I ordered a set a few days ago. I have started using more impact tools and only have deep 1/2-inch impact sockets, plus a small set of short Makita sockets for use with a 1/4-inch hex shaft.

I'll update with what I think of them. I am just an occasional home mechanic, so I can't justify the tool-truck stuff, as much as I prefer to buy American-made tools.

Who else received this set? I received mine yesterday and I was not impressed.

1 The foam tray is already dirty with oil. Dark brown oil residual on neon green foam is not attractive.

2 Some of the sockets stuck to the green foam. When I pulled them out, I pulled out pieces of the green foam. This is horrible.

3 The finish is not smooth like previous Craftsman impact sockets. It is quite coarse, like Craftsman Evolve.

4 It is apparent that some sockets of different sizes are made from the same raw block of steel. For example, 15 mm and 16mm short ones are exactly the same OD. Therefore, the 15mm one has much thicker walls. This is not pretty.

5 A couple of small ones have off-center socket holes. 8mm deep wall is pretty back. Part of the wall is a lot thicker than others.

Anyone has similar issues? I bought a very large 36mm deep wall OEM Tools impact socket before and I liked it. So I bought this set. However, I am a bit disappointed TBH.

When I did my research on this set, many complained the same.
Over all, $50 for 42 pieces is not a bad deal, it just wasn’t going to be pretty.

In the end, I went with Gearwrench metrics set instead.

I took out my 1/2 inch GearWrench shallow impact socket tonight and compared them closely with the OME Tools 3/8 impact set. I definitely see that the GW socket set is superior in every aspects.

1 Finish, nice smooth finish with oil film. GW set has a nice hard plastic case. So the oil won't mess up some soft neon foam tray.

2 Both laser etched and roll stamped. The OME tools sockets are not laser etched. But its roll stamping is pretty nice. So we can have a tie here.

3 The GW set is from 8mm to 19mm. Each socket has the hole dead in the center. The thickness is the same around all 6 sides.

4 Each GW socket are of different OD. Clearly, they are all made specifically for each size. Unlike OME Tools trying to cut corners.

All the 12 GW sockets are well made, I looked at them closely and I cannot find any manufacturing defects or design flaws. Best part yet, the GW set I got from Amazon on sale for $26. Sure, my GW set is made in China and the OEM Tools is made in Taiwan. But those who say Taiwan tools always beat China tools can go each sh*t. Whoever says that has no credibility at all. I am sending the OEM Tools back to Woot. No more OEM Tools online purchase from now on.

Off center hole for 8mm deep. 9mm is also slightly off center. A bit harder to see. Also notice how thick is the wall of 8mm short.20210410_171542.jpg

I tried to contact both woot and oem tools, nobody replied. Thumbs down on both. Will stay away from them.
