Looks good.
Tell me more about this Helicopter tape. Sticky on one side or both? Pretty thick as an antivibration pad?

Thank you!

I wouldn’t say it is anti vibration, for that I would think you would need a 60 duro neoprene that maintains shape? It is adhesive on one side, 14mil thick. It is available from either Aircraft spruce or McMaster (that is where I get it as they are local just a few minutes away from me). its original design was leading edges of helicopter rotors to prevent chipping and marring from FOD strikes on the blades. Extremely durable and I would venture to say almost indestructible. We used to use it way back when on the Porsche race cars to protect the roll bar finish from people entering and exiting the cars.

I think the 3M part number is 8671 but I'll have to double check. I put a piece around the keyhole on my coach last fall after the year end cleaning and remember being almost out of it. I need to reorder, thanks for the reminder.

**On edit, I may have the number wrong, it may be 7071UV. Don't quote me though.

That tape can take a beating…. I’ll buy it until anyone shows me something that’s better.

Agree! As always there is probably something better. Just haven’t found it.

7071UV is correct. McMaster has it as 1750N23 $94.40 a roll

You are correct, it's what we use as well. Great stuff.

Jonesing for updates, guess I’m headed to instagram…
Ha! I’m terribly sorry. The gram is always popping!
Ya what happened Tim, did we run you off? This is definitely one of my most favorite threads, I always look forwards to your updates.
Sorry bro. I’m down in Florida for a couple weeks margarita’ing and sunning the bum.

Needed to unplug and reset.

In an attempt to get this thread back to life, I visited a local car collection last night.
There were a lot of breeds there, but I'll share a couple high dollar Porshe's.

Back at it….. rough few weeks for me sorry guys! Well not that rough as it started with a couple week unplug which my bride and I desperately needed…. Back at work and it was time for my employees to take a turn. Shop boss out for a few days and then straight into my sales lead to take a few. I cover for all the managers when they are out, which makes me extremely grateful for them when I have to do their job.

I actually think all owners should do their executives jobs for a couple of days a year. it really puts it into perspective how demanding of results you are as an owner, and how difficult it is to achieve them. I have so many ideas now on how to improve their positions and streamline things! Grateful for that opportunity.

Picking back up on the 993 90 day rebuild. Boys have been busy

IMG_2347.jpeg

Interior is ready for carpet. All new sound deadening installed over the soundskin. This is the crazy thing about Porsche as a brand, All this stuff is sitting on the shelf in stock from cars from the 90’s. Crazy isn’t it?

IMG_1393.jpeg

Went ahead and built up a differential for the 6 speed box as well while we were at it

IMG_1394.jpeg

Gearbox has all new internals, main shaft was changed as well as ring and pinion and diff…

IMG_1399.jpeg

All new gear sets, short 1-4 and longer 5th and 6th for the highway

Olsen-1.jpeg

Coil overs came in as well and those got fitted up, nothing crazy just some single adjustable but it’s a great ride. Great on bumps and handles the curves well.

IMG_5324.jpeg

Brembo’s fitted up and all the front suspension is back in along with the diff and the center driveshaft

I am back in Chicago till my birthday so I think tomorrow I am going to finally get the bronco back together. Weather is getting warm here quickly so want to drive it a bit before it goes to the Florida house!

More 993 pic’s

IMG_9799.jpeg

Gauges came back. Decided to do cream faces on them, will look good against the leathers that the client selected I think.

IMG_0965.jpeg

Time to put the engine in as well! Meet Dave, hates the camera but I gotta tell you, I have worked with some smart dudes before but this guy is on another level. Calm, cool, collected, and SMART. Love him. Worth every penny (and he isn’t cheap lol)

IMG_1043.jpeg

Looking nice underneath

IMG_1167.jpegOlsen-6.jpeg

Part of first start up is scoping all the sensors, plug wires, injectors etc. I have a massive data base of known goods to compare too. If there is a problem now is the time to address it!

We actually did find a problem, small misfires in the cylinders. Didn’t show up on any data but it showed up on the spark plug wires when we checked them individually. Ended up being three injectors on their way out, strange as we just had them rebuilt and flow checked 🙄

Got some time to put the bronco back together. Should have happened a month ago but life gets in the way!

IMG_5010.jpeg

I was at the dealer last year and saw the code orange Bronco Raptor, had the orange seat belts in it. Decided to buy a full setup from my local ford store.

IMG_5009.jpeg

Started by pulling all the panels off to gain access to the retractors and firing cylinders.
IMG_5013.jpeg

Old belts out and new one installed in the front

IMG_5014.jpeg

I use my snap on bag hammer from the metal shop on all my interior panels - beats hitting it with my fist and doesn’t mar the surface of the trim panels…

IMG_5015.jpeg

Another cool tool is I have a bunch of of these seal tools in various shapes and ends - they come in clutch for quickly getting seals over panels etc. Makes quick work of it, and with the balls on the end of each one they don’t tear anything like a normal pick would.

IMG_5016.jpeg

The rear belt I was able to sneak out with some tight access torx plus on my long aircat air wrench so i didn’t have to take the whole panel off. This is one of those times when you are grateful to have a large tool selection handy!

IMG_5019.jpeg

Also got the new seats in. I hit them with the steamer and the leather heat gun first to get all the wrinkles out and set the leather where I wanted it.

IMG_5025.jpeg

Both front seats in and the rears as well!

Overall I am pretty happy with this build - it is a little more subdued than I usually do for my cars, but at the end of the day that isn’t a bad thing!

All I have left is the front bumper, I pulled the plug on the stereo system for now as that is probably 40-50 hours of work, and there just isn’t time in my life right now for that unfortunately (good problems to have!)

Thanks for following along!

Cool toolbox update’s:

I might have mentioned this before, but at Olsen we like to give back and reward our guys for all their hard work that makes this all possible. I give a tool box away at the end of the year to the top producer for the calendar year. IMG_1154.jpeg

This year it was Paul. Actually came quickly! He spec’d It out first week in January and it showed up on Friday after only 8 weeks! Nothing crazy just a little epic roll around.

IMG_1156.jpeg

Love the look on his face he is so happy! Call me weird but I get such joy out of putting smiles on these kids faces, makes everything we go through 100% worth it. It is a nice spec with the blackout package. I hope that he gets great use out of this box for years to come in great health. He earned it! So happy for him. Full video of his surprise coming to our media outlets soon!

IMG_5032.jpeg

Speaking of tool boxes I gave mine a little love today as well. Put all the stickers on the wrench holders in the metric drawer, I find myself staring at them trying to decipher the sizes a bit longer than I should. I am hoping this helps be a bit more efficient.

IMG_5033.jpeg

Also did the metric wrench drawer in my roll around cart as well.

IMG_5034.jpeg

My standard drawer I still need to order the stickers for, hardly ever use standard anymore so I might leave it as is but I highly doubt my OCD will let that happen!

Thanks for following along! Hope you are having a great weekend!

Good evening everyone! First off wanted to apologize for being “off the grid” for a couple of weeks. Not unlike me, but I have been in a mental funk - completely overwhelmed with work and life to even think about doing anything extra.

It all started about two weeks ago - at the Chicago house, water heater went out. Bad things happen in three’s right? Ha! Wait till you hear this!

IMG_5060.jpeg

I live in a typical Chicago suburb home, built in the 60’s, great construction home. It is a split level with a massive sub basement under everything (pretty rare and spacious). A few years ago we gut rehabbed the entire inside and outside and all the landscaping. But left the sub basement untouched. Put in a new air handler etc but the rest of the mechanicals were (how old who knows). Everything is new but I am down to two bathrooms left and the sub basement. Decided to put in a tankless water heater…

IMG_5062.jpeg

Everything hooked up and running properly. Poking around down there I realized just how far we have let the mechanicals go… out of sight and out of mind sort of thing. While we were down we also put in a new washer dryer hookup and sink faucet.

IMG_5058.jpeg

Washer hookup installed - eventually when i get time I am going to wall this off, paint the entire basement and do epoxy on the floors - just not at the top of my list ATM.

IMG_5059.jpeg

Also stuck in a new faucet. Wife wants to re do the slop sink down there and change it out, but I refuse! I just want to refinish it. It is this old double basin cast iron (incredibly heavy) sinc and I love the nostalgic feel Of it.

As far as chicago basements go it is really not a bad space - has 8 foot ceilings which is super rare for that period of building it is clean but all original. I think this summer i am going to finish it off and make it nice. Grateful to have this home.

Situation number 2! My bride got covid back in early December, she just hasn’t felt right since, been to every doctor under the sun it feels like and all they do is prescribe stuff. (We are not into that style of treatment more natural people). However we spend 10 days a month in Florida every month and when we go there she starts to feel better. Strange so we chalked it up to old age (we are in our late forties) and she cannot handle cold anymore.

Last week she had an air quality test done in our home, you guessed. MOLD!!!! WTF. We are over the top OCD clean freaks what are you talking about?? Turns out like any 60’s house we have those giant galvanized air ducts with the flappers in them you are constantly tweaking… Because the house sits closed up and vacant so much (we turn the climate control up when we leave) condensation had built up and mold began to grow.

So the next day here I am booking flights lol, finding a place to stash cars that live in my garage (of course they went to work where there is no space), cleaning out the basement and putting everything in the garage. FML. In the meantime of course it is almost march 15th (corporate tax day) and we are slammed at work, and work is taking a lot of my attention right now as I am smack dab in the middle of launching a new ops framework with Dynamics!

Next day we are on a plane to the Florida house while the mold is remediated. I land, turn on my phone to a letter of resignation from my top sales guy…. Can’t make this S*** up! Super happy for him, he is getting out of the industry and taking a job with long term upside and a great future for him and his family. I truly and grateful for him and incredibly happy for his future, but what horrible timing!

IMG_5115.jpeg

This has been my home for the last 6 days BURIED in financials and sales calls -

Ive got tons of content to post, but every time I sit down to do it I just don’t have the motivation. Need to put my big girl ******* on and just do it!

One fun thing that happened… My birthday is next week (22nd), we rented a place in Islamorada (florida keys) for the long weekend coming up

The guys know I really wanted to drive the bronco there (I also think they wanted it out of the shop) so they finished it up and sent it down to Florida!

IMG_5097.jpeg

Showed up yesterday it was an awesome surprise. Still hard to believe that the raptor’s as big as they are fit in enclosed transporters - it is so tight took them 10 minutes to back it out lol,

IMG_1907.jpeg

Here is a before just before I sent it up last year
IMG_5110.jpeg

I am pretty happy with the way it turned out - it is a lot more subtle and less flashy then I normally do with the cars, but it flows nicely I think… But that is my opinion.

IMG_5111.jpeg

I didn’t take any before pictures but here is a shot of a stock interior on a Braptor.

IMG_5098.jpeg

Here is the after - not for everyone, but i think it fits the theme perfect.

IMG_5101.jpeg

Bonus it fits in the home garage!

This is another thing I need to do is paint this garage and epoxy the floors…. Never ends. I need to duplicate my self in two different states so I can start getting things done.

I think that the only way to do it properly is to replace the ductwork for a permanent solution…. It is crazy as the Florida house is wayyyy more humid for obvious reasons, and when we leave we keep it at 75, so doesn’t make sense why in a drier climate such as the Midwest this would be happening.

Going to let people a lot smarter than me sort that out!

Though dealing with the water heater issue and the loss of a valued team member are some of life's inevitable vicissitudes (couldn't resist using a 50-cent word!), those challenges will eventually resolve. The discovery of the root cause of your wife's illness is truly encouraging news.

I remember how much lighter I felt when my wife overcame her own health struggles—it's amazing how much of a burden is lifted in moments like these.

Bingo! I would go through anything to have her healthy and smiling, ANYTHING! Was just funny that it all happened at once.

***** losing key players, but it is in fact part of the game of business. I truly am happy for this young man.

The crazy thing is we never smelled mold. We go back and forth quite a bit and even at both houses when you first walk in it has that “closed up house smell” that quickly goes away once you bring life and movement to the house. Never even smelled mold.

I’m happy your wife was able to figure it out. And I agree. The weight is very hard to carry, as men we fix everything (that’s our duty to the family) but I was becoming frustrated at my own inability to help her get better. Hard to explain

Update on the 993.. That one is done and delivered to its home in Boston. Right on Schedule.

IMG_1257.jpeg

This one got the full JL Audio treatment. Ended up mounting the amp on a panel we made to replace the spare tire. Covered this one in leather. We used to carpet this piece, but carpet in the trunk areas retains dust and debris. Leather looks nicer (even though no one is looking here) but it just cleans up better.

Olsen-23.jpeg

these are our sub boxes we make at Olsen. Not much room in a 993 for any kind of sub box. This is as Good as it gets. Leaves you wanting more of course, just not enough real estate to get anything that really bumps at the lower levels. For sure better than stock though!

IMG_1291.jpeg

Interior I think turned out nice. The cream gauges are not for everyone. But it works with the green and tan and also the contrast of the Augusta green leather on the dash.

IMG_5331.jpeg

Overall I am pretty happy with the final product. We missed the 90 day deadline by 11 business days but still faster than anyone else in this industry

IMG_5332.jpeg

Thanks for following along!

Here is a a crazy one for you. Had a comeback last week. Really sucked as we had to go get the car from Ft Lauderdale and had to not Ony do the job for free but also eat $4g in transport.

Leaking from the cam retainer gasket. Worst possible Spot as it is engine out service.

IMG_5239.jpeg

I have been doing this almost 20+ years and I have never seen anything like this before. Must have been a bad batch of O rings - it is the only thing I can think of.

Now before the internet loses its mind, these are not o rings from Amazon, I but only OEM from Porsche. This is a $14 o ring. Ive seen many o rings failures and 100% of the time it is usually use error. But I have never seen one fail like this and split down the middle.

$14 part cost me nearly 10g. Not super happy about it but it’s part of the game!

98% of you guys are 10x smarter than me, what happened here? Interested in opinions! I have a theory

Thank you!

I am sure the colors/style aren’t for everyone’s taste (on Instagram right now we are getting DESTROYED on this car for colors) but thats the beauty of custom!

I'm going to **** on the ugly steering wheel; Porsche failed on that one, not you.

Beautiful car, let the haters hate. It's easy to be critical when nobody knows who you are.

TBH I agree on that one for sure.

Usually we change them out, but this one is for the dudes wife for her birthday. He wanted her to have an airbag for safety reasons. TBH I would do the same thing!

That’s a crazy flaw Tim. Have you checked how elastic it is? I’d also split a bit of it along that line and see if they inside is fiberess (under cured) and not consistently vulcanized

Age? Maybe just a crusty old stock seal? Guy next to my old shop had tons of NOS parts for 70s and 80s euro cars. Last time I was in there, many had decayed and returned to the earth in the factory packaging.

First welcome back.
I think the 933 came out killer.
I agree with 36truck it looks like a manufacturing defect.
Durometer might shed more light, but you need the Porsche drawing/specifications of the ring if you wanted to look closer.
You would need to know how Porsche determines they have produced an o-ring that meets type / design.
I have never seen an o-ring separate like that.
