Oil Change Glove?

I'm looking for a particular glove I saw on TV a while ago, I think it was on 'powerblock' on spike TV, where they were looking at pro mechanic's tools at a trade show

It was for changing oil or other auto fluids, the glove literally had an embedded cup on the forearm that went all the way around the forearm to catch fluids before they ran all the way down your arm.

I don't remember what it was called and can't find a similar product.

Anyone know what it is called?

Thanks,

You can buy 1000 nitrile gloves for less money than one pair of the Pit Stop Gloves... :headscrat

You could also buy about (8) 25oz bags of Gummy Bears for the price of the Pit Stop glove. What's your point? Neither nitrile gloves nor gummy bears prevent oil from spilling down your arm.

At least you can eat the gummies...

You could try the put a plastic bag under it and loosen the bolt / oil filter through the bag trick. I've seen a lot of people say it works great. When I tried it on my oil filter it was a disaster but who knows.

Umm, how bout a drain valve instead of a bolt? Don't worry, I take checks..

Or there's alway the otc drain plug pro for less than the ONE glove I assume that listing is for.

$21 shipped - OTC Tools 5911A Drain Plug Pro Magnetic Remover https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MSJEBBO/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Neither does a mini porta potty wrapped around your wrist.

Man up, roll up your sleeves, and leave the gummy bears to the kids working on their big wheels.

If you own a pre-2004 Land Rover, this thread just really, really pissed you off.

I never knew such a thing existed.

Or the old fashioned method of some practice and a rag?

I change oil on a bunch of cars and never need more than the basic stuff.

This is actually for real?

It's like the "collar of shame" the vet puts on dogs after they've been fixed for your hand.
It would become the "gloved bowl of shame" if one of my friends saw it in my garage.

I wonder if they make a left handed version so you could wear the thing on both hands?:D

If you own a pre 2004 land rover i'm sure you'll have other things on your mind other than spilling a bit of oil down your arm, such as the seals leaking, electrics dying, body rusting to death, crippling seats etc...

I wear normal nitrile gloves for an oil change, get the pan under the filter, loosen, allow to drain for a bit, then remove when it stops flowing.

a fumoto valve won't help with a can filter that is upside down though.

for the filter i loosen it a couple turn real fast till oil runs down it, let it sit and drain a few minutes, then spin it the rest of the way off and flip it into the container. not rocket science.

I can't count the number of quarts of oil I change in a year, few thousand maybe? Might get this for my boss and hand it to him next time he asks me for a shop towel if hes under a truck

No for real tho, I don't always wear gloves and am pretty fine with the oil (dex/motor oil) on my arm as long as its not 80-90, prolonging this as its a career, is this bad? Maybe my skins ganna hate me D:

Pop a screwdriver into it and drain the filter first, takes 10 seconds.

I like to get oil all over me and the driveway.

It's proof to the wife that I did the job! Sometimes I'll smudge some on my cheek.

Oil's gonna drip from the cross-member, where it spilled, anyway.

Used motor oil is carcinogenic. You don’t want it on your skin if at all possible.

This is also what I do. I never considered a special tool for the job.

Poke a hole and drain the filter and what is above BEFORE loosening it... then loosen and spin it off... the pitstop glove won't do much for filters that are not vertical, horizontal and angled will still just run down the side of the block!

So I dunno about you guys but the first time I got soaked in oil because my filter was mounted in the worst place ever, I went and bought a sandwich plate and relocated my oil filter to the frame rail. Its now mounted at 90* so I can just unscrew it and it doesn't spill a drop. This allows me to completely prefill the new oil filter every time I change the oil. Also I can use a bigger filter. Also I picked up a ton of capacity in my oil system.

I still wear some disposable gloves when I change the oil but the messy part is now removing the plug, which if I'm careful enough and do it right, I don't get almost any oil on my gloves at all.
