Assenmacher. They're cast instead of being made of stamped tin like most.
It depends on what you work on but, my favorite oil filter cup wrench is the OTC 6901. It was originally designed for the Oldsmobile aurora/intrigue with the plastic oil filter cap on the bottom of the oil pan but, it fits 90% of common spin on oil filters regardless of brand.
For these to be effective you also need to buy the filters they fit well. I get every off brand to original brand under the sun. Cars with tiny filters that should be bigger but the base fit, whatever thing yhe guy before could invent.
The pliers are my first line weapon just for this.
I still would like to try the Lisle set.
I find I get a far better cup fit if I tap the cup onto the filter before attaching the ratchet I'm using.
You also might like to look at cta2569, and more specifically, it's relatives, I have the one that handles hondas, sorry I'm at home and not at the shop. I have two sizes of these, very useful. The larger I own will handle a fram 2, 8a, 16, etc., I've had it for 25 years, I'll try and find mfr and pn tomorrow.
Cups make no sense to me. Why not just buy the two Lisle universal gripping ones and be done with it? 63200 or similar is one size. Way cheaper, universal, takes a fraction of the space as a cup set. But that's too easy, I guess?
Edit : 63250 , 63600

I was wondering the same thing. I've been using Lisle 63600 for 20+ years and no issues on taking any oil filter out (other than those inner filter only types). It's been great as it takes up hardly any storage space and just grab this with 3/8 ratchet and done!
