I used liquid tight conduit from my scrap guy to hold the wires. It's basically a self contained unit, I could cut the three motor wires in the control box and hook it up to any other <2hp motor machine and be working instantly, but this one will stay right here.

My arbor press has a Honda billet shifter for the speed wheel.

Duker, it's all good, she's been converted to an automatic and I've only made one test pass on her. After I get everything mocked up, I may pull her around to the body shop and put a Maaco paint job on her before I run her hard. [emoji3]

My son wants dragon scales on his glock and I told him I'd give it a shot. This is my first ever out the blue practice run on some scrap tubing. If anyone had done dragon scales or has any advice, post up! I'll be playing with the dimensions more before I cut his slide. I realize I need to lessen the tilt so the semi circle cut to the tips instead of leaving that triangle. This was eyeballed getting started. just messing around with the new DRO on repeating cuts.

Nice to see some chips flying. I'm sure the more you use it the better you'll get. There's always a learning curve with anything new. Or relearning curve if it's been awhile.

FIL did a pattern once like that... he used three cutters slightly different sizes but centered the pattern on the middle size. If that makes sense... made the scales graduate from large to small down the bar... fyi ... he was just F ing around... never put it on anything real.

Just thought it was cool.

From what I'm seeing Outlaw, and what my son told me, people do the scales like this in areas on the pistol slide to facilitate easier charging of a round. It provides more grip so you can get a round in the chamber quicker without slipping. It also looks cool as you and I agree. Here is a better pic of an M&P that's been finished and coated by a company called Fire4Effect. This one they ported the slide up front, added serrations along the sides and scales along the top.

It's all about the MPGs man! :3gears:

PP, there was a guy in a video that was smashing his into posts, his leg, door frames etc showing how he can one handed charge his pistol with the dragon scales on there. It's form follows function in this case, looks cool are secondary to how much it improved the actual function of the pistol.

So I'm going through the Atlas mill finally. when I got it, the entire gear box was gutted and missing, the lower u-joint for the table feed was broken and the handle was broken off the back gear knob. I got a gear box a while back but have been procrastinating on the project due to the back gear knob mainly. It's a concentric knob that rotates the back gear in/out and they are a common breaking point being pot metal. Mine had fused to the head prior to my owning it, I'm assuming that's why the handle was broke off. There's a seller on eBay offering newly machined knobs for $80 or so but I figured if I could get the bushing out, I could make one myself god cheap or free. It took me a while to free the frozen, fused knob from the head and get the shaft out without further destroying it. Once I got it out, I quickly came up with a plan. I found some bar stock close in diameter to the knob's bushing and turned it down to size in the lathe. After I got it sized, I cut it to length(over) in the band saw and faced it on the lathe. With it sized and faced, I offset it in the 4 jaw chuck the same distance as the bushing, center drilled and drilled to size and reamed. It fits, it works, now I just have to cross drill it for a roll pin that hold it to the shaft in relation to the bushing on the other end. I'll have to come up with a collar with ball bearing detent or something to hold the two factory positions indented into the head. More to come, hopefully have this thing running this evening.

After the last few days, they are starting to seem like a burden. My back is all effed up and I can't do anything. I have help tomorrow, so I hope I can at least get the 5 main cabinets setup. I will be dreaming of chips, maybe I will go to chipotle and get some chips, I know they are not the right type, but I am hungry and the other type don't sound appetizing.

Thanks Occupant! That is exactly what I need, there's a grainger and bolt supply house around the corner so I'll try to grab one. Awesome post, thanks again!

PP, make room. There has to be a flat spot big enough for a smaller lathe somewhere in your place? Extra bedroom, kitchen island or something. :D

Nines, be aware, there are ball plungers, and also spring plungers. You will want the ball plunger to use as a moveable detent. The spring plungers will hang up in that situation.

Actually, I had Merc send me a pic of his and it's a spring loaded pin with a knob to retract the pin, then you rotate the lever to take it in/out of back gear. I'm thinking the spring loaded ball may not be enough to hold the back gears engaged so I'm back to the drawing board on that one.

I wish I could post a video but you'll have to settle for a pic.

Atlas is working! I still need to fabricate a backgear knob for it to work properly but I am milling with it now!

I'll need to read the manual first Occupant, I've never operated a horizontal mill and just got this one working hours ago. I'll figure out how to change speed and when I get the table feed hooked back up, I'll learn feeds. I did see that section in the manual while I was looking at the blow up diagrams to put it back together. Now the hard part, reading...

Thanks for the kick Strouty!

My FIL was a machinist ... knowing him for many years before his passing... my GUESS... he would suggest the following...

You are learning the Mill???... you want to test the feeds???

Q-Tips and Two by Fours my son... chuck up a Q-Tip and mount a Two by Four and see what it does...

He was also "A Character"... similar to me... probably why my wife married me.
