You know the old jokes that start with "How many guys does it take to . . . ?"
You'd need two 3' long handles on that thing to turn it with two guys.

Does Harbor Freight carry one similar, but not too expensive? (nuyk, nyuk, nyuk.)

There's a local hydraulic shop that I go to on occasion for misc parts. They have a hydraulic tapping arm that will do ~2.5" with ease. Extremely impressive to watch as it goes through like nothing.

I'm more impressed that he slit that in one shot. Got to love a job shop where old technology is the best way to get it done.

I'll have to check how large it goes when I get home but I have a pretty large tap handle as well that I got at auction some time ago. It's maybe 22" long? I don't know that it's quite that beefy but it's bigger than I'll probably ever need!

The dude works on trains?? :dunno: That's quite the setup.

His day job is hydraulic cylinder repair IIRC. That's at his personal family shop, a job shop. Very talented, skilled and intelligent individual.

Years ago, I had to thread 1 1/2" rods, must have done 12" on each one and did it by hand, that was a workout! I think there were 6 rods, but they were galvanized and welded in a "u" shape, so you couldn't put them in a lathe.

There is a keyway along the arbor that engages in the cutters.

Classic case of "don't judge a book by its cover". He does not look like "the sharpest tool in the shed", but when it comes to machining HE IS !

Kinda like some of the folks on here that seem to own everything under the sun, yet don't know diddly.

He's a real machinist with real machines out to make a business and willing to pass along knowledge.
