I have a Q about Grearwrench vs Sunex impact sockets. Which do you guys feel are better? As the prices are close. Tell me what you think of the short, deep impacts and swivle impacts short and deep.
Ive been slowly converting over to 3/8 and 1/4 for most of my sockets. With the newer more powerful impacts(air and electric) Most of my time I find myself using smaller drives.

Thanks Chris

I like sunnex sockets very much. I have 3/8 and 1/2 master sets plus 3/4 shallows. Never broke one. No experience with gear wrench.

Might as well buy HF if you're buying junk. At least with HF the price reflects the quality.

There's a huge difference between HF and Sunex. Sunex have excellent quality, as opposed to HF (Brocken many a HF). I've had Sunex alone for the last 8yrs, daily pro wrench use... Never any issues!

Point me to all the HF "I just broke my impact socket" threads please. It's pretty common knowledge that everyone and their cousins has two sets of HF impact sockets. Surely with all of them in circulation there should be numerous threads on them breaking.
If he wants a name brand tool then get it. If he wants imported junk then at least pay fair market value.

As some who has a socket drawer of SO, Mac, sk, Marco and Cornwell impact sockets. The sunnex impacts make a great secondary set in my service truck.

I've been looking for a decent set of 3/8" impacts also.

The Cr-v HF sets skip 15mm and 18mm, sizes I use frequently. I also don't like how thick the sockets are with very little taper on the smaller sizes. By the time you buy all 4 sets, and go someplace else to get the missing sizes needed it gets close to the same price as the nicer Cr-moly ones offered by Gearwrench and Sunex.

In looking at those I also found that the Grey Pneumatic sets look to have a longer taper that might make the smaller sizes better in a tight spot, similar to the S&K sets. Ultimately S&K are the ones I want, with a 40 piece set being $160 vs sub $100 for all the import ones.

Sunex are very good i would reccomend them over gearwrench but also look at grey pneumatic they offer same warranty and better quality than sunex or gearwrench imo

I have the Sunex 1/2 dr. 29pc. Metric and SAE set Model 5153DD. I gave somewhere around $90-$100.00 for the set two years ago. They have been great no issues. I use the 3/4x13/16 and 19mmX21mm flip sockets all the time. They came in a nice case. Super handy . I also use a the GP 3/8 metric short impact flex 6pt. No issues. The only GW stuff I have are wrenches and 1/4 dr. chrome metric flex and use them all the time with no issues. All I use now are shallow 3/8 impacts(Snap On) when Im working on something. I use chrome(Craftsman) when 1/4 dr. is needed.

I own the full Gearwrench metric impact socket sets; deep and shallow, 8mm to 36mm no skips.

I love them. They come in a really solid case, and the sockets themselves are great quality. Not much else to say, they work.

I would agree if you can't find out the materials used, but some impact sockets will tell you whether they are chromoly or just plain steel. If it says chromoly then get those because they will standup to the name "impact" sockets. I'm pretty sure Sunex are chromoly.

Lots of good feed back. Thanks guys! How is the angle bind on the swivles. Seems like you can never get enough angle from a swivle. What Snap Ons I have are good for angle but that is a different quality so different animal.
Ill sit down and compare sets and prices for the Grey,Sunex and GW. I do have a set of Sunex and they are made from CroMoly.

gearwrench is a bit easier to warranty, fastnal can handle warranty. Both are good quality. Not junk like some poster like to spout.

Warranty wise I will most likely send back to maufacturer. Just dont have time to search down dealers or drive around town.

I have impact sockets (only metric) from both Sunex and Gearwrench. I've used the Sunex ones for several years and never had a problem. Mostly automotive work, not heavy industry stuff. I also recently got some Gearwrench impacts and they seem like decent impact sockets but I haven't used them enough to really say.

I actually really like Sunex quality, even their chrome stuff. I got the Gearwrench set just because I've been having good experiences with Gearwrench stuff the last couple of years and thought I'd give it a try.

As for warranty with Gearwrench, I just call them and they will try to get you to find a local retailer/dealer to do warranty, but if you just keep telling them you don't have a local place that's practical for you to go to, they'll just mail you a replacement.

The best thing Gearwrench Impact sockets have going over Sunex or grey pneumatic is their size markings. Gearwrench impact sockets have large high vis markings plus stamped sizes big enough to read. The Gearwrench impacts will serve you well. Shop around for the best deal though as pricing isn't constant.

Why is it on EVERY forum there's someone just like you that can't answer someones question, yet feel the need to voice their opinion just to hear themselves flap their lips?
The question was not at all about HF tools yet you felt the need to mention HF. Not everyone can afford to spend 3-6 times more money for a tool as you seem to be able to. And just so you know you are paying a extra 50% because it says Snap-on,Matco or Mac on the side of it. Now go back to watching All Girl Garage so you can learn something (hopefully some respect & couth).

You used your first post to necro a 2 year old thread to scold someone who isn't even active here anymore?

We don't pay an extra 50%. No one pays retail.

Right now you can buy 3 3/8 sets with a ratchet and extension for $500. That's a screaming deal

I have been buying sunex impact set recently and so far I have been very happy with them zero issues fit and finish are flawless on these compared to HF or the similar and there not far behind on the truck brands except for the swivels adapters I like my snappy they just feel heavier duty even though I haven't broken a sunex one yet.

^^ I've bought 6 sets of sunex sockets
for way under 500 bucks

3/8 met master set
3/8 sae master set
3/8 swivels met and std
1/2 metic master set
1/2 sae master set

I have a mix of sunex, HF and GW 1/2" impact socket sockets. My 1/2" deep impacts are all HF except for my 18mm which is mac lol. The GW sockets are great and excellent quality. i have had them for over a year and never had an issue. The HFs i have had for 2 years and they are durable but are kind of bulky. I would probably recommend to spend extra for sunex or GW since they are better quality and come with an 18mm. I like sunex alot but I do agree with what someone said the marking on the GW make them better in my eyes. Also my Sunex impact hex sockets are junk. They always strip especially my 5mm impact hex. It's possible that its just 2 small of size to use reliable as an impact socket.

I use both in. 1/2" on a daily basis working on coaches, you really can't go wrong with either for the price. I've thrashed mine and only ever broke one swivel of the gearwrench. Took it to where I bought it and I was given a new one no questions asked.

Your gift card to spend more on the same company doesn't count

And yeah, I have sunex. But don't use them on critical fasteners

Nah, I'll spend my gift card on groceries or something.

I do use my sunex on critical fasteners... though I haven't asked the fasteners how they feel about the matter.
