I have used and owned several band saws over the years, (wellsaw, johnson, shop fox, ridgid) and as far as versatility, this style has been the easiest for cutting miters. It isn't the most robust but, it has done everything I have needed it to do.
I like the looks of that saw. I think I'd like one with more capacity but that one sure looks like it'd do most of what I need .....

I made a 45* insert for my 4 X 6 Band saw. No fidly adjustments reaquired.
Yup. That is a fantastic idea !!! One could make a few inserts for 45*, 22.5* and whatever is needed. That gives me a few ideas .....

The inside, other that where the office/bathroom area will be, is lined out.

They did some interesting trim work around the garage doors and I'm not sure what's going on totally but I'm sure it'll all turn out nice.
50202449657_be7fd20b52_c.jpg

I had them put 3/4" plastic trim around the windows. Seems like it should last forever and be easy to clean.

Coming along nicely, the 2049 shop is BIG. But then again you play with big toys so they need all that space. :bounce:

There are two distinct time periods in all GJ members lives ... BGJ and AGJ (Before GJ and After GJ). BGJ I thought it'd be nice to have a 24'x32'x12' space to work in .... AGJ I'm convinced I need an 80'x160'x22' space to work in. The bank put the kibosh on the AGJ plans so we ended up with a moderate sized 54'x72'18' space. It'll work :bounce:

After the tile plow is dropped in the start hole it was a PITA to get the tile down the boot so I welded some steps onto the back of the boot. I think it's a good start but may need a few more. We shall see.
50203804777_990ee70600_c.jpg

The front bracket is pretty much done. We added a hook on each side to make it easier to stow the chain when it's not needed.
50203001518_ec38ebe85b_c.jpg

The front chain goes to the middle of the tractor to the middle bracket. This slides on the hitch tube and has a 1-3/8" clevis on each end each rated at 17t with a safety factor of 6. I don't think they will be the weak point in any part of this system :bounce:
50203537841_7b83af9629_c.jpg

A doubled up 3/8" chain goes back to the tile plow ....
50203001808_7e50ca0388_c.jpg

..... and hooks to a 2" pin that is built into the plow hitch. We should be all set for whatever is thrown our way now :rocker:

I'm thinking the captain in the tractor seat doesn't need steps on the back of the plow :) LOL

Next step, forget the tractor and get a D9 :)

Pretty sure I'll be the pilot of this rig. Dad "says" he doesn't want to learn it because there are too many buttons and it's a young mans game. We're throwing around getting a power feeder for the tile plow to help with starts but at close to $2k we're going to try scrap metal steps on the boots first.

The neighbor I purchased the tiling stuff with has a Deere 750 dozer and if it had the necessary hydraulic hookups we'd probably just use that. It's also a 24v system with no cab or anything to keep the electronics dry so there's that. Ultimately it's easier to use it as a tow rig if needed I guess.

A nice shape much newer Deere 750K with a cab and the other proper stuff is around $100k so this older 750 is going to be around for a while !!

So the rig under the tractor will allow the pull from the assist dozer to pull on the plow instead of trying to pull the tractor into 2 pieces?

Your shop is going to be so nice!
I like the way the inside of your shop came out with the white metal. I have white metal on the ceiling and then down for about 8 feet on the top of the walls in my shop. Are you going with LED lights?

That is exactly the idea. The rig in the front of the tractor will keep the chain from going under the tires if the assist tractor goes off track and the bracket under that slides on the main drawbar tube will do the same. Both need to be built well enough to drag the entire works sideways and I think they are. We shall see soon :dunno:

We talked about a ton of different things with the walls and decided we can put plywood or whatever else over the tin in the areas we want it instead of putting it all over on the bottom 8'.

If I remember correctly I ran wire for 3 rows of lights with 5 lights in each row. They'll be 4' LED lights that my electrician is going to provide. I think they are 130w 2'x4' lights if I remember correctly. There will also be two above the back corner where the main fab area is to provide a little extra jolt of brightness.

He does that too I think. All the new construction dairy barns up here use tons and tons of the stuff for trim and wall coverings in wet areas. It looks nice, cleans well and lasts forever. It's quite durable as well.

It's a Grade 100 1/2" chain up front and a transport 3'8" chain in the rear. Should be heavy enough but I'd like to get some 5/8" Grade 100 Chain for the whole works sometime.

Lol. I think the factory tow cable kits that are available on the big green and big red tractors are actually a 1-1/4" cable so a 1" cable would be just big enough to pull out a pedal tractor :lol_hitti

Saturday evening I had the privilege of playing music for a very close friend out on their farm for their wedding. We spent many many days and nights camping together back in the day whilst working on earning our Eagle Scout ranks in Boy Scouts. We played until well into the wee hours of the night and we had a fantastic time.
50208512626_1899539cc5_c.jpg

This morning Dad and I unloaded the tables and drill press I bought at an online auction last week. His S185 just barely lifted the smaller table off by itself.
50207976238_8fd26bbcc4_c.jpg

Well over a foot longer and an inch thicker his skiddy wouldn't even lift the larger table off the floor of the trailer :wtf:
50208500051_85225252d1_c.jpg

Both skid loaders lifted it off no problem and Dad was able to barely carry it into the shed with his S185. I don't know what it weighs but it's heavy !!!

Haha. Mama Bear actually has a keen sense of "what goes where" the first time. These tables will go where they will go and that will be that.

Now, when the new house gets built I've already been told I have almost no say in the "what goes where" and I think I'm fine with that. I need a space to sleep and a 12pk sized spot in the fridge to keep me happy and that's it :bounce:

I don't tell her how to clean, she doesn't tell me how to mow/clear snow.

The neighbor still had a roll of our tile so we went to get it with the skid loader trailer. I had to back the trailer into the ditch because Dad's Bobcat wouldn't drive up the ramps. Too tippy.
50219170461_e557f1b7f6_c.jpg

We marked a few lines out in a quite rocky field before putting tile in so any rocks would get pulled out before we were actually tiling. Good thing too as we found a couple pretty sized ones !!
50218515158_be5bd05158_c.jpg

The first run by Dad's place. Many more to come here.
50218515833_64ae017a29_c.jpg

It was just Pops and I so he ran the pipe out and then came and helped guide it in.
50218516658_4de6217637_c.jpg

Off to the neighbors place to help put a floor on a trailer.
50219391642_01811a7926_c.jpg

The first boards are on. This is going to take a while :dunno:
50219392202_8ae2dd28a1_c.jpg

Maybe not !! It's all on and ready to go !!
50219392932_660ecbbf7f_c.jpg

The dozer needed to be moved and this trailer is just the one to do it. Rated at 40,000lbs it handled it with ease and the 9300 hardly knew it was back there.
50218519523_09f506f0e0_c.jpg

Off it comes in the next field we are going to tile.
50219394802_632a097b47_c.jpg

I carved out a 3' deep trench to drive the tractor and plow through so we could get down to the dept we needed to get through the hill.
50219395707_9d3b26050b_c.jpg

It was a doozy of a trench and took 3ish hours to carve out. It worked really well !!!
50218522203_9bb733710e_c.jpg

I pre-ripped it to make sure I could pull it down 6'.
50218523048_0d479887a5_c.jpg

A couple big rocks came rolling out of the trench. This one barely fit in the rock bucket !!
50219179731_679f766c29_c.jpg

Let er' rip !!!
50219387877_7bc8aaa8cf_c.jpg

Wow, shop is going along nicely. Lots of new activity.
The office/bathroom/mezzanine area got framed up today. I don't have any pictures because I've been sicker than a dog. I think I had some bacon that was in the fridge too long this morning for breakfast :dunno:

Buncha tiling fiends up there in the nortlands I say.
We got about 1,200' of 6" tile in yesterday and felt pretty good about it. We also got most of the equipment up there yesterday, that took a while. There is another semi of tile coming with 19,200' of 4" on it yet. I think we will end up using it all up here. If not the neighbor can use it this fall on his fields.

We've decided to turn an old dry fertilizer wagon into the tile cart fittings/boots/parts and pieces trailer.
50220226756_e676709ac5_c.jpg

It's not 100% done yet as it needs a couple totes put on it to hold fittings and such but it'll work for now.

Thank's for the tip !! I think I've settled on either a new Grizzly G0561 or an Ellis 1800. Obviously some very MAJOR differences but for now the checkbook is locked up tight on bandsaws. I think I need to see how many $$$$$$ I'll have in this shop before I go just too crazy with tools inside it .....

I kind of thought this was funny. A $7,000 GPS receiver is being held on by a $1.29 bundge cord ..... It has wicked crazy strong magnets to hold it down but it rattles around a bit so on goes the bundge !!!
50224378792_3d9888225d_c.jpg

More tile plow fun !! This is another 6" main line run and it is quite squashy around the start areas so we'll use the dozer to at least get moving.
50224155141_0e3c091692_c.jpg

Away we go !!!

Lol. You are not wrong, it is a Case IH Steiger :bounce:

Case IH purchased the Steiger company in 1986 and produced both red and green tractors until 1990. I think the Steiger name was absent on the tractors until the 9300 series of 4wds in the late 1990's.

Yesterday morning started off by doing some crop scouting. We went to look at a few fields of Golden Harvest corn that someone had questions on. "What are these goofy looking stripes on the leaves all about ?!?!" Well that would be a Nitrogen deficiency. The corn is asking for more Nitrogen than the soil can supply so it starts to cannibalize itself to keep the growth of the cob going along as fast as it can. This particular field did not receive any late season Nitrogen because the farmer thought it was going to be dry and he wouldn't see the results of the application anyway.
50227992538_dab5bf8de3_c.jpg

Around 3pm Dad and I decided to try to tile again. The field was wet and squashy but we managed to get at least a little done.
50228635651_814e49157d_c.jpg

We were hooking up the last run (the one above) and it was looking a little ominous to the West ....
50228855742_fffa378d6a_c.jpg

Towards the end of the run it started to dump buckets of rain on us !! I was nice and dry but Dad may have gotten "a few" drops on himself on the dozer.
50228857082_0a3d184366_c.jpg

I think I'm going to name the tile plow "The Honeybadger" because it didn't seem to give a f*** that it was downpouring.
50227993593_84c89621a7_c.jpg

Well I can cross tiling in a Tornado Warning off of my bucket list :lol_hitti
50228855642_91503024c5_c.jpg

Dad left the drivers window open in the farm truck. This picture was after he dumped the water out of the cup holders. Good grief it is wet in there !!!

With all the little people traffic we figured a nice double railing on the steps and landing was a smart idea :dunno:
50230830006_e3c21651fa_c.jpg

It turned out okay for being built from scrap materials. Dad and I also got the mechanical room covered with 1/2" treated plywood. I'm hoping the HVAC guys and electricians can get here sometime this coming week or the following week to start doing the important stuff :bounce:
50231053192_1f8e96ef84_c.jpg

Don't mind the one tall one in the midst of the rest. It's a scrap just sitting there :)
50231053652_ca5d0b95ba_c.jpg

Plumbing and HVAC walls look decent Things turned out nicely I think !!
50231053812_d95efa2a66_c.jpg

The old hayshed needs to be down before the end of the month to stay on track with "the master plan" so today Dad and I tore on the hayshed for a while.
50230829511_5212d98bb9_c.jpg

Both lean-to's are off, one is cut up, half the roof is off and all the ridge cap is off. I'm hoping we can get the rest of the roof off and the structure on the ground tomorrow !!

Woulda been neat to use old red barn siding for the walls in the mechanical room. you might wanna consider painting the plywood in there now before they start putting stuff up if you plan to paint it.

With all the old crappy buildings we had here not much of it was worth saving for neat stuff like that. I plan to put the tin from the hay shed roof on the ceiling of the office. Maybe more somewhere else, don't know yet.

The plywood in the mechanical room will stay unpainted. I've never had great luck painting treated plywood and having it turn out nice. In the bathroom I think we'll put fiberglass on the plywood to "waterproof" it all.
