Hey fellas, we are gonna start banning folks that continually ignore this rule. Please... Only reply to an ad if you have a pertinent question. No flaming or comments.

So, bad experiences or positive experiences with a seller isn't pertinant to an ad? Should we start a seperate thread in the Free Parking section to air our differences with a seller or a buyer? Curious minds need some direction...

I Think he is enforcing this rule because the comments that pop up from time to time from members who think they are gods gift to tool pricing. I recently had a Snap on Ratchet Lot for sale and some kid with a 2 post history came in and left his mark on the thread as a "LOL". My granddaddy always told me it was easier to come down on price than ask for more money after they sell. I would like some clarification so i dont cause any riffs by backing up a good seller with some favorable comments.

I gotcha. I knew that was a definate rule. If I think something is overpriced I just skip over it, just like at a yard sale. No point in getting into a ******* match with the seller...

Wait a second. Are you saying giving a bump to a nice item is verboten now? So saying, "Wow, that's cool" is not allowed?

if someone is trying to flog something and a bonafide better deal is to be had, is verbotten?.............dunno man, seems like the buyer beware thing is bs if all pertinent info isn't available...........trashing someone is not needed, but if it's available somewhere else for cheaper, what's the harm?.........

I have to agree there. If someone is way out of whack on pricing and its pointed out and buyers still want to pay then so be it.

My problem is we have some people who like to ridicule people and impose there knowledge or lack of via the thread. If you are actually interested in the item and the seller is out of line, Send him a PM with proof and your offer. Dont just jack up his thread because you feel the need to impower yourself over the seller. If your not intersested in the item just sit back and let the classified run its course.

I have the same question as Bolster. Are positive comments no longer allowed? I understand the ban on negative remarks; I delete enough of them.

How about something simple:

Buyer/Seller Feedback that is searchable.

No replies in the classifieds unless you are interested in the item now.. not if you had money, or when I get money, or in 6 months from now when my settlement check comes in, but now... ready to purchase.

You don't need a clarification or more pics if you have no intention of purchasing.

Let's try to address the original post and get clarity on that before we start bringing up all our myriad classified policy requests here.

i don't know. we are all friends here and sometimes ******** in the for sale ads. i see nothing wrong with that. like, dang i seen this too late and the $20 snap on ratchet is already sold, you know what i mean. but yea negative comments should not be made.

like bull's ratchet thread, there's a lot of bs going on there but i don't think it really takes away from the point of the post. it kinda shows he is trustworthy because of the camaraderie (had to spell check that one).

You mean posts like... I have one of those, do you think I should sell it. If I can't get enough for it maybe I should just keep it. What do you think guys?

Criticizing a seller's prices is a non-no on most of the good forums. That much I understand.

The only thing I want to know is if Ryan wants NO commentary of any kind, including positive remarks or banter.

I hope that's not what's being called for. :(
No banter would make the Classifieds section a really sterile and boring place.

I would think good banter ie. How good the seller is, the great bargain the tools are etc. would be ok. The flaming because someone thinks the price is too high is not cool. I would make it boring if no comments were allowed.

Guess maybe I shouldn't have.I pm'd Ryan asking for clarification but haven't received an answer.I only commented because it was listed as a Group Buy,not as an individual selling something.A group buy would indicate a retailer selling not an individual.I simply asked if the OP knew they were available for 1/4 of the price elsewhere.

I have no problem with having a no off topic policy, as long as it's enforced equally. Don't really care to hear about things that don't pertain to the sale of or purchase of the item. If someone is really interested in helping the poster understand the market value of an item, you can always use the PM feature that's available.

The way I see it, the following type of comments would NOT be allowed because they BUMP AN AD FOR NO USEFUL PURPOSE:

"Hey, I love your avatar!"
"Man, I wish they were metric!"
"SK wrenches rule!"
"I can get those for cheaper at Sears"

1 fo the 4 for sure as it violates current policy.

Probably means like in this thread, http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=63285 which I am guilty of being a part of. However, I was provoked by another member after offering to sell something after seeing the original post. I thought my original "i have this at this price" post was OK.

I'll probably never again post here after this one, too much trouble to take pictures, post them, then get ignored, then attacked by someone else that feels it is their duty to beat me down.

I sell stuff here weekly and have never had any issues, Generally NO INTEREST in your thread means you have your stuff priced too high.

I've always thought most WTB threads were worthless to begin with. Hell, pay attention to what's for sale, and you'll find what you're looking for. Only if it's something to complete a set or an oddball socket or something like they are they ever worth a darn. A lot of times it's someone too damn lazy to just comb the 'for sale' ads.

That's the problem, it wasn't my thread, Hiball. I only offered a reply to the original poster, and got attacked in the process from someone else who had no reason to comment, other than to be condescending to me.

Is "attack" the correct word, or is this hyperbole?

I don't think so; but, we are waiting for Ryan to come back and clarify his desires so that we can all toe the line.

The only reply in a classified add should be I will take it. All other requests and information needed should be done through the PM funtion.

The classifieds get all cluttered up with alot of non necessary BS.

I don't understand what's so difficult about all of this. If someone has an add for an item, and you don't want it, don't reply. Just pass it by. It's quite simple: if you go in sears and you see a tool that's a bargain, you buy it. If it isn't a deal, do you go an yell at the manager because it's cheaper somewhere else? No. You go where it's cheaper and buy it. If you've spent time posting pictures, that's something you've chosen to do. If someone posts something you may be interested in and they don't have a picture, simply ask them if they can send you a picture.
There's no need to "dog" someone because they don't have the cheapest price or pictures posted. Simply, pass by that add/post and move onto another one. If there's something you are interested and wonder if the person will come down in price, simply ask them, "I'd like to buy this, would you be willing to come down in price?"
But, I keep seeing these more and more "hateful" responses to things on this site. For instance, a fellow went to the "trouble" to post pictures of something he/she wanted to sell. When he/she didn't get a reply, he/she became REALLY pissed off.
"I went to the trouble to take pictures, also. Not even a reply. I figured maybe he would make me an offer. I'll go crawl back in a hole elsewhere, I suppose. I love getting trounced by someone when I start posting on a forum, especially when it isn't even their thread. THANKYOU FOR SETTING ME STRAIGHT, SHERIFF, YOU CAN HAVE YOUR OWN TOWN BACK, EVERYTHING IS CODE 4 NOW.
I don't think there's any reason for someone to get so upset over a site that exists to share information and answer each others questions about cars, tools, ect. Yeah, lots of us are buying or selling tools. But, at the risk of sounding completely cheezy--- why can't we all just get along? For god's sake, I'm sure anger could be redirected to a better cause then bickering with each other. come on, now--- there's plenty of politicians, neighboors, cops, bosses, and clients to get mad at--- we should be a group that trancends beyond all that! cheers, bird

+1
If you put a WTB thread you should put a price in at which you are committed to buy it if someone finds it, just like the sellers have to. only fair.

Just so you will know, Bird, I didn't get really PISSED OFF at the guy for not replying to my offer. I GOT REALLY PISSED OFF at the guy who felt it was his prerogative to talk condescending to me because of my comment about being ignored. That's why I wrote what I did. It had nothing to do with being mad at the original poster. I felt the guy that was directing his condescending remarks needed to be reminded it was not his place.

Could someone cancel my membership on this forum. Maybe I don't need to be here. Bunch of freakin' sore asses over something they don't even understand.

This is a Free Membership Forum, I suspect if you want to leave all you have to do is not show up. This is a great place for info and its strength is its membership, If you feel this isnt the place for you... Well its your decision i suppose.

Two questions:

1. How about the ads that say "post a PM on the thread first, then PM me for details."? These can be seen to unnecessarily bump an ad. I like these though, because it's clear for all to see who gets dibs first, who is second etc.

2. I like a bit of banter. Though just like lipstick and perfume, too much of a good thing is just too much, but nothing is also boring. I posted what I thought was humerous comment on one classified ad, and got a chuckling response from the seller. Yes, it unnecessarily bumped the ad. But I agree with the sterile comment. If all classified posts become "just the facts, ma'am" it gets very boring. I spend time here because it's educational, but also fun. I also see what sort of interest there is for various brands and items, when you get the plaintive wails from several people who missed out.

I hope we get clarification and details on what is allowed soon.

I think it was the right thing to do. There is nothing wrong with mentioning that it is available cheaper without insulting the seller. Facts are facts

If I'm the seller and that happened to me, well, I would actually be glad someone let me know what I was up against selling wise, and I would lower my price as a result.
