We are looking at a long chassis floor jack and Omega has some decent prices, are they that price because they are bunk or are they decent?

Dependent on What model your referencing they are fairly good Jacks, They have some Newer Low Profile jacks that ive yet to tear into. I might add that Most of those Omega Long frame jacks can be found from numerous places, Sears, Snap On etc.. Do you have a link of what Model your interested in?

That is the Older Design, Its a Pretty good Design. Ive rebuilt probably close to a 100 over the years, The only weak area is on the Air/Over part as the little Cylinders are very tempermental when it comes to Air Line Quality, They dont like Excess Water or ANY Oil. I would stick with the Hydraulic Version Only, They have a Foot Pump for Fairly Quick Lift from "Rest to Load" Other than that they are Nice/Simple Designs.

Not a shop per say, we own a farm so it will be called upon to do cars, trucks, some smaller tractor work as well.

I'm not married to any brand or style but figured this would give us the best all around jack that we'd use in this situation. If anyone has a recommendation I'm all ears, again just trying not to break the bank on a jack.

The Omega low profile, long reach jack is a good jack that is very robust (I have owned one for four years). Although, it is not especially precision made.

The heavy duty frame on many of them is warped slightly so all four wheels do not sit completely flat and the pump plunger is a poor design. The sheet metal cup that retains the plunger spring can move off-center and the cup will be damaged when you lift something. Just be careful with it and make sure it is centered.

Individual parts are not available (or weren't) and you need to buy a complete pump assembly if something is damaged. In fairness, I was sent a pump assembly for free when mine developed problems and the company had great customer service.

Bottom line: There are not many long reach low profile jacks that can be used for low cars (3.5 inch saddle height). The Omega (and Omega re-brands) has capabilities similar to the much better AC DK13HLQ at a fraction of the cost.

The Models the OP is looking at isnt a "Low Profile", Omega does have Nice Customer service and im suprised that they didnt offer the individual part. Its been awhile since i dealt with them but ive bought Pump Piston assemblies in the Past. As far as the Tweaked Frame?.. I Suspect it just the nature of the beast, When you have such a Long span and Need to Maintain the Low profile your obviously gonna be lacking on Support/Metal during the Lift Stage.

Any other brands you guys recommend? From the recommendations I'll stick with the hydraulic, it seems Omega is a good brand but just curious if there is another brand similarly priced.

I've thought about trying to find an old jack and rebuilding it but those are hard to find.

You can find any Jack Marketed by Omega (Shinn Fu) under many different Models/Colors etc.. If your talking about 5/10 ton Range Just about every jack is gonna be the Same Design as that Omega in the Import Line and Priced Accordingly. Im Sure OTC is offering the Same Jack and it might be worth looking into Regarding there lifetime Warranty. Im not sure if that model is covered or what the price point is, Just food for thought. If you run across any Old Iron and your curious to the Quality etc.. Just shoot me a PM.

I have the omega low profile posted in the pic above...seems great in theory but I've never been able to get it to lift my truck. Its a 3 ton jack and my truck weighs in at 4300lbs and I feel like I'm going to break the handle to get it in the air. Something probably needs repair but I have nowhere to start and nowhere local to take it in and look for help. *****, because I got it for its design and its not been very useful to me.

I have the omega low profile and like it a lot, and I'm waiting to replace it with an ac hydraulic when money allows. It's an OK jack, and shinn fu has branched out. I think they own hein warner now and are still making some of the hw stuff in the US which is a good thing in my book.

btw HiBall, I sent you a PM a couple weeks ago about an old jack I'm thinking of buying, when you get a chance take a look at the pictures.
