Hey all!
Years ago when my maternal grandfather passed, I inherited his tool box (he was a tool & die maker IIRC). The box was packed with endmills, gauge blocks, calipers, and other normal machinist tools, including this one which I have absolutely no clue what it is, or what it's used for.

Any help here would be appreciated!

Looks like it’s designed to set the cutting tool at a desired angle, pretty cool.

After a little googling, it looks like it’s called a rocker tool post. Can be used to eliminate shimming to get the tip of the cutting tool where you want it.

It's a lantern tool post for a metal lathe. The tool bit would go through the slot and be held down by tightening the the screw with the handle on top. The semi-circular piece of metal in the bottom is called a rocker, and allows you to adjust the height and angle of the tool bit relative to the work piece.
