A week or so ago I was going to give my old grill to a coworker that just bought his first house and needed more than a camping type grill. I cleaned it up best I could and it stayed under cover for a couple months but when I opened it I was not prepared for the spiders and sprickets that went running everywhere. Plus even though I had cleaned it there was a bit of moldy fuzz on some of the grates so I ditched the idea of donating it away. It's one of those half gas, half propane set ups.
So I was about to take my plasma cutter to it and take it to the dump when I thought......This would be a perfect cutting welding table. It won't be as heavy duty as a legit table but at about 5' long and on wheels it'd be great for catching all the sparks once you close off all the holes. My plan is to join the 2 halves together and cut out the inside ends. I'll have to redo the lids so they'll open a full 180 degrees. 4 heavy duty casters on the corners. I think there's enough space on the bottom shelf to store my 210MVP and the plasma cutter. I am going to have to fab up some sort of bottle holder for 2 tanks.
Anybody ever seen or done anything like this. It's kinda hillbilly-ish but I think it might work out pretty good

This sounds like a prime candidate for the re-purposing thread. Do it and take lots of pictures

I did something similar. saw an old grill on the side of the road on my way up North to my camp so I grabbed it.

I took the grill off and attached some 5/4 deck boards I had laying around across it from end to end. it had plastic side tables on either end of the grill, I just screwed the wood right in through the plastic.

made a nice little table for prepping food and stuff, plus it was easy to wheel around.

don't know how sturdy it would be for welding, those frames are pretty thin, but it did make a nice camp table.

If it's gonna be used for light-duty stuff, no reason it couldn't work.

Re-purposing, this thread reminds me of watching some guys in 'the 'hood,' who were welding-up a 55 gal. drum to use as a smoker. They were pretty-far along in the project, and I'm sure that they must've been eager to try it out.

What caught my eye was that the drum was prominently displaying the manufacturer's product labeling that which it previously held, some-sort of herbicide/insecticide. It was a long-time ago, I was in a fire-rescue vehicle coming back from a call or from getting the tank filled at fleet services, or something. I'll pass on that barbeque!

lots of guys use old propane tanks, fuel oil tanks, etc. you just burn them out real good with a hot wood fire before using. most pesticides bio degrade anyway.
