OTC Front end puller set on Amazon

This is a nice puller set, but the real deal is if you select the "front end service set bundle" which adds the on car press. (giant C clamp) Puller Set & on car press for $107.60 is a good deal, either retails for about $100 each.

I couldn't figure out how to make the link go right to the bundle, so you have to select it yourself under style.

Pretty much any ball joint adapter kit will work. The adapters are all just tubes that sit on the plates or press against the shaft of the ball joint. Just like a wheel bearing kit or shop press. Or big sockets.

But.... the Astro one on amazon (sorry no link) is about the same price as HF's and I trust their QC a little more. OK, a lot more!

That's a great deal for the bundle. I just ordered it. Thanks for telling us about it, 2slow!

Yarrrg.... and I told myself I was going to try saving money. Thanks for posting this. I'm pretty sure I cocked my HF press and was researching a replacement anyway.

Thanks OP! I've been eyeing the front end kit anyway. I already have the ball joint press but may give this one as a gift or sell it to recoup some of my money on the front end kit.

There's been some talk of OTC being a royal PITA if you need to warranty anything and some debate on whether or not OTC will stand behind their BJ press if you admit to having used an impact on it (although one person says to have found an OTC video where they are using an impact on their product - I didn't click). Here's a thread:
https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=363486

If anyone is just really needing a BJ press I'd consider the AP (Astro), they tend to run $60-70 on Amazon. AP has told me directly on this forum they're fine with impact use so long as you lube the threads.

I, too, finally bent/sprung my HF press and Chris says the AP is considerably stiffer due to a recent change in metallurgy (sorry I don't have more specifics than that).

I'm not saying the OP isn't a good deal, it looks to be. I just don't need or already have all the other pullers pictured in the "bundle." Plus, those "X" pullers with the jackscrew at the back, do they EVER work? LOL. And IMO the only pitman arm puller to have is the Snap-On/OTC "half-cone" conical style, but then I pretty much only work on pickups.

The ones that say 'Snap On'. It's night and day if you work on 1 tons, maybe not as much if you don't.

The adapters are nothing special and easy to fabricate.

I primarily work on Hondas, and imports some minivans and on occasion a smaller pickup truck.

There's an adapter with a cutout on one side for honda bj removal. I just smack them a few times with a hammer and something on the top of the bi. A 22 mm deep socket works well but the air hammer hit posted above would be nice. Now I have an adapter for the press but I find its easier to just give them a few good whacks.

That OTC showed up as shipping within 1-2 months for me when I checked the original post. Did anyone commit to the combo and be willing to wait that long?

I bought the clamp last year for the same price as that combo....I feel ashamed to admit that now...kinda like throwing 100 dollars out the window at 70mph

I ordered it and mine is split into two shipments. The ball joint kit portion is expected in the normal two day shipping. The other portion is expected in 1-2 months.

I don't need this or even know when I will so not to worried about when it shows up

My press arrived today, and the pullers are scheduled to arrive tomorrow. (I ordered my set before posting here) They were billed / shipped separately even though I bought a "bundle"

I had the Harbor Freight press and the dimensions are basically the same as the OTC unit. Of course the OTC unit is made in USA, and the HF is China. Looking at the metal finish, I think the HF unit is as cast, and the OTC is either die cast, squeeze cast or partially forged. I will give the HF unit to my brother.

Amazon probably sold out due to the Garage Journal hot deals effect and that is why it now says shipping in 1-2 months. I think Amazon the bundle price is an error and they will raise it once they realize. They do have amazing customer service, so I bet they would honor the price if you order while it is listed at this price.

Great deal! I paid that just for the OTC press years ago, pretty sure mine is China made. It has held up great. I have the pullers also, Matco branded...

OTC BJ press I ordered in 2014 was china made; I was pissed as hell. Still held up good though. And yes the HF adapter kit works with it.

Got the Pullers set last night. Press set still shows "not yet shipped" but is scheduled for arrival next week. This is probably the best deal GJ alerted me to. It is now back up to full price, so you had to act fast.

Car_Guy is right. When I clicked on the link from the bundle I bought, it showed $261.34 but looking at it more closely, it is a bundle that also includes the Astro 7868, besides the OTC 6295 and OTC 7249. That is basically a bundle at full price.

When I go back to the real bundle I bought, the price is the same but shows 1-2 month delivery.

Thanks for posting! I just pulled the trigger -- the chance that mine will be USA made was enough to put me over the edge.

Unfortunately the pullers have no made USA on them, and when opening the box, it has that familiar chinese factory odor. Still a good deal for the both.

Thanks for the heads-up!

My order shows that the 7249 Ball Joint kit will show up Friday, but the 6295 Front End Service Kit is estimated between 11/30 and 12/25.

From a purely petulant standpoint, I like getting my stuff immediately, but since I don't *NEED* this for anything anytime soon, I can wait, especially given how great of a deal it is.

Edited to add: Shipping for the 6295 Front End Service Kit has updated to "Arriving Wednesday"

The Front End Service Set has a white cardboard wrapper around it. The underside of the wrapper says MADE IN TAIWAN. The tools are only each marked with a 6-digit part number that is different than the OTC part numbers shown on the top of the plastic case. None of the tools are marked OTC.

Am scheduled to receive the Ball Joint Kit next week.

I think Amazon found the error. Bundle is up to 211.52 For those that had 1-2 month shipping times, I am curious if Amazon honors the price or cancels the orders.

Amazon seems to always honor prices in these situations and almost always delivers the product, even if it takes several more delays to get it to you. It's very rare for them not to.

Borrow the set from O'reilly's or Autozone.

Too far to drive from the shops. We only have a NAPA in town and with their service centers they don't loan tools. Never felt right renting tools like a press anyway.

The press and pullers arrived yesterday. Both look pretty good and I'll be testing the press this weekend for sure. Might even give the pullers a shot and see if they're better than the old smack the knuckle with a hammer technique.

Amazon updated my shipping time.

Instead of 11/30-12/25 arrival date, it's now next Wednesday, 11/8.

They did similar with mine. Went from taking 1-2 months to shipping two days later. Interestingly the fedex tracking wasnt the normal "shipped by amazon" but rather some weird company i hadnt heard of
