OTC Shop Press Refresh

Picked up an older OTC 1833 press today, which I plan to dissemble, clean and paint. Hoping for it to look close to new but doesn't have to be perfect.

It spent it's life in a Raleigh Nissan dealership, stored inside and doesn't seem to leak.

There is a bend in the right side upright that I'd like to correct. Any ideas on the best approach here? Heat, bend until close, then weld in a brace or some other method ?

Also, any thoughts on a replacement gauge? This model has one connected at the pump end and is old school with no glass face.

I wonder if you could get a piece of threaded rod, large enough to fill the holes for the pins, and lock it on the straight upright with washers and nuts on each side, and then use a nut with large washer on the inside of the other bent upright to push it out. Apply heat and then with a big wrench start turning the nut, in turn pushing that upright outward and straight again. Because that support member was welded in right below, it should work. Then weld another support member in just like the one below the bend.

Nice! I used to have a 50 ton press. A good press is hard to beat.

Exactly the same as we used for pressing wheel bearings etc when I was a kid 30 + years ago in the parts house...It's hard to beat OTC.

Very nice - thanks Todd.

Question though, my pump seems to be OG (very old model) with the gauge threaded into the pump housing vs. a "T" connector. Wonder if the thread size is the same .

I would assume they are both 1/4" NPT.

The only thing I think may be different would be the press cylinder size, which would change how the gauge reads if it shows tonage rather than PSI.

If you have a serial number their customer support may be abe to tell you.

Dissasembled and scrubbed clean...was a lot of cleaning. A little wire wheeling up next and then ready for primer / paint.

Almost done. Waiting on purchasing a new gauge until I put this pump through its paces. If it starts to leak then I'll pickup a newer pump and gauge.

Also have some Swag press plates on their way! Fairly pleased with how it turned out. Even dissasembled the hand winch versus replacing with new.

Paint was just regular Rustoleum black, white and Maui blue. Really close match on the blue.

You rattle can sprayed it or used a gun? It looks exceptionally well. I though it was powder coated.

Just rattle can. If I had to redo it I'd use a gun...woke up after painting with a sore finger. The old school gun attachment I have doesn't work on the larger rattle can nozzle.

Just masked them. If they decided to tear/peel when removing the masking I was planning to check with OTC for replacements or reprint new ones. Luckily they turned out fine.
