Noobie Looking For Information On Remline Chest

Hey Guys,

So I recently inherited these tool boxes and when I started googling for information, this forum came up. This place is great! I've been missing out. After going through over 100 pages in the Vintage Toolboxes thread, I decided I couldn't wait to get these boxes home to find out more about them.

These boxes and tools belong to my grandfather who was a mechanic for a local power company. I'm not sure if these were his actual boxes he worked out of or just a set he had at the house but I'm happy to have them. My uncle inherited them when he passed and everything just sat in his basement. My uncle has passed away so we're cleaning out his house. The boxes are a mess and there's some water damage but nothing that can't be fixed. I plan on taking them home in the next few weeks and plan on cleaning them and the tools up.

I know the pictures aren't great (there was a BUNCH of stuff preventing me from fully getting close) but I'm curious to know the years on the Remline boxes. The one box is on top of a 3 drawer Snap On box which is on top of a wood cabinet with drawers. That box looks pretty common based off of what I've seen here. The bottom box is the one that I can find any information on as I haven't seen any others with the 2 drawers on the bottom.

Any information would be appreciated. I will try to take better pictures as well.

Thank you,

Paul

BP: it looks like you have a great Remline top and bottom box combo that i'd be happy to own and especially if it was my gramp's. clean them up with simple green or even WD 40 on a rag and put them to use. i'd sell the snap on middle box if I didn't have a place for it on my workbench and buy a few tools or keep it if you like it.

that rolling combo is maybe in my top 5 favorites of old vintage boxes. please clean them up and take a lot more pictures and post on the vintage toolbox thread where they will get a lot more views and comments.

sorry to hear your grand dad passed because he sounds like he was a handy and a good man.

I've got the same black logo with the silver stripe on my Remline boxes. That mostly black logo is out of the late 60s early 70s as I recall. The older logo (the little man logo, which I'm attaching) is earlier. In this case 1966. It looks like your bottom box might have this logo. According to the little man's logo, the box is made by the Advertising Metal Display Company of Chicago. This turns out to have been the same company that made the older Craftsman boxes. The little man logo can be seen in the door pulls of your box. These red/orange and black/grey boxes were also sold by Montgomery Wards under their Power Kraft brand. Look at the inside of the drawer with the logo and see if you can find a date stamp where the logo is on the drawer.

+1 that your inherited RemLine toolboxes are Lifetime Keepers !!
Clean them up and use them.

Use Google to dig deep within GJ to find all the threads on RemLine. There are bunch of threads so you'll have lots of reading. Be sure to post up nice pictures in the "Show Your Remline" thread once you've got them cleaned up.
