Man I love the build! Fine job sir!

The doors look great SF, as does the barn (in the 2nd pic).

I don't mind the '54 Chevy in the driveway either...or the F truck behind it...or the Inter parked near the house...:drool::drool:

Thanks guys! I had to take the '54 out with this nice weather. I don't like to see running vehicles sit too long. I'm really wanting to be done with this barn and start working on the truck projects. But I'm trying to be good and focus.

SF: sounds like you have a plan, but don't forget to ask questions if you have any as your following is growing on your build. we just might have the answers or just made that mistake ourselves.

looking great as per usual and remember to take lots of pictures of all sides and insides as you have time even if you can't post them until later. we all are LOVING your build.

any idea of the cost to build it so far? seems like you are doing a lot of the work or are you hiring or borrowing friends and relatives as they can help?

Got the other door rail up so I can open and shut the big doors. Some adjustments will be needed to get the doors to hang straight and close with no gap. But good enough for now...time to get back on the siding.

GREAT looking build...love it - as others have said - nice job sir!!

My contractor and I were discussing a viable option to keep critters out too. I am going to have a barn door/slider installed at the entrance of the apartment from the shop. Granted, this will all be the inside portion of the pole barn, but critters & bugs will eventually try to make their way in. I still have to do the research, but was thinking a bristle type strip for my application - maybe 1/2 wide brush/bristle type material the would be installed around the perimeter of the door.

Anxious to see more of your build is at progresses. Fantastic!!

SF: i'm not sure if i can survive only get a picture every few days or weeks of your awesome garage so asking (begging) for more when you get a chance.

just curious since the siding on the sides is getting some mud splashed up on it are you planning on putting gravel down or planting grass later?

doors look AWESOME. nice job

I don't recall seeing that coupe in there before SF. :dunno:

Early '50s Chevy?

It looks like you've got the siding finished and done a bit of landscaping in front of the door too.

hope you are in good health and maybe just too busy to take pictures and post them.

Phase I of barn is complete. I received OK on final inspection last week. Now I get to pay taxes on it forever. :(

With those high windows, I really don't need any artificial lighting during the day. It's amazing how much light gets in. I can work on projects and only need to shine a light if I'm looking from below.

Phase II for barn is to Get solar panels, inverter, and battery pack installed. This will probably not happen until this winter as I have too many other summer projects to finish.

Speaking of projects, I have too many. I think some of the Fords are going up for sale.

Current Project is this. 2005 Dodge Dakota that was totaled but frame is straight and everything still works. Nice 4x4 with 4.7L V8. We (my daughter and I) have it almost striped and are going to shorten the frame and then put on the red '53 international body.

The nice thing about the 2005 dakota is the wheel bolt pattern is 5 x 5-1/2" so I have tons of after market wheel choices. I'm thinking I'll go with 6x17" steelies from Wheel Vintiques and some BF Goodrich LT225/75R16, All-Terrain T/A KO2. This will give me a 30" tire that's tall and skinny, for the look I'm going for to match the old IH truck. The bonus is the dakota track width with those wheels/tires is same (within an inch) of the original '53 IH, so no messing with wheel spacers or having the wheels sticking too far out.

I haven't. Thanks so much for sending the link. My international floor is toast anyway, so using the dakota floor/firewall is something to consider. I'm not crazy about using any of the dakota interior parts. I'd like to retain the IH steering column and gauges and bench seat. No hint that something else is under the covers. Since I'm going for the lifted 4x4 look, I shouldn't need to open up the fenders or even change the bed floor height. (Not sure about that last part...need to do some measuring). But regardless, thanks again for sending the link as it's comforting to see it's been done before.

I also have this project up next: '54 IH longbed slammed on a '90 extra-cab dakota. I like this one because the 90 dakota bolt pattern is 5 x 4-1/2", same as '54 IH, so I can use IH wheels. And dropped spindles are available for the 90 dakota. The patina on this '54 IH is killer.

I'll use a SBC+2004r rather than using the dakota v6/auto.

I'm still here. No updates really other than leveling out the ground around the building and seeding with grass. I switched my focus to finishing out my shop (different building from this barn) so I could work on some of these old rusty projects. And then I decided we needed a camper so we bought a Ford Transit van and turning it into one of those stealth campers you see running up and down I-5. I'm having trouble running the pop() function on my project stack. Seems to keep growing due to self-inflicted push()s.

The barn has been great. No leaks this nasty wet Winter/Spring.

If you didn't have any leaks or other water issues after this last winter, then you likely never will. Very wet year from all reports.

Good to hear from you.

SF: since your shop/garage/barn is still one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE BUILDS might i suggest you just keep posting your side projects on this thread so we ALL can see it more often. even Jack of the 12 Gauge Garage who's one of the guys that always like a thread to stay on track puts other projects and his activities on his thread (stained his deck last week, built a playhouse for his kid(s), and talks about his Porsche 911 a lot. just saying you have a lot to offer besides just a garage build so if you'd like to just keep posting your projects i'm sure more than just me would love to see them.

who wouldn't want to see you rehab one of those cool trucks or that new bus/RV?

post up pictures as you have time of anything and everything you like that you think might be useful to some of us not nearly as handy as you are. also any more pictures of your barn/shop/garage to show how it's aging would be great if you have time to take some and post them.

thanks in advance

I really like your trucks. Any update on the 54 IH you referenced last July would be of interest.

Hi MacTexas,

Sadly, no updates on the '54 IH. But, I'm delivering this '53 to my Dad in Granbury TX, of all places. It's an old Atomic Energy Commission truck from Washington state. You can still make out the "Atomic Energy Commission" lettering on the doors. We redid all of the brakes/lines/master. Had the head rebuilt. Runs good but we shut it down because the carb is leaking. Luckily I had a carb rebuild kit, so we'll get that on when its in TX. New Wheel Vintiques wheels with new Firestone 215/75r15 tires. Refurbished the gas tank, installed new lines.

What a small world. When I see it on the road I will wave.
