Lowes is closing all approximately 100 of their OSH stores. For those that don't know, OSH is a (mostly) California based hardware store chain. The more recent history of OSH is that it has been passed from owner to owner like a hot potato. Lowes is just the most recent owner. Lowes' new management has decided to close down the money losing OSH.
It appears the D-day for closing is the end of October. The store closing sale started on a Thursday. It appears that every Thursday, the discounts will increase. (Conveniently, October ends on a Wednesday.)
The discounts started at 10% to 30%. Then went to 10% to 40%. They are now 15% to 40%. The highest discount is on items that are sold in bins like bolts and pipe fittings.
Wandering the store, I didn't see anything that had the price raised before starting the sale. However, the 10% discount merely made their prices competitive with the Despot down the street. Also, in years past, OSH would have "no sales tax" sales which amounted to approximately 10% off.
I've been to four different OSH's (including their "oldest" location) since the sales started. They are busy but not mobbed. The paint departments consistently have had some empty shelves - I guess people are stocking up on their custom mixed colors.
