Cool thanks, I'll take mine apart and see if I can find any part numbers or something. Would be interesting.

I must say for a cheap ratchet I think it feels lovely, if it wasn't so heavy i'd use it alot more (can't fit something over the end for extra leverage very easily either :( )

Its a good thing few share your opinion otherwise nobody would do anything. Try that attitude when you go to work.

Boss: Can you do this for me?
You: Maybe, maybe not, i'm not required to do anything.

please.

If it was my day off I would certainly tell the boss no. If I am the boss and it is my day off then it is a moot point.

I bought it when I was on the road and needed a ratchet. I was 20 bucks IIRC, fine tooth and I got it from http://www.northerntool.com/

I have only used it a couple times so I can't give it a real review. It has a real small head and doesn't need much angle to get a click. Here are some pictures of it taken apart.

http://garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96769

one guy says the guts look the same as a Matco 88. I'd like to know who really makes it.

most northern branded stuff is danaher, i use them alot at work. northern also carry titan which is not as good, wanted a http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200382242_200382242 but its really sloppy....anyone know if i could slip a fine tooth head in there

I emailed snap on. We'll see what they say.

Thank you for contacting Snap-on Tools. We are sorry to hear about your frustration with some of our dealer force, but are glad that you did finally get taken care of. Enjoy your new F80!

They did ask what I needed and when the found out I just need ratchets swapped I felt like they just didn't want to deal with me because they wouldn't make any money. I am sure if I said I wanted to spend 10k on tools they would turn their computer on. I could be wrong though.

Exactly..and the problem would be??????

I'm at the races chillin with the homies in my Snap on truck. Do I really want to stop what I'm doing every half hour and take care of warranties???

Umm...no. That's why they have routes so customers can be taken care of. Do some homework of your own. Find out who runs the Snap on route closest to you and become aquainted with him...you know...you become the customer and allow him to service you properly.

Or.....use the freaking internet like you're doing now and get on the online catalogue and take care of your warranty problem.

But seriously dude...whining about some off duty snap on guys at a race not wanting to do warranty work is girl like. JMHO

if i fix your ratchet i get credited back on the repair kit ( no warranty pay for fixing it )
if i give you a new one, i have to add it to my warranty list, tag it and explain what was wroing and what ratchet I gave you, then ship it out to snap on RPC and wait for credit. usually takes 1-3 weeks....

heres a question, if its a broken pf720b and SO still makes parts for it do they allow you to do a straight swap for an F80 treating it as obsolete or does SO require a ratchet to be rebuilt if it can be? I'm guessing its at your discretion but am just curious.

what as the original message?

Hi,

I went a racing event where there were several Snap-on trucks to get two old ratchets warrantied. I am upset because some of the dealers that were there to enjoy the race would not bow down to my needs. I finally found a dealer that was open for business and we made a deal where I traded in my two old racthets in on a new F80. I then went and posted my experience on a message board where a bunch of experts told me I got screwed. I want you to refund the $10 I paid in trade and send me another ratchet. While you are at it, you should send me a complete set of sockets since I was inconvienenced or I will never buy any more Snap-on tools again.

In the event of non tech/auto/whatever tool owners sending it in is the best way. I sent in a SLF936 and got back a new SLF80. I ended up paying for postage there since I didn't give them a call first. Found out they'd normal send you a label to ship it back. Was worth it for not having the hassle of tracking down a dealer. Though I'd like to find one I could deal with regularly. Will be getting my tires rotated soon so will have to ask.

I can somewhat agree with the OPs complaint. If your going to show up promoting SO to the hilt you should act like you care. Then again they need days off to. If it was me and they had a truck there and hanging out around it. I think a simple request wouldn't be a big deal. If they had a SO on dress shirt next to a honda, wouldn't even think to bother them.

I would buy so much stuff from you if you were our local dealer. I am being serious too. I pretty much only deal with SO online anymore. I have also reverted to buying as much Cornwell stuff as I can as well. It's a bummer because I am still building my set, and I still need a ton of basic hand tools. I won't buy tools with a credit card either, so that means either saving up my extra spending money, or getting stuff from the Cornwell dude.

If any of the dealers had truly been salesmen, they would have invited you in, and while taking their time to fidget and fuss over your ratchet and getting their computer booted, you would hopefully see a couple of other tools you just happen to need but haven’t gotten around to ordering, and once the computer is up he’d show you a couple of current specials that you might be interested in but didn’t know about and by the time you left you would not only have your ratchet replaced, but you would also be carting a big *** box of shineys that you really didn’t go there to get in the first place but since you were there the truck doesn’t stop at your house – and since this guy took the time to help you out when the others didn’t…

…but all of that takes a salesman that was willing to risk a warrantee to make a greater sale and promote the brand he was there to promote in the first place…

You've got a funny idea of "off duty".

OP said it was a SO promotional event. These SO dealers had brought their trucks in order to promote their wares. They most certainly were NOT off duty. And even if they WERE considering themselves off duty, they should not have been so "girl like" to not straight up tell the OP that they were on lunch or whatever.

Shifting someone off on another dealer or making lame excuses is definitely not handling it like a man.

Same thing as the first post with some typos fixed. At the bottom I added "I talked to some folks that said I should contact you guys, so I am."

I had planned to call/email them but a car buddy said they were hosting an event at the track. I had no idea I wouldn't be able to swap out a ratchet.

Well my buddy's alternator went out last night (same guy that went to the snap on event with me). So I got use the ratchet. It is farrrrrrrrrrrrrr better then the pf720bs I had. "clicking" them hand doesn't show you how nice they are you have to get them on a bolts to feel how nice the action is. ***** that Snapon's customer service is so horrible.

I think it's funny that people come on here and say that snap on's customer service is so bad. I am just a home mechanic, don't deal with a tool truck. I email snap on directly when I need a warranty and I am taken care of, second to none customer service. Just so you know snap on and the tool trucks are two different companies, each tool truck is it's own company/boss. I do think that they could have taken the 10 minutes to help you out at the race. But I also would never go to a race to get something warrantied, there are far better routes you could have taken to get your problem resolved a lot better.

I have a leaky bathroom faucet that I bought from lowes, should I take it to a lowes sponsered race event to try and get it warrantied? Probably not. Snap on has truck drivers to take care of the guys that deal with them every week. They also have a very good customer service setup for those of us that don't deal with a tool truck, you just call or email and you will be taken care of.

In my opinion you didn't chose the best route to get your tools warrantied. Yes they should have taken a little time to help you out but also could have came on here and asked "what is the best way to warranty my ratchet" and you would have been told, would have saved you a lot of trouble and also you would have 2 ratchets right now. And saved you all the complaining.

But what fun would that be. The way this forum is, there should be a totally seperate forum for whining and complaing. Maybe they could set it up where violin music plays on their computer the whole time they are posting.

Yeah, It is clearly my fault. I should have investigated the snapon company infrastructure and best path of resolution. It is clear I am not a person that should be supported by a snapon truck driver and not being so I was totally out of line in even thinking that I should able to get a snapon tool replaced when there are 14 snapon "stores" at a snapon event. It serves me right that the last snapon truck/dealer took advantage of me. That is what I get for thinking I was worthy of dealing with the Gods of the Tool world.

Let me sum this up. The ratchets I had were JUNK from day one and the customer service (whether it was normal or not) I received sucked. It was below sucking because the fact the last guy took advantage of my ignorance. I tried to post up something positive about the new ratchet being nice and you call me a whiner. I tell you what, how about all the people that think I am just bitching send me 5 bucks and once it makes up for the what the snapon dealer took advantage of me for we'll delete the thread? or just send me a ratchet and 11 bucks. Who is first?

We can move this post to that section or maybe have sub forum for people that whine about whiners. They can play flute music in background. If you are a whiner of whiners does that make you a super whiner

You didn't try to post something positive about your new ratchet, you did that and still complained about SO customer service. I tried telling you that taking a ratchet to a race to be warrantied isn't the best way to go about it. Also tried to tell you what the best way was. I also stated that I thought one of the trucks could have taken 10 minutes to help you out. Never once called you a whiner, just stated that if you had looked into things a little more you would have 2 ratchets and wouldn't be posting about crappy customer service.

We have all sorts of sporting events around me with all sorts of sponsers. The local ford dealership sponsors all sorts of events, should I take my truck to the event and expect him to fix something on it. NO. I call the ford shop and take it there. There are routes to take to get what you want.

Yes it ***** that the dealer took advantage of you. But if you would have made one phone call or one email to snap on before going to a race event to get a ratchet warrantied you would be super happy.

It is what it is but you are still complaining about SO customer service. The dealers you delt with are not run by snap on, they are their own business and boss and some are good and some are bad. But I can tell you that SO customer service is second to none. There are hundreds of threads on here about guys getting stuff warrantied threw snap on when they don't deal with a truck.

Sorry you got screwed but in my opinion continued bashing of snap on customer service isn't called for when all you had to do was make one phone call and you would have been taken care of. Better luck to you in the future and if you aren't sure how to warranty something jusk ask so then you won't have to complain.

Well I talked to the area manager. He said the pf720b sold for 42 dollars new and that they don't give full value on the worn out tools. The industrial tools are normally cheaper or something then the auto line for whatever reason. They normally try to rebuild them. He said that the guy wouldn't be getting two f80s for my old ratchets. He was also disappointed that none of those guys would help me at the event and he is going to have a talk with dealers about it. He said that shouldn't have happened.

I do feel that Shawn, the manager and the lady I spoke to on the phone at snapon do care about customer service. The manager even asked me if I wanted my 11 dollars back. So that is the end of it.
