Hi,
If you remember I made a barrier in my garage on the floor, because in winter snow melts, and water runs under a table. The barrier was plastic, it was broken in summer, yesterday it snowed and my garage was full of water( Today I removed plastic and glued ceramic tiles. Tonight we will see what it will be like.

Nice one.

I take it that him saying thank you in the end means he was happy.

Hello everyone! I haven’t written for a long time. This time I would like to start with that, there is no place for cars in my garage. All the space is occupied by me. It is time to expand.
I have decided to set up a lock-up garage (which will be 7*10 metres with the ceiling height of 4.5 metres). As I have got little money, but I want to have a lot, the basic structure is going to be of metal pipe with roof truss covering it. It was calculated by a project designer. Now I am on the level of marking my yard: I have cleaned the area. The next week I am going to do away with ground coat, to hole pits for cement piles.

Before:

After:

I will be describing the budget. Now metal for the basic structure and the project are payed.

Metal - 130 000 rub / 2000$
Project – 2000 rub / 31$

result 132 000 rub / 2031$

The dollar rate (to rouble) is 1/65

Today I have brought the ground to uniform surface. We have made pits of 2m depth - that will be piled foundation where i a going to pour concrete with reinforcement into i all the weight will be supported by them. The ground coat of our region freezes to a depth of 1.8 m, that is why it was decided to make a depth of 2 m. Now we need to deliver sand in order to raise the grade of the future floor.

Grizz1963 follows, I believe.

Looks like you have a solid plan. Awaiting the progress reports. Did the building behind yours get the proper permits to finish it?

Thanks!
I asked for permission to build only 1 neighbour, who leaves next door to me. It is not necessary, i did it only because of my politeness. As my building is separable and skeletonized, it is not a construction which must be obligatory registered. That is why i have made such a choice.

Hello,
As I have a pain in my back, my construction project is going slowly.
After taking off the layer of soil, I dropped off the sand at the yard.

iKwws8VcMPM.jpg

Anyway, everything was not ok. The lorry with sand couldn’t enter into the yard because the passage is very narrow for it. That is why we had to unload 20 cubic meters behind the yard, on the left of the yellow building. After disassembling a half of the fence, a tractor transported the sand to the yard and floated it.

Then my friends came to help me. We rented a plate ********. After damping the sand we rammed everything.

I will prime the floor and columns together. Why? I will tell you later.

Hello everyone,
My construction work is going really slowly. Firstly, I am doing it alone, secondly, I have a backache, thirdly, the weather conditions are awful – almost 38 dergrees. That is why I work at night.
I have made timbering and began to lay heat insulation material. Also I have faced with a problem, which I haven’t solved yet. So, when I underpour, I want to use a screed rail. I know that screeds are needed for the floor to be smooth. The question is what can be used as a screed, what is the screed made of and how to fix it if the sand is under it? May be someone of you has made it and know the secret?

P.S. I have surfed other threads and haven’t found the answer, even no pictures to help me.

Most screeds are made from a very straight 2 X 4, or 2 X 6. Make sure it is a few inches longer then the concrete form. Once the concrete is poured and you have it all smoothed as you can get it, and vibrated (if you use one). You and a helper will put the 2 X 4 or 2 X 6 on top of the form and start sliding it back and forth. This will smooth the wet concrete and you will see any spots that are low and needs more, and it pushes the extra on down towards the END. You might have to do this procedure several times, until you get the concrete looking the way you want it. By working the screed board back and forth it also brings up the (cream) of the concrete. (cream) is just the soupy, wet, watery part of the concrete that sits at the bottom of the concrete. When moving the screed and pulling it toward the end and sometimes you pickup the screed and move it back about a foot (12") and pull it forward again. Its just manual labor, easy to do and you will catch on really fast. It helps to have a couple extra people when doing this. One person on the other end of the screed stick, and one to help add concrete if needed, or remove concrete if there is too much.
Hope this helps you out!:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Thank you for the advice
How to make a guiding rail for the screed?

I tried to make it from osb, but I dont like its stiffness.

If you don't have a board that reaches all the way across, temporarily stake a form board at whatever point your board reaches across. Maybe even a couple of form boards. Once the concrete is screeded, remove the temporary boards and fill the void left by the board. You could also pour the floor in 3 sections, pour and screed two outside sections, remove the inside forms and pour the center section.

For me, this is about as big a section as I can do -- with one helper (but that's not me in the picture). I'm just thinking about your aching back.

Today was a tough day. Today metal (4.5 tonnes) was delivered. I asked my friends to help me. As i was occupied by unloading, i could make only one pic. The metal was unloaded just in front of my garage. The length was 12 meters. I marked it and cut. We had to carry some separate parts to the yard at the construction site. Now i have a feeling that i won't be able to get up tomorrow.

i have a lot to do before pouring the floor. After yesterday rainfall two holes for tilts fell down. The depth was 2.3 m, but now it is 1.6 which is really shall. I have to think how to excavate. I brought metal mesh and settled insulation. But then it poured down again and i couldn't finish.

Uncooperative weather always makes construction a pain. Is the slab going to float between the pillars for the posts? With your cold winters, how will you keep the slab from heaving up and cracking, or is that what the insulation is for? Looks interesting. Thanks for the pics!

I would definitely recommend another person to help with the screeding process. You only have a finite window of time to work the concrete and it can take a long time if you are by yourself on a job this big, especially if you want it to turn out smooth and strong on the surface. Reference Bob Heine's pic again!

Hello every one, for the last 2 weeks many things have changed. Hello every one, for the last 2 weeks many things have changed. I decided to order reinforcement for those money. I put it spaced at intervals of 400 mm. Then i bought plastic buffers for it. I made a lead for pouring from a plain bar. I stemmed pieces of reinforcement into the sand of 10 cm depth, put a plain bar on it and welded. So i leveled the floor using them when i was concreting. A concrete pumper was late for 15 minutes and a mixer-machine was waiting for it. I ordered 8.5 cubic meters of concrete.

sYsVa2R-x5E.jpg

When we finished we run short of 0.5 cubic meters. So we started to work by-hand: we leveled everything very quickly and mixed concrete. Then we poured it over. When we started using a concrete finishing machine it didn't work.
We went to change it. But when we came back concrete was hardened. We rubbed it on top, but i dont worry about it, because i appreciate my experience.
So today is the 4th day after concreting, 3 more days and i will start to weld truss. At the moment I am making structural addition over our front door. It will protect us from snow and rain

Hi rick. I am sorry for keeping you waiting. I dont have time at all. Yes, the slab will float between the pillars. They are not connected. In order not to make it crack i will cut it for thermal extension. We need insulant to warm our feet during winter. We were concreting with one helper. Thank you for the advice)

hi everyone,
a month since my last post here) that's a shame!
So, I concreted the floor, my daughter was happy.

OoVA_yIujss.jpg

In a week we cut concrete in squares in order there were no cracks. Then while concrete was solidifying i was welding trusses.

jh5ilZSyPUk.jpg

As autumn has come here, it often rains. It is difficult to weld in such conditions but difficulties make us stronger)

When everything was ready, we called for crane. It was pretty small that is why it could enter the yard without any problem. We worked at night as usual because it doesn't rain, but it is dark) The operator of the crane (His name is Max) knew us long enough. He has got a lorry also. He brought us our turning machine and engines. He helped us a lot when he put trusses for us. We put them together with columns.

So the structure was almost ready. Why did transversal pipes stick out? They were bought to order directly from the factory. The length was 11.75 meters, the length of my box is 10 metres. There wasn't a pipe and i decided to weld it from the pipe remains what helped me to economize 8000 rub (125$)

Then we put OSB, then heat-insulation material, and covered with steel sheet. that's all for now.
