When I did my research on this set, many complained the same.
Over all, $50 for 42 pieces is not a bad deal, it just wasn’t going to be pretty.
In the end, I went with Gearwrench metrics set instead.
I took out my 1/2 inch GearWrench shallow impact socket tonight and compared them closely with the OME Tools 3/8 impact set. I definitely see that the GW socket set is superior in every aspects.
1 Finish, nice smooth finish with oil film. GW set has a nice hard plastic case. So the oil won't mess up some soft neon foam tray.
2 Both laser etched and roll stamped. The OME tools sockets are not laser etched. But its roll stamping is pretty nice. So we can have a tie here.
3 The GW set is from 8mm to 19mm. Each socket has the hole dead in the center. The thickness is the same around all 6 sides.
4 Each GW socket are of different OD. Clearly, they are all made specifically for each size. Unlike OME Tools trying to cut corners.
All the 12 GW sockets are well made, I looked at them closely and I cannot find any manufacturing defects or design flaws. Best part yet, the GW set I got from Amazon on sale for $26. Sure, my GW set is made in China and the OEM Tools is made in Taiwan. But those who say Taiwan tools always beat China tools can go each sh*t. Whoever says that has no credibility at all. I am sending the OEM Tools back to Woot. No more OEM Tools online purchase from now on.
