we now have a mercedes and I dont want to take it in for $90 oil changes and I dont trust the cheapie places
I would prefer doing it myself

no, it does not have a drain plug.
go figure, german engineering

this thing takes 8.5 quarts so the regular small ones just wont do.
I did some extra searching after posting this and found there are several people that are very happy with the HF oil extractor. holds 6 gal and looks kind of like their sand blaster (a little)
with the 20% coupon and tax ut came to $112
I figured I could try it as they have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee
it worked great

thanks guys

Im just wondering but where is the oil filter on the car? Do you still have to crawl under it to change that or did they put it somewhere else?

MB take a filter carterage on the front top of the engine

the bottom of the car has areodynamic panels on the bottom of the car. I would suspect this is why there is not a drain plug.

The drain plug is under the belly pan.

Wow that was fast.
You posted this around 4, then went out and bought the extractor and already finished the job.

I didn't know you could use HF tools on MB:bounce:

So for close to the price of 1 oil change, you got the tool to do it yourself. Not bad

Or he could have taken the bolts/panel screws out of the belly pan and used the drain plug.

I have to remove belly pans on all types of vehicles to access drain plugs, **** hyundai's have them now.

Your Mercedes has a drain plug, using the extractor does not allow any sludge build up at the bottom of the oil pan to drain out, it will mix and contaminate your new oil, if you do this to much it will be like leaving sand in the bottom of your oil pan.

sludge is a lack of maintenance problem, bud. If there are contaminants in the oil, they should be held in suspension.. if not there is a bigger problem at hand.

Did you know that pretty much every oil pan that doesn't have a drain on the bottom of the oil pan, usually leave around half a quart in the sump(most drain plugs are on sides of the pan, i know you already knew that, but just for clarification). I imagine you could literally **** them dry with a mityvac.

// splash guards are a pain in the *** too if you are doing them on your back, so why fool with them if you dont have to?

Even with splash guards, it takes 2 extra minutes to take them off, and 2 minutes to put them on, they are only held on by a few bolts.

EDIT and yes, I remove mine on my back

Mercedes have been designed for oil extraction for at least 30 years, there is no "sludge" left in the pan IF you use the extractor correctly. There have been several people over the years who have tested a vacuum extractor against using the drain plug in several different engines, the extractor removed MORE oil than the drain plug.

I would strongly suggest you use a factory or OE oil filter and one of the factory approved oils in the viscosity range for your location. Also the transmissions should be serviced at 30-40K miles irregardless of what you have been told.

Thanks, JASTECH

I removed the belly pans and there is no drain plug. I checked the internet to find post from similar CLK owners and the answer was to use an extractor or remove the access plate on the bottom of the oil pan ( which some guys were doing)

yes posted here asking the question and then was looking around on the web
I wondered of HF would have one but actually didnt think so.
they did and they even had a few locally so I figured what the heck
they have a 30 day return policy so if I dont like it....
