So…. While I don’t turn wrenches for a living I do spend a lot of time in the shop on my cars (currently 13 of them) and side jobs for friends. I have two pf720b that I picked up around 2000. Based off of these ratchets I can’t say that I have been a fan of snap on. They are the backups if I can’t find my good ratchet or if I have a buddy over wrenching with me. The ratchets are sloppy and seem to tear up easily. Since I don’t own or work at a shop the snapon man doesn’t stop by so I have to have my mechanic buddy get rebuilds. My buddy says the new snapons are lot better than these ratchets. So after stripping out a new rebuild the SAME day I got it back I decided it is time to get rid of them. I moved so now I can’t my buddy get them swapped out. Yesterday SnapOn had an event at San Antonio Raceway. I figured I could get my ratchets swapped out.
Here is where the fun starts. So there are about 10 trucks backed up to the fence with those temporary tent/cabanas. They were grilling out and there was a ton of people hanging out. So I picked the truck over by the staging lane that had a bunch of Snapon swag for sale. They can’t help me and tell me to go over to the fence where all the trucks are. So I walk over I try to find a dealer. I find a guy with a real nice Snap on shirt and ask him. He says something about a lady is changing in the truck and to wait 15 minutes and then he sees another dealer points me to him. So I walk over to him as he is coming out the truck and start to talk to him. He tells me his computer isn’t on and he can’t help me. Tells me to go talk to Dennis Taylor (IIRC). So I walk down to the truck with his name on it and he is sitting right next his truck. I tell him my story and he tells me he can’t help me because he isn’t working. He tells me to go a couple trucks down and talk to this other dealer. At this point he starts saying how this is going to be funny because this guy he sending me to is a new guy. I tell the guy I am not trying to be part of a joke and I am not going over there give him a laugh. At this point I give up and I head back to my truck to watch the races.
After a couple hours me and my friends head back over to the “new” guy. I end up talking to a lady that isn’t in her truck and the “new” guy that works for corporate or for a corporate account. They confirm my version of ratchets isn’t very good and talk they about they can probably rebuild them if they can get parts. The last ratchet was hard to rebuild because the guy couldn’t get parts. The lady says she would rebuild it if her truck was there and the guy tells me if I come down to his place of business he’ll help me. They say this is a PR event and they aren’t working which is why none of the trucks will help me. Then they say I need to look up the local dealer for my area call them. At this point I am pretty pissed off. There are more than 10 snap dealers and none of them will work with me.
I go back to my truck and get ready to leave. There is one last truck that is next to the snapon 18 wheeler displays. I go over ask the guy (Mike Glascock) if he is working. He says so I tell him my story and how none of the other dealers will help me. He grabs an f80 and tells me how much better it is then my ratchets. I ask him what I need to do get them swapped. He tells me my two snapon ratchets and $10.75 will get me the f80. What a deal!! I can see why you guys love snapon
