Is there such a thing as a premium -- off brand for batteries? I'm trying to keep some little used tools going.

Have a very old set of Dewalt tools that use the 18v XBR battery -- the batteries are getting weak. The only one I really use is the hammer drill. I have a dril and impact set from Mikita that's much smaller and lite. The Dewalt flashlight is obsolete at this point and the jig saw and circular saw come in handy ... say ...once a year. Previous I have been able to get a two pack of the real batteries for around $90. They last 4 or 5 years ... have bought at least 2 sets at this point. Looks like the two real are now around $120 now.

I also have a right angle 12v drill that comes in handy a couple times a year - batteries are working but at 4 years old. Not for long . So I need them as well and I did buy off brand for that back in 16 -- but the store is gone. They came with a guarantee.

Some of the off brand are really cheap...

They increased in price. I got a pair of the real Dewalts for $100.00 at Amazon.
Too many 18 volt tools to switch.

I have bought off brand batteries for other devices... with mixed results. The cheapest ones from eBay were bad... and they even weighed significantly less than the originals. But I have had some good luck with some "name-brand" replacements: I mean known reputable companies that label and sell replacement batteries.
So my advice would be to consider the seller and the manufacturer, and base your decision on that. I would suspect that the very cheapest stuff was probably not very good. It easy to label a bad battery with a higher AH rating.

I would get a battery rebuilt before buying an unknown aftermarket one. Been burned too many time with garbage

I bought one of the cheap ones for my 12 Volt Dewalt drill and I might as well have thrown the $20 in the toilet :( I ended up spending $120 for two oem ones.

I bought a couple of cheaper ones on amazon. I don’t remember what he name, but they are red and black instead of yellow and black. They are lighter than OEM and do not last as long per charge, but do seem to have the same power. I took a chance to keep my tools alive long enough to figure out if I wanted to reinvent in them or not. $120 for 4 years is $30 a year. As much as I use mine that is a sound investment.
