Anyone use them for storage in the shop/garage? I Got a 2/4 set of small cubby lockers...all-steel and they dont have any hardware for the lock or opening mechanism. Id like to replace all of the open spots with a proper mechanism so i could put padlocks on each and then build up a angle iron "stand" to put them on. Right now they are on the floor and that doesn't work. Things get piled in front of them and then i cant access them easy..

With an angle iron base (on wheels) id be able to get them up off the ground and more accessible. Underneath i coulld build a shelf to putll all my jackstands and junk. That would be idea. The wheels would allow me to move it around as needed.

I need to find a place or source for old locker hardware. I have to imagine it is all standard stuff. Just enough hardware to put a lock on each locker is all i would need......or somthing with a proper latch to keep the lockers from opening up as i roll the unit around.

I got a bunch really cheap. Most of mine are fine with all locks. I wouldn’t put locks on all of them. First of all locks are expensive and easily broken off lockers. One thing you need is an organization list. Found really fast it ***** opening them all to find something

My neighbor gave me some that he picked up from a school gym remodel. All the doors were spring loaded and there were no keys for the locks. I found them useful for tools. For example, a circular saw fit in one perfectly.

When I started my garage remodel, one of my desires was to have everything on wheels. I didn't think my locker stack would be stable on wheels, so I gave them to my son for his garage.

Note that these have a toe board, so they set up off the floor a bit.

I have a set of lockers l got for 30$ last spring. They can be found cheap if you keep watching the local adds. I use mine for what they are made for, welding jacket, gloves, shop coat, boots etc. I really liked the colour too.

We have always used a set of lockers in our foyer and now in the attached garage beside the door. A locker was assigned to each of our six children. Since they were all homeschooled every got a kick out of it. I will be moving into my new 24 x 40 detached in the spring and the children have outgrown the lockers, so I will have to decide how best to reuse them. I was thinking of chemicals, flammables, etc. hope to see more ideas from others.c3954ef5b5d6ce8a4394b1e8418bc98a.jpg

I have a Justrite flammable cabinet in my shop. I wouldn't suggest using a metal locker to store flammables. It doesn't offer the protection you're expecting. You could probably modify it to be safer, but by the time you're done, you'll have justified buying the right cabinet.

I should school myself in how ‘flammable’ cabinets work. Since my lockers are not made of wood it must be safer.

I found this on Craigslist. They were wired shut so the lady selling them didn't have any pics of the inside. She apparently bought them as part if a larger lot of stuff. I went and looked at them, figured they were just empty big squares inside and made a deal to buy them without opening them up. There was a bunch of rusty wire and she didn't have any tools to remove it.

As i was moving it around to load in my truck we heard stuff banging around inside. She then wanted to see what was in it to make sure it wasn't something valuable... I didn't want to get into a "I bought it already and you didn't want to open it" discussion, so I spent 15 minutes unraveling the wire from one of the doors.

Finally got it opened and wow, what a surprise! Turns out it's a Navy locker from a ship! Unfortunately there wasn't any identifying badges or marks on it, but I did see the exact same kind on a tour of the USS Hornet air craft carrier. I ended up giving it to my Dad when I noticed he had all his ammunition sitting on open shelves in his garage. Plus, he was in the Navy so it seemed fitting.

One day I'll get it back, but hopefully not for a long time.
