Sorry about your latest snowstorm; we hit 100F for the first time this year yesterday
I've thought about it and I think I'd rather have some snow in April than 100F in April !!Sorry about your latest snowstorm; we hit 100F for the first time this year yesterday![]()
We've evened out the sheds and now have three red ones and three green ones. It will make seating arrangements in the sheds easier and they all have a buddy now

I keep telling that to Mama Bear and she fails to understand. I just tell her that I'm gathering for an auction one dayNice work!
You can never have too many tractors.

Just need to convince her that every implement needs it’s own tractor. It’s a time and labor savings plan....Yep, that’s the ticket....![]()
5510 looks nice, those suitcase weights still bring good money?
I get to have fun with my retirement account everyday on the farm. Not many people can say that !!ain't that the truth.
I'll have to take some closer pictures sometime. It is definitely a looks good from 30' kind of deal but it runs out well and seems to do what a tractor does just fine. Time will tell !!Nice for a JD, although you'll be bashing those weights into everything with the longer tractor.
I thought about adding up how many implements we have but then I realized I can't even count how many tractors we have so it seemed pointless. There are four green tractors and three red ones in the shed. Not sure which Deere I forgot about but seems I forgot oneJust need to convince her that every implement needs it’s own tractor. Andy I wish my wife shared the thought path yours does. I'd have sheds full of tractors !!!35 years ago I told my wife I needed a tractor for each implement. Of course it's actually true for hay equipment. I had about ten tractors at the time. One day a few years later she was looking out the window and observed "you need more implements".
I like cowboy boots, and all I wore for many years. When I had 28 tractors I was cleaning out my closet and counted eleven pair of boots. I told her something was wrong, I had more tractors than individual boots. She suggested I buy more boots.

From my findings that is spot on. About a dollar a pound. So's I got about $500 of weights with my tractor which makes it an even better deal. Add the 3pt quick hitch in the mix and that makes it even sweeter yet !!Bout a dollar a pound Andy.

I went with what I felt at the time. Maybe I'll just get him a book to help out when I can't hold his hand."Well today I ran across some work he did a few weeks back and I think I'm gonna beat him with a dead chicken when I see him again."
Just where are you going to find a dead chicken?
Mine would tell me I need more feet. When I had 28 tractors I was cleaning out my closet and counted eleven pair of boots. I told her something was wrong, I had more tractors than individual boots. She suggested I buy more boots.

No kidding. I'm excited the kiddos are getting bigger and are able to do more things but at the same time, they're getting bigger and before I know it they'll be off to college and beyondBoy, he's getting big.

All things considered they make me smile. It's a bit taxing on the ol' nerves when they come out with me because I need to keep an eye out for them but it's still a lot of fun !!JBL: I know it's hard to involve the kids in your chores, but dang the pictures are cute and i'm sure they make you smile more than not. more DAD OF THE YEAR POINTS that is for certain!!
great scores at the auction. one thing that might be driving up the costs of the tractor weights is some guys buy and use them in their home gyms cause they like the handles.
great pic of dad driving that huge rig through your town!!
keep up the great work and looks like maybe you are getting a bit of spring weather now so congrats.

It's a 42' wide with 5/8" thick drums and weighs in around 24,000lbs. That'd make a heck of a lawn roller !!Love that lawn roller.... Could sure use that here in TN to push those rocks back down ....

Oh boy if we could figure out how to get people to pay us to work on the farm we'd feel like we hit the jackpot. The plan for this year is to plant a pumpkin patch and see if we can't peddle them on innocent passerby'sJBL: great progress and you and your dad (and mom) are busy as per usual. you might be on to something mentioning having the city people come work on the farm even if only pulling rocks out of the field cause you can't buy that sort of exercise and with a HOW TO RUN AND WORK ON A FARM week (or weekend) they might even pay you work and learn.
a good excuse to build another building (and pay for a new and bigger house for your family) and maybe hire some of the old retired farmers that would love to share their knowledge with people willing to listen.
moving the **** around is a big job and looks like you and dad move it quickly.
very happy to see the snow and cold weather are behind you for another couple seasons so best of luck with the weather with this years crops.
cheers
We've talked about a semi a number of times but we don't know how practical it is. Sounds silly but we can haul more corn in a day with the tractor and wagons than we could with a semi and grain trailer. Dad loads the wagons light, I usually fill 'em all the way and haul 1,250-1,300bu with them. A semi loaded legally around here can haul 880-950bu and it takes the same time to load and unload. There isn't much to be gained in trip time when the elevator is only 5 miles away.1000 bushels with the 2 gravity wagons - any thought to add a semi to the fleet? Or are you just hauling locally a few times a year?

No kidding. Mom is always there doing the most important stuff in the background. My mother and my wife are involved more than they know. They're there supporting us and keeping us sane !!JBL: Give mom a hug from us and a big thank you for taking the time to help with pictures. Can't every forget or minimize how much a spouse is part of a farm life. I'll hoist a big glass of ice tea in her honor.
I would get a semi with a wet kit so I could use an end dump to haul chicken manure to the fields it'll be spread on as well. By the time all is said and done what it would cost in money wouldn't pay out for us in convenience and time saved. That's not to say it'll never happen but it won't be any time soon.Single purpose semi tractor, trailer, license, insurance to haul 5 miles, that's not going to compute. And every time you want to use it, the batteries will be down and air leaks.
Another +1 for wagons. No legal weight limits. Also, we have no bridges to worry about here. I've never heard of anyone getting nabbed in a tractor for any sort of infraction up here.Wife's Bil farms in central Illinois and runs a semi, and a dually with a triple axle gooseneck. Typical farmer, it's full when it's full 1000 bu on semi, 535 bu on gooseneck Overloaded LOL
State of Illinois was nice enough to waive gross weight during harvest .... didn't waive axle restrictions. Bunch of farmers got nailed being overweight on axle until the word got out. They got wagons for being overweight on bridges because of short wheelbase.

I'm quite sure the DOT up here will cut some slack for semis coming out of fields as there is no great way to weigh them but I don't know how much.
It's a crappy deal when the **** spreader takes a **** on itself. The worst part though is washing it all before you dive in to see what the problem is. Working on manure equipment is a crappy deal, no way around it, only one nasty way though itSorry your manure spreader threw ****.
Wait, isn't that what it's for?

We load into wagons so no need for us. I have a few farmer buddies that run way more land than us that have scales on their carts. They have the amazing ability of knowing exactly what is in each truck. A lot of teh cart scales let you keep track of every pound of grain that goes into and out of the cart so it gives you the ability of checking the cart scales with the scales at the point of sale. You guys don't use grain carts with scales from the field?
Back when I drove the supplies truck for Leedstone I had the fortune of getting weighed on the side of the road a handful of times. Only got a ticket once though. Having "Dangerous" and "Corrosive" placards on the rig made us a big target in the area.Sometimes they pull out their portable scales!
Big thanks to your mom.![]()

We've talked about the corn maze a few times. It may happen at some point in time out here !!JBL: some of the big farms around here grow and sell the pumpkins and also have an acre or two of corn where they cut a maze or labyrinth for the kids and some of the parents to enjoy. CORN MAZES are somewhat popular around here. instead of using a field of corn some small farms use bales of hay to make a MAZE.
got any room for a huge pond for a U FISH that maybe LEO can work and pay his college tuition from the profits? not to mention some fresh fish for dinner now and then to mix it up with chicken and beef?
cheers and hope you had a great weekend!!
Oh boy not yetOooh, a Quadtrack?![]()
