Oil drain tanks

Anybody know where I can get the best metal oil drain tank with telescoping pan for about $150 or less? I've shopped online and there seems to be a very common one (made in China, I assume) for about $130.

I thought I'd post here to see if there was a better option before I pulled the trigger on the Chinese tank.

I have no problems buying a used one but the local Craigslist has none.

Nicer than that. The HF dealie is very flimsy. The tube is plastic held in place with wing nuts and the catch basin is plastic, too. Drop your oil filter into it and you could easily break it.

I was trying to get something mostly metal.

Mine isn't plastic. For the price, it's hard to beat, but if you want to spend that kind of money to drain your oil, feel free.

Here is a link to some "higher quality" units:

That second Harbor Freight one is all over the web. If it's a solid unit, that's prolly what I'll wind up with. The first one referenced has a metal tank but plastic drain pan--so I know I'd drop the first filter into it and break it (my luck).

I don't want to spend $300 or $400 on one of these--I just wanted to know if there was one that alot of people were happy with that was mostly metal.

Mine has the metal funnel and extends plenty far to be compatible with my rotary lift, it also has the debris screen in the funnel, all in all worth the money

I wound up finding a really nice used John Dow 20 gallon collection unit from a seller on Craigslist. The unit I bought sells for close to 400 new and I picked it up for 80 bucks.

This thread (which I started when I first started looking for one) may be helpful as well:

I think the one that Harbor Frieght carries is the same one that Northern, Tractor Supply and even Eastwood's carries. I'd just look to see who has the best price or sale.

These are the real deal from Lisle. Heavily made and I doubt you'll break it .
http://www.lislecorp.com/divisions/categories/browse.cfm?division=3&category=21&page=1

They are Plastic but tough and thick.Designed for Pro use. This oil drain has been around for a few decades. Originally T-Allen Products but Lisle has made them for many years. It was always tough injection molded plastic and made in USA. Hopefully still is.
Nice thing is that Lisle is very good at parts /warr.support down the line should you have a problem.

I use a 45 gal drum on wheels. I empty ALL my waste into it (oil, antifreeze, thinner), then take it to JiffyLube when full. They empty it for free.

e-tek, are you saying you mix waste oil with used AF, thinner, etc??? They don't like that around these parts.

Just a caution about the ones that use air pressure to drain, make sure the valve to the drain pan is closed before you pressurize it... wasn't paying attention one day and hadn't drained one of these before(new shop), it looks like the scene in the movie where the oil well comes in as a gusher, what a mess. :scared: :bounce:

Does anyone have or no where I could get a barrel dolly to fit under a 15 or 55 gallon drum? I was going use a drum as a oil drain and use one of those covers that fit the drum, we used this setup at a place I worked at and it did work fairly well , I then was going to call a couple of shops which could use my waste oil to heat their shops.

55 gallon drum dolly w/casters:

If you have the materials you could make one pretty easily, as well.

You could also try Global Industrial Equipment. Google them up. They carry far more stuff than the mind can fathom early in the day!

Made it myself. Have since swapped out the iron pipe for PVC, to keep the weight off of the drum head. Works like a champ.
