guys, it was an old iphone 4 I've had for about 5 yrs, the kids have been teasing me about having a vintage iphone for a while so the upgrade was actually welcomed, I just wish I had backed up my numbers and dates. :(

Here is to hoping for a better 2017 for everyone! Thank you guys for reading!

Back on the hot rod again, the headliner is in but I still have to steam it and fine tune it then put the trim panels in.

Looks good. I bet it feels good to get back to some of the normal stuff you're used to doing. Making extra pocket money again probably isn't bad either.

OKay, the mill turned out to be a bigger project than planned. IDK if I screwed up the motor or if it was screwed up when I bought it but it's got a weak leg and I'll be replacing it.

In the meantime I wanted to clean up and sell the wood only version 20" band saw but when I moved it around to clean it up I plugged it in and it sounded funny. I decided to check out the motor and when I tilted it up, flood water started leaking out. 7 months later and the motor is still full of water. Well, I decided it was time to convert it to 3ph and put the VFD on it. This is the test fit, I'll make a trim ring to tidy it up when I'm done.

I got around to making a trim plate for the VFD tonight. It'll be drilled and screwed on.

That Delta is looking good Shane! I need to make it down there but that 8 hour round trip kills the whole day.

Plan a trip out of it, the state auction is every second Saturday of the month and if there isn't anything there, the pop up flea market is the same weekend and there is always the main flea market that's open every weekend. Maybe when the house is done you can come crash here for the weekend and we will hit the sales or auction.

Then finally I blew apart this old disc sander I picked up about 5yrs ago and started refinishing it. I swapped the old bashed up 3ph motor out for a single phase and found a disc plate for it. It goes in to paint today!

The band saw looks great!. Nice work restoring and improving an old piece of equipment. The sander will be another good one when finished. I'm always glad to see these older pieces restored to original use rather than become a flower planter on Pinterest.
