That would be a nice crimp unit.

Regarding custom orders, don’t make me go there. Luckily I have the best guy, so it’s easy to order individual drawers as spare parts.
For the build a bay units custom ordering isn’t a problem. But they’re based on Master Series & I’m an Epiq guy, so have to do it myself.

Lista is a hard NO (as they’re now Chinese owned), I’m not interested, period.
Agree.

I move and add drawers all the time as well. I actually just move my top drawer that had all my sockets in it down three slots. Game changer being able to identify stuff quicker!

I thought Lista was owned by Stanley Black&Decker?

Curious as to your reasons.

I'll probably never buy an Epiq, and my Lista was a demo of sorts... so not buying new there, either.

Only the Icon is in my "range".

Well simply put I am a princess prima donna snob lol…. At the price point lista or Rousseau is great. But I like big 30” deep drawers that can handle WEIGHT. The epiqs are pretty darn sweet for that. Tons and tons of storage. The boxes lista makes are “ok” but when it comes to lockers and overheads they just feel chins, but I am being overly picky (kind of my thing).

I will try and remember to take a picture of the lista’s/moduline we have, but it is all kind of laid out in the video on page one in this thread.

Lista is great for the parts department and that is where we have them.

Mine is 30" deep and can handle 400# per drawer. I don't have their lockers and overheads, no room... in the room or wallet.

I bet I would have to nearly fill the drawer with lead to get to 400 pounds. Maybe steel...

I was watching an "outlet" website that no longer exists and got a screaming deal on mine. Never saw another one.

I know Lista makes shallower units.

Tim in your shorts sealing the engine cases is that orange sealant the Wurth anaerobic sealant? I haven't seen that stuff in years and your video jogged my memory. Still have a tube of the Wurth DP300 that gets used for some of my Audi stuff that rolls in.

Yeah bud! Wurth DOS flange sealant. Pretty awesome (but outrageously expensive) stuff.

Orange on the solid stuff and green on the gaskets.

Thank you for following our media channels! Grateful for that. Lots of cool stuff coming.

I bought some of their scratch and dent stuff probably 10 years ago. Really helped me out when I was first starting. Wondered what happened to them! (Retired and good for them!)
I bet between production impacts and lack of cash flow plus the secondary market going ape **** in 20/22 they decided to be done. But that’s a guess. I’m just bummed because it was damn nice grabbing SnD’s for half price that only required minimal repair work.

Built to suit - Go check out the Snap-on Business solutions website. I had a rep come out as I was going to do it, but it is all master series and they would not do epic series. Ridiculous
Given the options if i set up a new shop, I’ll go Build A Bay for the stationary storage and keep with Epiq for anything on wheels. It’s a paint match and in my opinion way better than any other option.

I'm very impressed by all you do, but I have to ask on this. What is going on with the shape of this wheel arch opening? Looks to be an uneven curve, particularly above the "con" on the contact tyre marking and a flat section above "rem" of extreme.

Thank you!

It is somewhat of an optical illusion. But I did reference this in the above post. The metal is just hanging out ATM with no bracing etc. we still need braces to tweak the corners and bring it back true.

Good eye!

This thread is great ! The way it was explained to me is ordering a toolbox off of the rock n roll truck is the only time you can change the drawer configuration without an upcharge. I have done it twice, and added several drawers. However some dealers dont want to put in the effort.

Wish we had the Rock N Roll trucks here. There are 2 in the UK, they also visit some countries in continental Europe as well, although not Sweden. Luckily I have a great dealer, so in the end it is always sorted in some way or another.

All this talk about custom Epic boxes got me curious about the current details. I’m out of the loop since I retired 6 years ago. Sent a text to my Rock-N-Roll guy (who just retired last month after 25 years with Snap-On) and asked about an all 2” drawer 68” Epic. Here was what he sent me….

So it does seem that there are some restrictions on customization, which does make sense as a 2” drawer is nearly as expensive as a 8” drawer, especially when you add in the 6 more slides to the total.

This is my rub, charge me more! I don’t care what it costs! Make what I want!

Picking back up on the 993 Leaf green car… I am back in town in Chicago so time to get the engine assembled for this one. Both of my full time engine builders are flat the F out on other customers cars so I had to step in and get this one done. Feels good to be back at the tool chest doing things for a change.
IMG_4656.jpeg

Block is prepped. Acetone the surface is all done so it is grease free for final assembly.

IMG_9719.jpeg

Sealant laid out and ready. I take an acid brush and dab it out. Those things always lose hairs. Flat rate trick is put a dab of super glue on the base where it goes into the handle. Then crimp it down hard with a pair of pliers. That keeps the hairs tight and they wont come off on the surface. Saves a bit of time.

IMG_9721.jpeg

Sealant applied and smoothed out. Less is more here. You want it to cover but still be translucent. Just a tiny bit of squish when it is bolted together.

IMG_9733.jpeg

Time for sewing class. I am well aware that aircraft procedure is two lines of thread continuous but I only use one. Never had a leak or a failure. We can debate that till the cows come home but we have had incredible results using this methodology.

IMG_9748.jpeg

Slam it home. Key here before you get the journal bolts in is to leave it up on the shuffle pins so that the sealant doesn’t harden. That allows you time to get the bolts all fitted with the o rings while the sealant stays fresh and unhardened.

IMG_4660.jpeg

Final product. Perfect amount of sealant squish (subjective I am sure). But anything leftover on the inside is just washed away and dissolved when you start the engine. The outside is wiped off so it looks like we were never in there.

Tomorrow is deck height, long block assembly, cam thrust and cam timing!

Thanks for following along!

Exactly, just price it out and make use for that "Custom Built For" badge. It's not like they sell the drawers at cost, so it's not about margin/cost. This is all down to bureaucracy and not wanting to. They do it for Penske all the time (check out the pics of his WEC Porsche 963 headquarters in Mannheim Germany, pure Snap-on heaven), so it has nothing to do with it not being possible.

Just say the price....

So just to clarify, the single bank 68" epiq comes stock with 5" drawer on top, then a 3" and then 2", not a 4" in third place. Looking at mine i dont believe the sides are stamped to allow drawer slides in the correct position, to swap out the 5 and 3 drawers, however after that you can definitely run 2" drawers all the way to the bottom.
