I’ve never seen or heard of one of those.

Considering Owatonna is only about fifty miles from my front door I‘d have expected to see one floating around somewhere in the area over my years of hunting vintage tools.

Pretty neat.

I picked up a couple of nice oTc sockets at a sale this summer and started looking for other stuff,found a couple wrenches. Then did some trading with someone here on G.J.and got this 1/2 drive set... From looking at alloy artifacts info,I guess it's from the mid-forties,but everything...

The Internet Archive has a bunch of old OTC catalogs.

Apparently, the company started back in 1925. The earliest catalog shown is from 1930. Looking at logos on boxes in the catalogs, they seem to have been round early on, then (possibly) shaped like mine, before being squared off on the sides like the two above.

I'm not an OTC guy, although I am aware of them. I know good quality junk when I see it and this box surely will interest someone here. Hopefully it gets rescued pretty soon. They're asking $100 and I bet the price will significantly drop if you show up in person to negotiate. If I wouldn't end up wearing this box as a Christmas hat, I would have already dragged it home myself.

This is mine, I've had it 3 1/2 years now. Saw an ad on Craigslist where a guy was getting rid of a bunch of junk because he was moving and saw the box. Went over there, paid $60 for everything. Sold the stuff I could for $80, kept the box and a few things and gave away the rest.
