Ya know .... this little jig saw did really really well !!!!
That poor jigsaw is moaning "no more diamond plate" !

Walter the truck's rear end is looking good.

I got this for myself for Christmas and finally got around to using it.

I'm sure you'll be really glad you got that sharpener.
I have a similar one, and I don't know why I waited so long to get it.

Question, When do you or your Dad spread the Manure and Chicken litter on the fields? Have you got dealers (Suppliers) near you that will let you use equipment and do a review of that piece of equipment? I watch a couple shows on U-Tube that farmer use the dealers equipment and review said equipment (one was a vertical manure spreader- Very Big in SD).

You should tell your JD dealer that they missed topping up the fuel tank when they did their PDI. :lol_hitti

Flatbed is looking good! But with the back closed in like that are you not worried about road salt sitting on top of the steel tube pieces and rotting it out?
I left in the neighborhood of 3/8" vertically and I dunno how much horizontally for stuff to fly through as needed ....

We stockpile the manure in the summer and winter and spread in the spring and fall before we do tillage. We try to spread the manure and work it in as soon as possible to reduce the smell and keep as much of the nutrients from vanishing into thin air as possible.

Our operation isn't large enough to attract anyone to let us use stuff just to review it. We use an Artex SB600 to spread all our manure. It works well and does a very nice job !!

The YouTube farmers that are getting to use free stuff have hundreds of thousands of subscribers and it's a legit way for the manufactures to get their equipment in front of people. I enjoy watching them as well !!

Time to put the extension on Walter !! I welded a little tab deal inside the rear tubing to give it a little extra strength. This ended up causing issues ......
52711152715_7cd2ac7806_b.jpg

Younger Mike cut the crossmembers a little too short and thought, "Meh ... Older Mike will figure it out". Hmmm. Well older Mike has a port-a-power so yeah. It worked out :lol_hitti
52710995599_c715a817e5_b.jpg

Close enough for a town this size !!!
52710995729_9b6cf0096e_b.jpg

The other side took some persuasion from a come-along as well as the port-a-power.
52710995914_3ee169d6e5_b.jpg

Time out to play outside !!!
52710996014_9d1107eec9_b.jpg

Final load of seed corn arrived in a snow storm. Great timing :lol_hitti
52710214347_655f9de64c_b.jpg

Since I'm "unemployed" I have been making crock pot meals in the shop on days I work in there. Saves time in the evening and I love me some crock pot chicken
52710214497_9519d8b24e_b.jpg

Everything is finally to be weldered up !!!
52711152425_36d5f9b6ae_b.jpg

Let's see if we can't make a TIG welder out of a MIG welder ......
52711152585_8d53702583_b.jpg

I figured out what to do with the tube ends on the flatbed frame. It took a crazy amount of time to make these look correct .....
52710737406_0ac1dcc930_b.jpg

I got all the various wires put sort of in place. I don't have an after it's closed picture but I make it look nicer and sealed it all up. The three trailer connections are in the lower box and the flatbed/bumper lights are in the top box. It all worked the first time I tested it as well !!!
52711214713_fe9edea485_b.jpg

Whoa .... Red ?!?!?!?
52710996629_38057e18d5_b.jpg

The weatherman said it was going to snow so I brought the wood into the hayshed to keep it from getting a foot of white **** on top of it.
52710215037_61e97357da_b.jpg

This picture doesn't do any part of this justice BUT there was a wind with this snow like nothing I've seen before here. It was blizzardy and gross.
52711154065_a118305de5_b.jpg

The stove looks like Davey Jones :lol_hitti
52711154215_73415d575d_b.jpg

This little drift was 4' deep and 100' long and right on top of my driveway. I spent 7hrs total moving snow around :willy_nil
52711154295_db384df7b5_b.jpg

Even the steer barn needed to be plowed out !!!
52710997304_8d26f720a1_b.jpg

This was the result of feeding a piece of 1/4" 316SS rod into the weld puddle ..... it worked surprisingly well !!!
52711215938_8a128e219c_b.jpg

Ya know it ain't purrdy but it'll work .....
52711155020_7dd2752464_b.jpg

A little grinding and a THICK coat of bed liner and you'll never see these welds .... whew .... good deal !!

I keep searching the home depot web site but cannot locate the Ryobi Port a Power! Where did you find it?:ROFLMAO:
I had to look at the picture a few times and then it hit me like a brick :lol_hitti

I you look closely that is a rare Ryobi Brushless spot light .... it's clearly labeled "Brushless" on the side with a sharpie ....

Walter is looking good!

Also you can keep that white stuff.....
At least 39 times now I've looked at something on the truck and said "Boy that'd be nice if it was 'this way' instead" and while pondering on how to do it I feel like I'm standing on the edge of the rabbit hole looking in ...... at first I climbed in and it was nice but then I tripped and am now comtemplating paint the hood/cab :willy_nil

We're forecast to get around 12" more of that white **** before Sunday. I am more than ready to be done with winter !! I want to drive my new tractor and do tillage and plant corn and go tiling and drive Walter and go outside and have the wind NOT hurt my face and finally flip the breaker to turn the pumps off on that damn wood stove. I'm going to have to learn to be a damn beaver I think. My estimates say it's eaten 22-25 cord of wood so far this year !!! SO FAR .... winter will be here for another 3 weeks for sure yet :puke:

Was watching Nat'l Lampoons Vacation last night could not help but think of Aunt Edna riding the chair on Walter!
Er'ma'gawsh ..... I have an Aunt Edna !!!! I wonder if I could convince her to go for a ride on the chair ......... hmmmmm .........

Miss Alyssa helped mock up some patterns for the side kilts for Walter.
52737022551_422b099f25_b.jpg

She cut them out with the precision of an 8yr old with possible OCD. She got pissy when she got off the line in one spot and I giggled. Well, she got pissy when I giggled because she apparently couldn't understand why it was funny :lol_hitti
52737276114_20af61dfc6_b.jpg

Meh. At this point I was undecided if they were a good idea or not.
52736498322_f377d31a6d_b.jpg

The leader of the little people squad was in the chair pondering life decisions while I ground down spots to weld on some D-Rings. It must be tough being 10. She couldn't decide if she wanted to have pizza bites or an actual pizza for lunch. We ended up having hot dogs and french fries lol
52737503408_a63b5668a5_b.jpg

I tacked the first ring on freehand and it was all crooked and dumb so I made this super fancy positioning tool to get them all the same.
52737432470_286344a82d_b.jpg

6 little rings lined up in a row :lol2:
52737023166_4a8d6be74e_b.jpg

6 more on the other side !!!
52737277004_8b936e9a10_b.jpg

Time to figger out what to do for a cover over the gooseneck ball .... I wonder if this wood work .....
52737277319_791c04953c_b.jpg

I had my doubts if I'd like a metal cutting circ saw so instead of spending big bucks on a Milwaukee I cheaped out and got the Evolution model. Well well well. This thing is AMAZING !!! Holy four letter word this is a game changer ....
52737277484_e061dff5a9_b.jpg

That'll work. Now to get it back out as it weighs a touch over 30lbs :headscrat
52737024146_ab861ca8f9_b.jpg

I got it out and needed somewhere to keep it while a trailer was hooked up. I tried to fab up a nice hinge system so it could pull open towards the side of the truck while keeping the diamond plating facing up and no matter what I did I kept struggling to pull it up as it was so damn heavy. In the end I said screw it and build this gaudy thing instead ....
52737024336_d3d9011867_b.jpg

This is what I came up with to keep it from bounding up when I hit a bump and flying off the truck. The tabs in the front hook under some angle iron. The cover would have to bounce up an inch in the back before it'd come flying off so I think it'll work great !! If not I'll drill a couple holes and bolt it down I guess. We'll see.
52737504538_2fc1218a29_b.jpg

I shoved a DeWalt box in there to hide it as much as possible. This will actually work really well. Simple and effective.
52737434140_0f324c487e_b.jpg

Hello another 6" of snow. Or maybe this was the 16" snowfall .... or the most recent 5" snowfall. I've lost track :willy_nil
52737434400_3622786b62_b.jpg

Not sure the level of swearing that is tolerable on GJ but insert your favorite four letter word .... $#@% this snow stuff. I like the skiddy and blower combo but hate having to use it lol
52737434315_75ae0d0699_b.jpg

Back to Walter and his wannabe Tesla logo !!!
52737278524_83fc7d5b5c_b.jpg

That is my Pendleton stick. Pendleton helped come up with the idea so it gets an honorable mention :lol_hitti
52737025251_8a0cb8e4e3_b.jpg

It fits in the Tesla hole and is used to pop the cover out. After a bit of tweaking and bending it works flawlessly.
52737505453_f563699abe_b.jpg

Random but chronological .... We went to the Science Museum in the Twin Cities as a family and I thought this was neat. Figure I can make some of these for funnsies in my spare time.
52737025456_c7e27d1968_b.jpg

Now that the kilts are painted I like it quite a bit better !!! I bought some black Rustoleum truck bed paint to repaint all the black stuff behind the cab with. I also ordered some Raptor Liner in Battleship Grey to redo the flatbed top. And here's another rabbit hole .... the tool boxes look like they need to be black .... and the steps won't match once I repaint the bad .... argh ...
52737435295_bf00174906_b.jpg

Toolbox lids are off and all hardware is removed. What's the best way to prep this shiny SS to make sure the stuff sticks to it ? Wire wheel it, sand it or just prime it an go ??

I dunno about your tolerance for banging and clanging but with that many D rings I can hear it from here coming in and out of fields.

i'd consider putting rubber feet onto the frame to buffer the clanging:
ex:
That's a fantastic idea !! My banging clanging tolerance is almost zero so yeah. "Added to cart"

Thinking about that I think I'm going to bolt the gooseneck cover down as well. That sum'***** is going to rattle like crazy. A couple golden button heads will look nice up there as well.

these might work out there. easy to make it a slick top.

are you gona flip the ball over? maybe just dimple die a center spot for a long bolt to run down into the backside of the ball hitch? weld a nut in there. it'll tighten the hitch up from rattling and the cap plate.

I’d probably put on a good mask (no littles in the area during this either) and put a wire wheel or flapper on a 7.5 inch hand grinder (or sandblast?) to rough up your toolbox lids before priming and painting. I’m far from the painting expert cause I usually get to bare steel and keep putting on coats of boiled linseed oil.

Wow you’re burning a lot of wood but I know your propane/gas and or electric bills are not so terrible. Your vacation looked like fun and a great break from Minn E Soda winter.

Stay warm!!

I'll get ya a picture later but no, the ball is welded to a piece of 1-1/2"x8" steel that is gusseted and bolted quite securely to the frame of the truck.

I was thinking something along the lines of those 1/4 turn deals and there they are !! Either that or I'll drill and tap a pair of holes in the rear angle iron support under the cover and make sure to load them up with antisieze.

I had a pair of 150lb magnets with a rod between them at first and I ended up crawling under the truck and beating it out with a hammer because I couldn't pry it up on top. So magnets were out quite quickly, or at least the two I had on hand.

I honestly don't know how often I'm going to hook a trailer to it. Heck I don't even have my own flatbed yet and the cattle trailer is going to keep going on the F250 as it gets used every couple weeks to get calves and I don't think I'm going to use Walter in the winter. Avoid getting it all salty and ****** and dealing with either winter fuel or parking it in the shop all the time taking up space. I'll put it away when we're done with tillage and bring it out when I need to deliver seed corn after the roads are dry.

I was thinking a wire wheel to scuff it up a bit. The SS is nice and clean but yeah a mask is *usually* worn whenever I grind and do that kind of stuff. I find that I'm using the exhaust fan A LOT more now that I'm using the wood stove and not worrying about the heat running outside as much.

I really had no idea how much wood I'd go through but I guess now I know lol. Next heating season I don't plan to fire the stove until I have to or the water in it will freeze. I burnt 5-6 cord before that time this year and the stove was just idling along most of the time so it was a big waste really. I wanted to make sure it all worked and figured I may as well keep burning as long as it's already cooking.

So far this heating season we've burnt exactly zero gallons of propane in the shop/house. The chicken barn has gone through, I dunno ... Probably around 12,000gal so far in the same time frame lol

Sometimes I miss the cold. Went out to get the mail this afternoon and could barely walk barefoot on the driveway. It was in the 80s but the sun is awful close down here in Hell's Waiting Room.

Mike, those fasteners were invented by William Dzus to fasten airplane panels shortly before WWII. He set up a small manufacturing shop in Babylon, NY where I grew up and eventually opened a large facility in West Islip, the next town over. William died in 1964 and his son Theodore took over. His grandson, Ted Jr. was my age and was really into cars. Growing up he had the money to build some amazing cars that I would watch drive by with drool falling off my chin. He went on to run Dzus Fasteners in 1982 and marketed a whole line of fasteners for the auto racing world.

I suffer from the same thing with the camaro. I took a break from it cause it was just *********** deeper and deeper. Hopefully I will get a full weekend to finish a chainsaw rebuild and then I'll get back on the camaro with a strict list of what to do.

Weather man was call for snow this weekend but seems the forecast has changed. Seems like they can't make their mind up.

Well come on up and you can bring some back with you !!!

Well, you definitely drink good whiskey! That's my favorite brand

I painted the kilt pieces with some black Rust-Oleum front and back.
52750059208_d11aa8e4ff_b.jpg

The back bumper piece and the gooseneck ball cover got a coat of black as well.
52749561636_be6fb76568_b.jpg

A goodie bag came in the mail !!!
52749034032_0a2c47d852_b.jpg

More snow. Dumb. On a different note but still snow related .... I got a job again. Plowing snow for the local Township. Whoo hoo !!
52749034077_a1466bae35_b.jpg

Time for another load of wood to go to the boiler.
52749034202_feb712f0d9_b.jpg

What a helpful little dude !!
52749977000_368eba9b70_b.jpg

Hey look !! Bed linered tool box lids !!
52749034567_e16d814050_b.jpg

The side pieces got bed linered ....
52749811354_9f32919624_b.jpg

Same with the rear piece .....
52749811444_fb110a725f_b.jpg

Kind of neat stuff !!
52749977520_4f12f1f1e6_b.jpg

Not a great picture but looking out the window of the living room upstairs in the house it would seem that my snow piling place is full !!
52750060688_b84a9fc3a5_b.jpg

Bed linered pieces and covers back on the truck. It looks pretty decent this way.

Battleship Gray liner going on the flatbed today :lol2:
52749978160_3be62c8a8e_b.jpg

This is what I got done with 1 Quart. Good thing I bought 8 Quarts to make sure I had enough :lol_hitti
52749035722_39a606593d_b.jpg

Since I almost got done with the flatbed with 2 Quarts I figured I may as well do the steps as well. Make it all match. No reason to throw the rest of the Quart of bed liner away.
52749035867_a7c54f34ff_b.jpg

That does look pretty nicely if I do say so myself !!
52749036022_9763c894c1_b.jpg

You did a couple coats right? Been a minute since I read the label on the Rustoleom stuff, but I think most want a couple coats to build it up.

Bed, kilt, and steps are looking great with something other than rust on them. I noticed the black toolbox door as well. Much better.

Walter sure looks good!!
So the recently retired (from the man) picked up maybe his 5th job outside the farm. Man you wear so many hats but you probably need to so you can stay warm.

Keep on trucking, farming and such and stay warm!!

Since you have extra, do the back of the cab to protect it from cargo and rocks and who knows what 🤣
I think this stuff looks kickass and may just do the entire cab one day with a dark dark blue or possible even black. Not sure on color yet. Or a bright blue like the Chevy blue. Or even better .... That bright Chevy blue but toned down with some black so it looks smokey a bit .....

I get these intrusive thoughts and have to remind myself it's a 27yr old Freightliner FL70 and really is nothing special in the big world of things so stop it !! Just use it and quit spending money on it lol

Jeez a minute ? Your memory must be worse than mine !! I did primer, black spray paint and then the bed liner on the side pieces. They won't see too much abuse so I think one coat should be okay.

I really like the Battleship Gray!! Turnt out nicer than I thought. It went on really nicely and covered all the stuff under it very well with just one coat so I think that'll stay one coat as well.

Walter sure looks good!!

Old Man Walter is looking decent. Now it really needs to cab painted and it'll look like someone really spent too much money on it ..... I'll be into it for quite a bit more than I expected but that's how it goes I guess.

The full time maintenance dude for the township is having back surgery soon and needed someone to step in and be him so I said okay. He's my cousin so when family asks for help you help I guess. It's not even the township I live in either lol.

Plowing snow usually happens between 1am and 9am and I don't have much going on with those hours so I couldn't really say no because I was busy :lol_hitti

I think this stuff looks kickass and may just do the entire cab one day with a dark dark blue or possible even black. Not sure on color yet. Or a bright blue like the Chevy blue. Or even better .... That bright Chevy blue but toned down with some black so it looks smokey a bit .....

That would be sweet! My buddy down the road runs a custom off-road shop and he has a Lexus GX something or other SUV, lifted all decked out and it's 100% bed liner in a gray color. Looks really cool. I'll snag a picture next time I see him.

IF? you're going to use Walter to pull one of your big wagons, I would suggest you put some extra weight on Walter's rear end. Those big wagons, even with surge brakes, can push a truck around.

I volunteer to drive the semi :)

Yep, better braking but also pulling. It's always fun trying to get a 20mt loaded wagon rolling on a slight incline with none of that weight on the towing vehicle, especially if the wagon has sunk in a bit. :headshake

A couple concrete blocks usually does the trick.

Likely not going to pull loaded gravity boxes with it. We're looking at a 26' Wishek 862NT disk that weighs 24,000lbs and I'll have to put a couple totes of water over the rear end to bring that home safely I do believe.

I have a full snack drawer, bologna and cheese in the fridge and a futon upstairs. Come on up !!!

Our Brent 644's weigh in the 40,000lb each when full and I don't plan to pull them with Walter when full.

That being said ..... There is a dude (relative actually lol) that pulls a 500bu wagon behind a 1990 Chevy 2500. It's okay though as he LOADS the bed up with logs for weight. He's been hauling all his grain to town with that combo since the truck was new and hasn't had one issue that he'll admit to. Likely mechanical issues with the truck but nothing safety related. He'd tell a good story about it if something happened so I believe him. Not the smartest thing but you won't convince him otherwise lol

Anyone any good with photoshop ? I can't seem to get my Microsoft Paint skills on point enough to put this blue on the white cab stuffs ..... Maybe there is a better blue ... I dunno. I painted the bus Bud Light blue way back when and still think that looks nice !!

Glad I did the steps as well. They tie it in nicely.

*Almost* too much diamond plate. Not quite though. Gotta put the 7-way round plug back in it seems after looking at this picture ....

Now it just needs to warm up so the roads can dry off and I can start delivering seed and scratching this nice bed all to hell !!!

Walter surely looks to nice to hit the dirt (mud or snow) roads, but a few scratches and it's just another here to there machine like all the others I guess. can you attach a snow plow to the front and clear roads for your new job with Walter? too funny you had no excuses for not doing midnight snow removal (hee hee).

sorry i'm not the photo shop guy. I did have the digital camera with docking to laptop pretty well set in the late 1990's and Photobucket on Craigslist ads, but you need a young guy. i'm sure my techy neighbors that never come out of their homes have the skills though so i'll ask if i see them getting their million dollar 1099's in the mail.

cheers!!!

I was going to ask if you were going to install a front rack to keep stuff from hitting the cab, but then I realized that maybe that is your ultimate plan. If there's no front rack then sooner or later someone will hit the cab and then that will be your justification to paint the cab. :lol_hitti

The truck looks good though! You'll like that a lot better over a pickup.

If you rhino coated the chair black, it would compliment the bed!

looks good though👍
Again with the chair :lol_hitti

I should put it back up there once the liner cures lol

Yeah it's snowing again right now. Forecast to get 4-7" again. I'm ready for summer but then I'll be grumbling that it's too hot and how much mosquitoes **** lol. There are usually a few weeks spring and fall that MN is great. No mosquitoes, not humid and the air doesn't hurt your face when you go outside.

For what I have stuck into Walter he needs to pull his weight lol. I don't plan to use it over winter but I sure hope it'll need an oil change by fall lol

The township has two plow trucks with blades and wings and sanders and such so no need to get Walter all dressed up with a plow. The thought crossed my mind for plowing around here but I think I'd like a snow pusher/hyd angle blade for the skiddy first.

Million dollar 1099's sounds like a lot but it's really not when you consider you can make that and then some selling pictures of your feet online. Well, not my feet. No one cared about them so I'm out lol

Awesome job!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope the snow goes away for you soon!
Yeah no kidding. We always get antsy around here in the spring and being home full time I was antsy in January already lol

I definitely want a headache rack of some kind just not sure what yet so for now it stays open. It'll mostly be used to haul seed corn at this point so I'm not too worried about things flying forward.

Since it's a flatbed most everything I can think of to haul will be strapped down. A flatbed on a truck is like marrying a crazy hot woman, sure is fun but you're one bump away from losing it all :lol_hitti

I'm digging Walter's bed! Hopefully it stays nice for a little while.
We shall see how tough this bed liner stuff really is. It's going to make a few dozen trips delivering corn this spring and pallets are hard on stuff.

Had that Wok cooker out lately ?

I'm ashamed to say mine is buried in a snowbank

+1 for thr headache rack. It'll look good if you don't need it, and be there when you do. Handy to strap stuff to as well.

Definitely no plows on walter. Skiddy or even a tractor would be better.

I'm keeping my eyes open for an aluminum semi headache rack that I can cut up and put back there.

Something like this that I can cut up and make fit. Likely have to do make it not aluminum color though. That will be a summer or next winter project. The two square tubes coming up from the bed behind the cab will be the supports for it so all I have to do it fab something up and drop it on. It sounds so easy lol

I can plow a 6" snow with the S300 and snowblower and then bucket in around 4hrs so agreed, no need to plow with Walter. I want one of these or one like it for the skiddy !!
