Thank you for the interest in our new home.The interior will have 2 garages 1,6meters x10 1/2 meters wide for the every day cars (jappers ) the other 10 1/2 wide x 10meters long for the 59 caddy and the 52dodge custom.there will be a 50s style milk bar in one corner and display case's along the sides to put all our model cars in,I have them going back to the early 60s and it will be the first time in 34 years off marrage that they will be all on display all together.We have a lot of hotrod posters and photos from our trip to the states and the good old American flag and nz flag to hang up together.The rest of the bottom will be 1/ bedroom, bathroom,toilet,kitchen dining room and lounge.The upstairs will have 2 guest bedrooms,another toilet,bathroom and a big main bedroom,5x6 meters with a ranch slider onto a3x6 meter deck which you will see the mountain out the back and the sea out the front.
All the interior walls will be wooden frames and jibboard (sheetrock to you Americans )and painted finish which my wife and myself will do.Heating will be a log fire with a ******* to heat the water plus solar water heating to.There is no under floor heating here as we don't need it here.We are tough down here. There won't be a workshop in the building as I have another garage close by. which will be my worksop.It is 6x9 meters but one day it will be extended to house a hoist.

Greetings, great plan and build you have. Can't wait to see her all full of your toys. Great that you can get them all out and on display to enjoy. How far are you from the water? Is there a rocky shore or beach? Good fishing?

If you google new zealand you will see that we live in a provence (state ) of taranaki and the main city is new plymouth which has a coast all around the western side.Yes the fishing is fantasic but I don't go fishing I spend my spare time on my hotrods and now the building.Or cruising the roads.We live about 8 miles from the coast and it takes us 19 min's to get into town.

That may be true but Shire / City Councils would not allow you to live in it here like you will be doing. It would have to be either a Home or a Workshop and not both as one.

All we are building is a home with a large garage, we have another garage on the property that will be my workshop.The only difference is our's is in the style of a barn.

Good to see another kiwi build on here! I'm from Palmy mate, living in Canada at the moment. I'm actually sending a '07 2500HD Silverado home to be used to tow my parents new boat, have you any idea what it would set me back to convert it to RHD?

I'm not keen on doing it, but would be interested. Its going to be registered under the whole "own it for 90 days overseas and you can keep it LHD, but can't sell it for 5 years" rule.

How did I miss this one??? Nice build naki kid. I noticed that the roll up doors are not insulated, is there a plan to keep the cold weather out?

Also, what is the difference between the normal tan colored lumber and the lumber with the pink/red tint?

Hey Naki kid, this looks great! Loving how it's coming along, having just read the thread today lol and having been to Nw Plymouth a few times and Stratford lots (volleyball masters FTW!), the 'Naki is a nice place to be!

Stuntmonkey, if you google "chevrolet "rhd conversion" site:.nz", you'll only get 20 or so hits- but since Naki kid has a few of them, he'll know a bit more than I! lol

I would say it has to be a clean water reservoir, maybe well pumped or river water, as they may have no piped water there.

Couldn't speak for the Taranaki area, but many councils are stipulating that new properties be built with water storage tanks... while we don't have problems anywhere near the scale of Australia, we're figuring that it's better to sort it now rather than later!

Could also be rainwater storage, using the runoff from the roofs...

That's a good sized tank though 'Naki kid, is that a spare supply or are you using mains water too?

It is a rain water tank made from plastic or more commonly called (in Australia) a poly tank. Very popular in the Southern Hemishpere to collect rain water from the roof.

Interesting the biggest I've ever seen.

I had a feeling that was the case, but couldn't find it in any of your other pictures. Did you bury it? I've toyed with the idea for my barn. At one time I found a good write-up on the net by a guy that took one, very similar to yours, put it on a short tower and covered it to look like an old rail road water tower. The only problem he had was the need to put a heating element in it during the winter to keep the water from freezing.

It is not mine and you will have to ask Nakikid more as to what he has done with it. All I offered you was the answer to what it is and you can get them much bigger than that one. I have two smaller ones on my house one on another garage for emergencys (like fires) and to wash the cars and two bigger ones on my big shed that supply the property with water.

Water here is a valuable commodity as many places have water restrictions for useage during the Summer or as it has been here even very dry in our Winters. Nakikid is in New Zealand so his reasons to have a rain water tank may be very different to mine. Most sit on the ground as they are easier to use that way. I have never heard of a frozen rain water tank here. Water will freeze in above ground pipes.

Thank you all for the interest in our home.We have been busy working on the place and have been living in it for the last 6 months and the stupid computer thing decided it had had enough so we have been with out one since living here,so will post more photos soon.The water tank is a 30'000 liter one and it is for the house as we are not on town supply and we have another 25'000 liter one as a reserve coming of the other shed or workshop.We also have solar water heating plus a ******* on the fire place so we dont have to use the power supply.So more photos soon,thanks Ray.

A update to what we have been doing lately.We built some cabinets for the models and cupboards under them for the hotrod mag collection but I have to still build more,and I painted the door between the 2 garages still got to put TELEPHONE on the top yet.now the photos.

I live 'bout 10 k's from Inglewood just on the national park boundry, and i'm a car painter but do a LOT of airbrushing work.

Small world alright.No we live 4.5 k up alfred road if you have another look our barn is cream.been airbrushing on and of for years.call up sometime.Thanks for the reply.Ray.
