Old sockets/Few Wrenches

Hello All,
I've been browsing around this site today and figured I'd make an account and ask a few questions. I've found a lot of great information here but, One big question I have is...are these sockets and wrenches worth anything. They came from my Gramps and Great Gramps.

He ran a farm implement mechanic shop in a small town and sold off most items in the 90's. I took a few things and have been lugging them around for the better part of 15 years.

I have my own tool sets and the sentimental value just doesn't do it for me, as I have a lot of other tangible items that mean much more.

These are random no complete sets. Here is a brief on the lot
Craftsman VV,V,BE
Snap ON Govt., 4, 1948 hour glass
Thorsen MFG in USA
SK, SK Wright, Wright
LectroLite
Weird Spade Stamps
Proto MFG in Los Angeles, USA
etc....

I know that everything has a value, reasonable to what someone would pay....but am I looking at a bunch of scrap?

Thank you to anyone that responds. And I will be glad to dig through them if anyone has questions with helping me out or even interested in what's here.

This is much appreciated.

Scrap no.

What about sentimental value? I would keep them just because of who they belonged to at one time.

I appreciate that bob15. I have plenty of other sentimental items that include tools, guns, etc... These are random that will never mean much. Ive had them for too long and seen them twice. Someone might have a need, as you said don't scrap.

Not worth a fortune, but it would all sell on eBay. As with any lot of tools, it'll be worth more broken up and sold separately, or in small "sets". Proto Los Angeles doesn't bring big bucks, but sells FAST on eBay to the folks that collect it.

What you make from it all depends on the time and effort you want to put into it, but definitely worth more than scrap.

$1 to $5 a socket or wrench is typical going rates for stuff like that the Snap on could bring $10 or $15 each or more depending on tool on ebay or $5 in like flea markets is typical of what I see. There's a flea market with a a bunch of Snap on sockets and wrenches for $5 each by me everything else is $1 Sk,williams, wring, proto etc. Just put it on ebay as a lot or piece it out might get $5 or less a tool. Im a sentimental guy and have all my dads old Snap on and hes still alive just dont wrench anymore but id never sell any of it as its all ive got from him as of now but really all i would want.Good Luck

Appreciate the advice. There are a lot of other types that I figured weren't worth mentioning. Not looking to retire on any of this just looking to pass on to someone that will have a need. Thank you again for the advice

Also, greatly appreciate the advice. Not looking for prices but a need from someone that is wanting it. I'd hate to scrap any of it. I have a lot of complete sets of tools from him that I haven't even seen. These are odds that didn't fit anywhere else and seemed important to someone.

Unfortunately he has passed several years ago. And his words would be "why do you still have this junk" as the saying goes....another man's junk is another man's treasure.

Thank you for the advice. Might be best to price it as a lot.

Not a problem. I've sold a decent amount on eBay to help pay some bills during slow times, and now more as a hobby to make a few bucks sitting on the computer after work.

If you do go that route, the free USPS flat rate boxes and envelopes are your friends. I've crammed a crazy amount of stuff into the envelopes alone, and everything you have there would probably be $11 to ship in a medium box.

That one ratchet in the foreground could be the missing piece to someones vintage tool set and could bring a nice couple bucks....

As mentioned, you'll reach the widest audience on ebay. And I'd probably break it into small sets that make sense for similarity and shipping convenience. Good luck

Where are you located?

Snap on hour glass?

1948 "8" sorry it looked like an hour Glass. I'm in North California as well as north Eastern Colorado. Spend time between the two.

Thank you to all who have responded your advice is appreciated.

If anyone is interested in specifics let me know. Guess I'll put them on eBay separately.

Thanks again to all.

The ratchets are worth 5 to 10, most of the rest a dollar a piece and the open end wrenches 50 cents if they sell. A couple of the double box a couple bucks maybe to someone that really wants them.

I think the hassle of all the computer time and boxing and driving to the post office is a pain. Unless you really don't have much else to do then go for it but I would only separate out a couple of specific items like the old ratchets or some Snap On items and then put the rest in one big auction for about $30. Maybe $20. You can start higher and lower the price when they don't sell.

I hate it when I, as a collector, want only one item in somebodies big bag auction but that's my problem. If I felt like it I could write you and ask for you to separate out the item I want but I never do.

I understand the post count rule response. I was hoping to hear why E Bay?
Larger audience?
Am I right in assuming old tools don't sell for much?

Should have added at some point relocation will mean no more shop and a lot of stuff eventually needs to go not just tools!
Very interested in learning more

I wasn't the one who suggested eBay. Just an alternative from a member to off load some pieces that may be of value to a collector. I'd just hate to scrap this stuff. Researching these items have some look like importance to people. I understand there is a difference between listed $ and sold $.

I'm not looking for a second job in offloading these items. However, a collector might appreciate single listed items like you mentioned, so they are not committed to a whole lot.

I've got plenty to do with ranch and two babies running around. But, a little effort put forth never hurt anyone as long as someone has a need. I'd hate to spend hours on a project that yields little. This was the reason for starting this post. Scrap or Sell. Again, thank you.

IMO, if you tried to sell it all as one big lot of misc... Maybe $50 give or take, depending on where you live...

If you could make some continuous sets of sockets & wrenches then you would be able to sell those for decent enough money.

Some of the odd-ball / single things you can also list on eBay... I've sold plenty of individual Snap-On sockets... They just take a little time to move... Never know when someone is looking for just that one particular missing socket...

Well, I've started a little research into these things. I hope this isn't against forum rules. But, I have a few that I need some help digging into. As far as markings and mfg.

I imagine there is a wealth of knowledge on this forum and this would be a great place to maybe continue posting pictures of what is in this collection.
***The uploaded pictures may not correspond to what I have below...
1. "Star" 3-8 (no other markings)
2. The "Spade" USA
3-4. D-1- 9/16 V8?
5-6. Double Duty Vogel Proto Ratchet - everything I've researched says there should be a dual ratchet head. But, this one doesn't have one. Is in great shape and works well....

I'd love some feedback and thoughts if this is worth pursuing further. I have A LOT more like this. Also they are not in the best shape.

Thanks again.
