Hello all!

New guy here. I found this forum while looking up information on a jack that I rescued from the scrap bin. I work for a diesel service center as a parts manager and we recently moved buildings and my mechanic had mentioned that there was a jack laying around that they never used because it didn't work.

Fast forward a few weeks and were taking out the scrap and there's the jack. It's a big girl and not very light so I was very hesitant to take it at first until one of my co-workers talked me into it.

Anyway I did a little research and stumbled upon this site.

Hopefully you can give me some answers to a few things.

About how old is this? I can't see any numbers the paint is super thick, so I think it would cover any engravings or stampings.

Can you give me a rough idea of what this can lift (how many tons?)

I filled her up with hydraulic oil (took quite a lot!!) and now she works! :rocker:

I attached a few pictures (pardon the quality I am a parts manager not a photographer) and if anyone needs any more specific pics please let me know and I will gladly take them.

Thanks again!

-Brian

I have the 4 ton model of this jack, it is a Walker Greyhound model #784. Here is a thread with some info on them if you haven't already found it.

You should be able to get an idea of age from the ads.

There should be a tag at the base of the handle that will tell the model and capacity. Yours looks like the 3 or 4 ton model. Nice score for the dumpster!

I bought mine last year from an old shop that was closing in seattle, they had 2. Neither worked. I picked the cleaner of the 2 and offered $75. Wish I would have bought both. Hauled it home and put some oil in it just like you, and it worked great. I love this jack, it rolls smooth and is a pleasure to use the way its set up. Since I have gotten it, it has developed a leak and will need a rebuild. It has already been rebuilt once(has a build tag from a repair shop in seattle). It's in great shape so I hope nothing is wrong.

Have fun using it!

Check the rectangular tag at the base of the handle arm, it will list model and lift capacity. Either 2 or 4 ton.

Took a closer look today and I did indeed find the tag!

Says it's a "Roll-A-Car" "N.O. 784" "4 ton"

Can anyone estimate the age based off that info?

I have a 770 Walker and I saw a add for it picking up the back of what looksd to be a late 1920's car. The car in the add had the double bicyle tires on the back for spare tires. I mine could be late 1920's I would guess your to be 1930's era. but that is just my guess.
