Just a little update while the trailer is in Winter storage. Last year I had to pump up the rear tires before going on the True Street cruise. The meeting prior and the cruise came back to back. I had to have a buddy air up my tires as I (& his son) went to the meeting).

The current compressor is a tad bit smaller 2 gallon unit and I decided to upgrade to something a little larger. I picked up this Bostich 6 gallon pancake unit from Menards.


I plan on leaving it in the cabinet and possibly a short hose with bulkhead fitting on the countertop.

Time for some updates.

The above compressor has been working awesome. I have made a longer extension cord to plug it in so it doesn't move and can connect the air hose right to it

During the last couple of track outings, I'll give it a thumbs up. The Honda 2000 Genny runs it fine.

Going to be installing a winch soon. The plan is going to be an in floor install. We'll see.

After a grill or LP tank issue at the track Saturday, it's time to upgrade.

A new grill.


Moving up to a 30lb cylinder. I'll have to weld a ring on the bottom of this tank like I did the current 20lb tank.



Menards rebates paid for both of these.

It gets hot at the track and without an AC unit on the roof, uncomfortable at times. There's also a bug issue with lights and night time.

My resolution was some screen over the doors. I started with a garage door screen kit from HF. Some Command hooks and PVC pipe.


First off was cutting the screen in half. There's a fabricated separation in the screen. Then simply mount the Command hooks above the doors.

I painted the PVC black so it wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb. I utilized the provided grommeted holes to screw the pipe to the screen.
In the area where the roll up straps are, I screwed through the webbing.




The side door used smaller hooks on the wall. I also doubled up the screen on the back side instead of cutting it down.

Between blocking the bugs, allowing ventilation through the doors, it also helps to break up the sunlight coming in. I could, if needed, weight down the screens but they do blow in the wind. During the day, it's not an issue. At night, haven't had to worry about it yet.

Total cost was about $60-65.

I have a small pouch that I will keep the regulator in when in storage. Hopefully it'll protect it from bouncing around.

I like the screen idea Eric.

I didn't have anything on my newer race trailer but on our older one I used some old clear slats from some of our hi-speed cooler doors at work to use in the doorway for when we were snowmobiling. It worked well to keep the heat in/cold out but it sucked going in and out through them. I always figured I would fabricate some kind of screen door for the new trailer when we bought it in 2008 but never did.

Yours looks like it will work perfectly. Great job.

Thanks Mike, I appreciate the compliment. They did work quite well for a quick fix.

New grill put in the trailer. This grill is a bit bigger than the older Char-broil we had. So, out went one of the extra fuel jugs.

Since the grill was done, it was time to move on to the 30 lb LP tank. I cut a piece of 14 ga and started to bend it in a circle. As I don't have a roller, I slowly worked it and clamped it in place.


Having the paint ground down and clamped in place, I could start welding it. Keep in mind, I'm not actually welding the tank itself. I'm doing the same thing I did to the previous 20lb tank.

All welding, wire brushed and cleaned. Ready for primer and paint.


No finished pics. It got paint after supper and just before a guy came to pick up a military cabinet I sold on FBMP.

What are you using for your air line plumbing? It looks pretty good.

It's part of the tank mount on the front of the trailer.

It drops down in the mount and is cross pinned.

How long have you used the iron pipe? Any internal moisture rust issues that you’ve noticed?

Oh man..... I'd have to go back to the beginning of my Garage Refurb thread and see when I pulled out the PVC airlines and replaced them. I would guess 2012, give or take a year.


No real issues.. I don't keep the system charged all the time so the compressor isn't constantly running. It runs the most, probably in the winter, when the air is dry and the wood burner fired up

They are 1/2" pipe and the compressor runs at 175 psi.

EDIT:

@DAVE94LIGHTNING I went back and looked. It appears that Jan '13 is when I started on the new air lines.

My thoughts as well Mike.

I decided to forego the clear top coat as I'll take it back to assist in paying for the second 2.5 car kit. I was leery of using a clear on it since the trailer will probably flex somewhat going down the road. I thought it might crack/shatter the clear coat and look like **** anyways.

Several years later....

While we were cleaning the trailer out, I might just say "cleaning". I did notice the trailer ramp door has a bit of yellowing going on.

There is a distinct line where the flap covers the lower section of the door.

Picked up some steel yesterday.

I started with a layout plan on my work table and transferred the measurements to paper. To the addition I went and laid it out on the steel. Then came time to plasma cut.

Not sure and wasn't really worried about it. It'll be sitting up higher than what the spare tire well does.

Well, I'm pretty sure it will be. I didn't actually measure the well depth but I can easily double check.

I'll be climbing under the trailer probably first of the week once a I get the winch bucket tacked together. Not a big deal to measure it, I will have a tape in my hand.

Well to be honest, I'll probably have to climb back out from underneath it to grab the tape because that's "my luck."

Here's the spare tire well.



The winch bucket will be less than 8" hanging down. The spare tire well at about 11 inches is still above the axles.

I ground all the edges clean or at least close enough because nobody will ever see it under the trailer.



Then I began to assemble all the pieces, rack welding as I went.

After tack welding, I set the winch inside for a quick mock up.




I need to get a different roller fairlead than what comes with the winch.

Being 1/8" (11ga), I tried to move around and not put too much heat in any one spot.

Outside all welded up.

I had a guy come over and buy the portable welding table that I used prior to building this table.

Tonight, I am going to try and finish the inside welding unless I run out of wire. I believe I have a second spool.

Finally getting back in the winch bucket. I centered the winch and tried to make sure it was centered I drilled the holes

I added some 3/8 flat bar as reinforcement. I'm hoping once it is all welded together, it'll be heavy duty enough.

Last time I bought wire was after having an issue. So I bought 2 different spools. I just finished the Blue Demon, no complaints. This is a spool of INE, I believe from Spain. I ordered both off The Jungle.


Correction: Made in Italy.





So far, no complaints.

Back is welded along with the other end. After lunch, I will be mowing and coming back out to weld the top side of the bucket.

I went back out after lunch and realized something.... something that I forgot about. That 2" flat bar was bent and I welded it in bent.
